Pimpadeaux 2,404 Posted June 25, 2023 What has taken place in Russia in recent days is eerily similar to what took place in 1917, when the Russian military, thanks to plenty of incompetence at the top, found itself humilated and defeated. Russians soldiers engaged in mutiny. The images of the Russian people cheering Wagner as it rolled through the streets toward Moscow are chilling. Only time will tell if Wagner started something that will lead to Putin's overthrow. It certainly underscores that he doesn't have a firm a grip on power as he thought, and the Russians typically don't put up with weak-looking leadership. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Revolution

Russia has a long history of kicking out leadership it sees as weak, incompetent and ineffective. Russia has lost a staggering 200,000 troops and ungodly amount of equipment in a war it thought would be won in days. Putin has surrounded himself with people who shield him from the truth and tell him what he wants to hear in a very Hitler-like situation in his final days. Gepetto 1,286 Posted June 26, 2023 Billions of roubles: Prigozhin claims Russian forces have found a van and 2 buses containing boxes of his money (msn.com) Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group private military company, has confirmed that Russian security forces had found boxes full of money near his office in St Petersburg. Russian media reported that the boxes contain a total of 4 billion roubles (approximately US$ 47 million). Source: Fontanka, a St Petersburg-based news outlet; Yevgeny Prigozhin’s press service Details: Fontanka reported that a Gazel minivan stuffed full of boxes containing money was found near Prigozhin’s office, in the courtyard of the Trezzini Hotel in St Petersburg. According to Fontanka, Prigozhin is believed to have his office in the Trezzini Hotel. During a search conducted in the hotel the white Gazel minivan aroused suspicion as it did not belong to anyone living at the Akademichesky Lane [the street where the van was parked - ed.]. The van was checked for explosives; when it was unlocked, boxes stuffed with money were found inside. When the money contained inside of the boxes found in the Gazel van was counted, the total was 4 billion roubles in cash (approximately US$ 47 million). After this information was shared, Prigozhin issued a statement saying that in addition to the Gazel van, another two minibuses containing his money were also found. "It wasn’t just the Gazel that was found, but two other minibuses that contained money earmarked for wages, compensations for Cargo 200 [unofficial code for bodies of fighters killed in action - ed.], and other things," Prigozhin said. He also claimed that during its 10 years in business, Wagner Group always used cash for all payments.

After 16 months of stalemate, with Russian forces bogged down by incompetence, corruption and infighting, the Ukraine war yesterday boomeranged right back at Vladimir Putin. The rebellion by his Wagner militia is the most significant challenge to him since he came to power 23 years ago. And though Putin´s former ally Yevgeny Prigozhin pulled back his advance on Moscow – allegedly to avoid bloodshed – two things now seem clear. The first is the likelihood that this is the beginning of the end of the war in Ukraine. Russian forces have been at a stalemate for over a year now, having failed to seize the Ukrainian capital in the opening days of the war, and proving unable to gain any significant new territory since. Justin clearly posts the way he posts because he wants the attention. With that comes good and bad, and the nature of this place allows more of the bad than what most entities think is acceptable. He knows he could just come out and said, "I'm worried that an unstable situation in Russia brings elevated risk of a nuclear incident," but he consciously chooses to guarantee a Russian nuclear strike on US soil and to speak in absolutes. That's what brings the attention. And that's what he wants.

Voltaire 5,181 Posted June 26, 2023 Russia loses one of it's most effective units in Ukraine, if not it's top one. So in that sense, regarding the war, Putin is weakened. We also got a glimpse of what Russian people actually think of the situation, they were cheering on Prigozhin. I don't know if Putin is as weakened as everybody says though. If Russians were actually in the mood to dump Putin, there would have been an outpouring of people to form a groundswell of support by flocking to Prigozhin and that didn't happen.
