Stimulus Checks for rich people

The wife and I are just under the threshold and have not missed any work.  That being said, almost all of our stimulus checks have gone towards daycare for our two year old.  That sh!t is crazy expensive right now.

Would you have had the cost for daycare regardless of the pandemic?

I oppose the stimulus almost completely, we should do an infrastructure package instead. Put the people to work instead of free money.

not as much.  My MIL was watching our daughter a few days a week.  She can't watch her now (2x cancer survivor) because she is afraid of catching Covid.  We've told her over and over that the spread of the virus through toddlers is basically non-existant.

That is why I never bought a boat.  I bought a kayak instead, and while I have a lot of money invested in it, it's still thousands less than if I had a bass boat.  I know enough people who have boats that I can fish with so I don't need one.  It's better to know people with a boat than it is to own one.

The true liberal mindset.  "I'll use what someone else has."

Jobs pay rent for a year or more! A one time stimulus package does not. If you are concerned about people paying rent then support the infrastructure package.

Although, what us peons think does not matter.

Tell that to the millions of landlords that haven't been paid and have no recourse. The stimulus should go directly to them

Pathetic is relying on other people to pay your way.

I don't rely on others to pay my way.  There are numerous reasons why it doesn't make sense for me to own a boat.  Just because I know people who own boats and I go fishing with them does not make me a liberal.  To even think that is incredibly ignorant.

Same reason I don't have a pool. The upkeep is ridiculous. Just use other people. Pee it in often

And what happens in 2 months, another stimulus, and 2 months after that?

The landlords are in trouble unless people get jobs. This stimulus does nothing except kick the can down the road and to cause inflation on used luxury goods, ie boats, rvs, cars.

It's costing us almost $500 million dollars for the national guard presence in D.C., despite the fact that they're not needed there.  The Dems don't care about wasting your money.

Yeah man.  Good setup totally what it is intended for.  Quitting your job because you are scared of covid.  Still getting unemployment.  Traveling the country (you know against the rules and obviously not scared of covid) renting beach houses and partying.  Going bungee jumping.  Yeah man we need everyone to do that and then we should be good as a country.

Are we sending money because people need it and are struggling? Or to stimulate the economy? Ive heard both be the case.  Liberals use the one which is convenient for the conversation.

This is buying votes. Plain and simple. They're programming the rabble like pavlovs dog... Hit the D button, get free sh!t.

No one in government cares about wasting our money.  That should be one thing everyone agrees on.

Did you guys miss my thread about this already? If you make over 50K you're not getting a check of any kind. It's for the working class, those that are underemployed and unemployed. Quit your complaining!

I love it how people who have a roof over their head, a warm home and food in their fridge with bills paid are mad. How utterly selfish not to realize many have been adversely affected.

What can you say to people with this line of thinking? As if those things were just handed to people. If you and your spouse are making 150 k nothing was handed to you. That’s a different class of people way further up the line that had things handed to them.

Lurch and I haven't received any stimulus money this whole time.

I am not complaining, as I would rather it go to someone else who needs it.  But at the same time, people NEED to get back to work. CA is still shut down for the majority of businesses, esp small businesses that will likely NEVER come back.

We CANNOT do this forever. We cannot tax people to death. I hate knowing that my taxes will be going up exponentially to pay for someone who literally REFUSES to work, but is fully capable. This angers me SO much. My taxes shouldn't go up to pay for your new iphone or streaming services because you refuse to get a focking job.

Your thread was wrong.

Nobody knows the limits yet, and they democrats have already talked about raising those limits, hence this discussion today.

There are people who need it.  There are probably just as many who are abusing the system.  Unemployment.  Rent forgiveness.  Bonus unemployment.  Stimulus checks.  Stimulus checks for having kids.  Many of the underemployed are making more from Covid than they would if they worked.

Not my problem if you choose to live in an expensive area on a 40k salary and chose to pop out 4 kids.

From what I read this morning, the $150k number was just where it starts getting phased out. It does not go to $0 until you are making $200k per year for a married family.  Silliness and definitely a lot of pandering.

I have multiple problems with all of this (and had it before):

1. We already have programs to address people who are unemployed. Fund those, but not to the point that you can make more to not work than to work.

2. Businesses that are shut down due to the pandemic need help and not just help to keep the doors open. They need help to evolve their business to better address the current landscape. It should not be in form of purely loans or purely handouts. Make it a combination of both, so that businesses are investing in evolving their businesses.

3. Those of us paying taxes don't have the money to keep funding all of these "stimulus" bills and bailouts. We don't have it. Sorry.

Where did you see that?  That certainly wasn't the case for the $600 check.

Might only be if they had a lot of kids (and probably wouldn't be much of a check) -

Or maybe we could just open the economy up........I'd love to see a compare and contrast of how people are doing economically in Florida compared to CA or NY.

I don’t know why government workers like teachers are getting anything. They haven’t missed a thing. Many of them saves money on childcare and no commute.

Maybe give it to those on unemployment and give an incentive to get off of unemployment as well? Here’s 5k when you go back to work.

5k for going back to work?  And how long do I have to keep the job?

That would be unemployment, I would be fine with extending unemployment and adding some money on top, although I would still prefer an infrastructure package instead.

Most people I know have been qorking almost this whole time.  But I honest to God do not know anyone who is "struggling". Not saying there aren't people.  I just do not know any.

Do you know anyone in the travel industry (hotels, etc)?    They have been "struggling" pretty bad in a lot of cases.   I would agree with the sentiment that the best thing for businesses is getting the vaccine to more people

Texas never closed down, but our economy was hit by the lack of oil demand.

I don’t know man. It’s just better than handing it out to everyone. It could be figured out.  Better doesn’t mean perfect.

People that work for a living should get more than people that don't. Let's reward the true hard working Americans.

Instead we reward every Tom, D1ck, Harry, and Jose that has there hand out.

We start people at $14 an hour, and guarantee 32 hours minimum. Have had help wanted signs up since the fall. People laugh at us. They get paid just as much to sit at home and play xbox.

The just plain ole random check to everybody is dumb, agreed.  The extra bump in unemployment if you are laid off due to Covid is not.

With that said, the gov't gives billions of dollars to foreign countries for all kinds of B.S.  They are spending a billion dollars to inform Americans bout a Covid Vaccine.  Huh?

I have little issue with the people getting tax monies they pay, back to them.  That's 99th on my list of issues with the the government.  At least it is money going back to the people and not corporations for foreign countries.

Well, I've been sitting at work since day 1, not 1 single day of telework for me. I didn't get a stimulus check nor am I getting a stimulus check and still I'm glad to help my fellow American in distress.

Heck, I'm surprised I don't have Covid-19 yet. If I've been out here all this time and I haven't been infected and I catch the bus and all. I agree, the world should open up.
