Stimulus Checks for rich people

The latest plan by Biden is $1400 per person, $1400 per kid, for families making less than $150K.

So two well employed adults with 2 kids, who made $150K last year, will get a check for $5600.

Why are we giving able bodied people this kind of money when they don't even need it?  What a disgrace.

Also, you don't even have to be a citizen to get this.  And there is another plan in the works to send the same family $300/mo for the next year.

Why?

Wouldn't we be better off giving this money to people who actually need it?

Incentive for poor people to pop out kids.  The government will take care of them and Mama gets her nails did twice as often.

We have built in no incentives to work and make sound choices.

I didn't need any of the stimulus checks.  Luckily my wife and I have been healthy and haven't missed a day of work.  I actually made about 20k in overtime in 2020.  I used both checks to payoff my bass boat.

Depending on where you live, $150k with 2 kids isn’t necessarily “rich.” 

The idea isn’t that you need the cash. It’s that you’ll help keep businesses open and people employed by spending it. 

More likely people will pay off debt or out it in the bank. They’d be better off putting all that $ into ramping up the vaccine roll out.

Well if you can't live well off of $150K/year, then you're living outside your means, and it's your own damn fault.

I really hope so, but I doubt it.  I'm not against helping people that need it.  I just don't think it's wise to have taxpayers buy bass boats for dooshbags.

Being able to live off $150k and being “rich” are two different things. 

In theory buying a boat does help the economy. Somebody is building and selling the boat right? I just don’t think that kind of stimulus is very efficient. The fastest way to get the economy going is to get people vaccinated.

Definitely not what it was intended to do, I will agree with you there. 75k to me, seems too high. But, what if you made 75k in 2019 and haven't worked since March of 2020? It's not an easy decision for sure.

That is why I never bought a boat.  I bought a kayak instead, and while I have a lot of money invested in it, it's still thousands less than if I had a bass boat.  I know enough people who have boats that I can fish with so I don't need one.  It's better to know people with a boat than it is to own one.

People that dont make good money that live in low cost of living areas have made out on Covid.  They make more through unemployment and thr weekly out of work stimulus than they did at their low end jobs.  An old friend from HS has a goofy ex GF whom he has a kid with.  She apparently said she was scared of covid.  Hasnt worked since March (her choice) still gets unemployment plus whatever they get weekly.  Plus stimulus.  Plus whatever new they will give for children.  She has basically been on vaction for a year he said.  Driving all over the country and flaunting it on facebook.  

There are plenty of people who "need" it.  There are just as many scamming the system.

My wife and I don't make a lot of money but it's more than enough for what we need.  We've been lucky to not have been effected financially by COVID so we do need a stimulus checks.  It is nice to get that extra money though and it gets spent on goods that I wouldn't normally buy right now.  Instead of keeping my spending down it has increased and that's one of the purposes of the stimulus money.

The not working part is ridiculous but if they are out spending money then part of the stimulus plan is working.

Some industries have really benefitted from COVID in the last year.  The outdoor sporting goods market has been thriving.  People had more free time and money to spend so they spent it on camping, hunting, fishing, kayaking and hiking gear.

Yeah man.  Good setup totally what it is intended for.  Quitting your job because you are scared of covid.  Still getting unemployment.  Traveling the country (you know against the rules and obviously not scared of covid) renting beach houses and partying.  Going bungee jumping.  Yeah man we need everyone to do that and then we should be good as a country.

I made about15k more and my wife made about 2k more. Just because we worked the whole time and there was so much O.T. available from people not working. Our tax return and both stimulus's are still sittin there in our account.

Wtf? Yeah man she saved some Florida bars from going under.  The bungee jumping business should be good as well. 

So to stimulate the country any time from now on we should just print money hand it out and hope people spend it.  

People like this woman are making MORE than they did on their low end jobs.  It is incentive to quit and collect.  I understand that people's wages in big cities are not met through unemployment and bonus checks.

Agreed.  Title is misleading but I assume everyone agrees.  

Either way make do.  People during the great depression and world wars "made do". 

God forbid anyone changes their lifestyle when "hard times hit".  That would be asking too much from this generation of people.  A PS5 and all the take out you can order is a right of thr people.  

Most people I know have been qorking almost this whole time.  But I honest to God do not know anyone who is "struggling". Not saying there aren't people.  I just do not know any.

I think the whole stimulus plan has been poorly thought out and carried out.  There's not a whole lot we can do though, so, when I get that money I'm going to spend it and try to support other businesses.  I think everyone should be working now and not taking advantage of the system.  There's no need to twist my words just so you can argue.

This...also depends on whether you have kids and how that $150k is broken out.  $150k where both people work and then have to pay for daycare is a lot different than $150k from just one of them and the other stays at home.

I think I was reading though that you still could have gotten something the last rounds making up to $300k or so.  Now that’s probably rich.

The wife and I are just under the threshold and have not missed any work.  That being said, almost all of our stimulus checks have gone towards daycare for our two year old.  That sh!t is crazy expensive right now.
