LOL the NBA thread on FBGheys was applauding players for boycotting.  I went on and simply asked have we seen body cam footage or audio of police because in the video I saw the guy was clearly disobeying police and reached into his car.  I was told it didn't matter and that you can't shoot someone in the back 7 times.  I linked the video of the guy who disobeyed police and went in his car and got a gun and shot the two police officers.  I was called a racist by several posters and then was permanently banned by moderaters.

Congrats!  I need to step uo my game.

I look at fantasy the same way I look at horse racing. I’m betting on some animals with numbers and different color jerseys to do well on my behalf. Much like horse racing, I dgaf what they, like the horse, think.

But you don’t have to watch the games to win at fantasy football. All you need is FF knowledge and a good source of game stats. I did it in 2017.

But I know part of the entertainment is watching your horse run.

I love how the left still thinks their interpretation of events is the ONLY acceptable version and if you disagree, you are a racist nazi.  So wonderful to converse with them.

If I couldn’t draft and watch some games with my friends I don’t think I would. The game is a video game now and all this SJW stuff is so cringeworthy.

NFL will be next I’m afraid once the season begins.  They will feel too much pressure from all the other professional sports.  Jeesh I hope not...we shall see

I REALLY don't want to NOT watch football. But if they go all NBA I will.

I’m of the mind that some sort of statement will be made. I’ll suck it up for a week or two. After that, move on to do something meaningful on your time and get back to the game. Do all the political stuff you want during the week. Just leave me out if it on Sunday’s or I’m gonna start finding other things to do.

I was watching basketball, but I kept having to turn it off when the BLM stuff came on.  I have two toddlers running around that soak up info like a sponge.  I'm trying not to have to explain to them that Lebron James is full of shìt which would potentially put them on a path to racism.  Thankfully, I think they realized they were overdoing it because they really toned it down after the 1st week of sub-optimal ratings.

The NHL did this to appease Evander Kane, a black player. Of course, he’s been arrested for accosting a woman and he’s also being sued by a casino for walking out on 500k he owed. I love being lectured at by these people.

They can lie about their intentions, being woke or covid all they want, but the truth is, no one is interested.  Players don't like playing in front of nobody, and no one is watching.  The NFL claims they are going to start, but they will not play a single pre season game.  NBA, done.  MLB, hanging on by a thread.  It isn't political. No one cares.  It does show how quickly we can move on from something that completely dominates our culture.

With the Wings not playing, I've not tuned in to the NHL since they re-opened.

I only know of five players that hate America, one Dumba(ss) in Minnesota, two each in Vegas and Dallas. I'd not realized that San Jose and potentially other teams were infected as well.

Hard to believe that these players aren’t putting together that their actions are going to affect their bottom line. Especially the NFL. The salary cap is based on revenue. It will already take a hit with Covid,  no getting around that. This SJW stuff will only make it worse. I hope their agents are telling them what’s what. It may be the only time in the history salaries in sports will actually go down. Sure the big stars will get theirs, but the rest will fight for the scraps. Doesn’t sound very Marxist to me.

I wonder if the owners are having these conversations with players, union or the agents.

You would think. It doesn’t  appear that way. It’s not too complicated. Less revenue, less money in the pot. This is a far bigger hit for players with short careers or one shot at a good contract. Which is the majority of the NFL. All this for a few violent thugs.

I think the financial implications are why they're back playing.  That and no one really cared that they stopped.

TV contracts cover the players.  Owners make money off the gate and beer sales.  No point for owners to even entertain the idea of playing.  TV wants this, no one else does.

I thought the collective bargaining agreement gave the players and owners a 50/50 split of all revenue.  TV contracts would dominate the revenue.

Contracts  are signed with the expectation that the cap will increase. Even if it stagnates, players will lose out. Also, think about the players coming up on FA? Think J.  Clowney is liking what he’s seeing? He still doesn’t  have a team. Like I said, revenues are going down no matter. Even a slight decrease in viewership will have an affect. The current TV contracts don’t expire for 3 seasons. Unless they sign new ones, revenues can’t go up from what’s already been negotiated without a new deal. I think the networks will be waiting to see what happens.

The salary cap is almost directly in line with the TV contracts.  Regardless of how the CBA spells it out, it's the owners who take the hit when no fans are in the stands because they players are all under contract.

No. If you’re over the salary cap you have to cut players. If the cap gets lowered, and it already is, players lose out too.

FLORIDA -- NBPA Executive Director Michele Roberts and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released the following joint statement today:

“We had a candid, impassioned and productive conversation yesterday between NBA players, coaches and team governors regarding next steps to further our collective efforts and actions in support of social justice and racial equality.  Among others, the attendees included player and team representatives of all 13 teams in Orlando.  All parties agreed to resume NBA playoff games on Saturday, Aug. 29 with the understanding that the league together with the players will work to enact the following commitments:

1. The NBA and its players have agreed to immediately establish a social justice coalition, with representatives from players, coaches and governors, that will be focused on a broad range of issues, including increasing access to voting, promoting civic engagement, and advocating for meaningful police and criminal justice reform.

2. In every city where the league franchise owns and controls the arena property, team governors will continue to work with local elections officials to convert the facility into a voting location for the 2020 general election to allow for a safe in-person voting option for communities vulnerable to COVID.  If a deadline has passed, team governors will work with local elections officials to find another election-related use for the facility, including but not limited to voter registration and ballot receiving boards.

3. The league will work with the players and our network partners to create and include advertising spots in each NBA playoff game dedicated to promoting greater civic engagement in national and local elections and raising awareness around voter access and opportunity.

“These commitments follow months of close collaboration around designing a safe and healthy environment to restart the NBA season, providing a platform to promote social justice, as well as creating an NBA Foundation focused on economic empowerment in the Black community.

“We look forward to the resumption of the playoffs and continuing to work together -- in Orlando and in all NBA team markets -- to push for meaningful and sustainable change.”

Why do you say no, then agree with everything I said. :dunno:

I’m just glad someone posted about the game stoppages. I love sports but I don’t follow NBA or MLB or the focking women’s BB League, so I wouldn’t know they weren’t playing unless someone told me.

Fock em.

I noticed the Pistons weren't playing but didn't know why. Even if they were, I wouldn't care. Ask me how the Tigers are doing. I know they were 2-1 at one point and saw a headline that indicates their hotshot #1 overall pick, who I can't name but do recognize it if I see it, hasn't played this year. I made a point to record a list of Tiger kneelers if MLB gets their heads out of their asses and I need it in the future.
