Luxury vehicle brands

Recommended Posts

If you were going to get one (or already have one you love) which luxury brand car would you be interested in?

Bought the wife a BMW X7 last Christmas.  She loves it.  Most comfortable ride I've ever had (the X7, not the wife).  Sufficient power.  Plenty of space. Lots of cool features.

I’ve thought about getting one recently but it’s tough to say. BMW seems to have some good ones that hit the right blend on cost and features, but I just don’t love the brand. Volvo might’ve been my choice several years ago but they don’t seem so great now. Friend of mine recently got a Porsche Cayenne and to be honest I was a little underwhelmed.

If I could afford it I’d buy a nice-ass Land Rover. Looked at leasing one but with little kids that’s never gonna work.

I have a Lexus ES350 which I love to drive but sucks on features, particularly a lack of a touch screen.  Lease is up this fall and I’m getting something else.  Depending on my health situation, if things are good, I’d consider the new Mustang Mach-E.  Or maybe an F-class truck with the generator, to go hiking some places we need 4W drive.

Depends on your priorities. My general thoughts:

luxury= Mercedes

performance= porsche

value= Audi

balance= bmw

i have been brand loyal to BMW for over 20 years.  They have been very reliable for me.  Great performance with enough comfort.

I currently have a convertible M3. We bought mrs an X3 3 years ago and it is a perfect family car for us

Not a single German brand, that's for sure. (aside from Porsche)
Overpriced, over engineered trash and the resale prices prove it.

There is lower end luxury and higher end.  I think Lexus is probably middle of the road, but for comfort and reliability it can't be beat.

What year M3 and how do you like it?  I have a Nissan GTR, which obviously isn't luxury, but from a performance perspective it could be cross-shopped with an M3/M4/M5.  When I bought the X7 for my wife, the dealer had a M5 competition on the showroom floor.  It crossed my mind to take it for a spin if it was still around in the spring.

I'd like to one day settle into a nice sedan like an Audi RS7 or something similar but, always been a truck guy. The features on trucks are getting so good that I may never switch though. Plus, never have to worry about resale with a truck.

How are you guys feeling about Audi? Never owned one but have been looking at potentially getting one in a few years after I pay my truck off. Want to have a truck for things like the dogs, boats, skis, etc and a car So can drive around to work and such

in 99 we purchased a 1999 328I.

We then got my wife a 93 318I.

in 2001, I traded my 328I (sedan) for a 2001 330CI (Coupe. I wanted a sportier car). this is the year we move to colorado.

We sold our 318 to my inlaws to get my wife a land rover (big mistake) because she thought she needed an SUV in the mountains. Hindsight, she agrees that she should have kept the 328.

She got rid of the Land rover and got an accord.  fine car. did its job.  When we had the kid, she sold the accord and got an Audi A6 wagon.  Worked well for us but became a money pit.

We moved back to SF in 11. The wagon did not work well in the city. She got herself a Subaru hatchback.

Worked well until we saw the writing on the wall with the subaru, and needed something bigger... leading to her X3

in 13 i traded my 330 for the M3.

It's FBO.  Went to AMS performance in Chicago for their Alpha 7 package about 6 months after I purchased it.  Power is incredible.  No shooting flames...I don't have a flex fuel set up.

in 13 I found an 05 up in Seattle with 40k on it.  I have an "imaginary friend" (from the huddle and FBG) who lives up there.  I found a shop that works on German cars.  He brought it over to have it inspected for me. No issues.  I negotiated a deal over the phone.  Flew up one way. signed paperwork. spent the night with my friend and treated he and his wife to a very nice dinner and drove home the next day. Still running great with about 133k on it now.

V6, but lighter than newer m3s.  I like the size and feel. very nimble. I have been thinking about other cars, but really like it and do not want to get rid of it.  Unfortunately, too much car to give to my daughter in a year

Both of these were Euro deliveries where I picked them up in Munich. I saved about 8% on the 328, and about 10% on the 330.

Edit:

when researching back then Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, Saab all had different discounts for picking it up at the factory.  Porsche made you pay for the privilege.

Audi now does them as well

eh.  I like them but their price tag is not far off from BMW, and I would rather have better performance and luxury features for the price difference

Drove em all. Most are a waste of money. SUV- Range/Land Rover Sedan- Lexus IS as good as any and you’ll save money. BMW is without a doubt the most overrated. But if you hit the lottery get a Rolls Phantom

I was recently shopping for a vehicle and the only luxury car I considered was the Genesis G70. I wanted a manual transmission and it is one of the few sedans that is available with the manual transmission.

They are also fairly reasonably priced, however I thought the resale on a manual luxury car would suck where as the resale on a manual WRX is much better.

Someday I would like a Porsche, but that is probably wishful thinking.

Why the manual, icy hills?  Many cars have the paddle shifters if you need low gear.  :dunno:

:(

"After carefully evaluating the changing BMW U.S. customer preferences towards U.S.-built X vehicles and the declining interest in the European Delivery Program, BMW has made the decision to bring the U.S. market European Delivery Program to a close in the Fall of 2020."

I may take the vehicle to Denver next winter on our ski trip, but that is not the reason. The majority of my cars were manuals before moving to Houston and I have not owned one in 8 years. I just wanted to drive another manual again. They are difficult to find. In a performance sedans the only options are BMW, Subaru, or Genesis.

I am still 90% sure I will get an F-150 as my next vehicle, but I did not want to special order one.

I have had the following in manuals:

Subaru Outback

Subaru Outback

Subaru Legacy Wagon

Nissan Sentra

Toyota Camry

Toyota Camry

Mazda Protege

I doubt Digby can drive a stick. Most millennials can’t.
