Anyone in favor of banning books?

Recommended Posts

Depends on the book I guess.

Raping Kids For Dummies or something similar I might support banning or at least barring its sale within 500 feet of an elementary school.

You are either in favor of banning books or you aren’t. If you are ok with banning certain books, you are in favor of banning books.

Right.  I'm in favor in banning the books I don't like is a non-starter.  The obvious answer is NO.

I don’t think the Anarchist Cook Book should be sold anywhere or viewed in ANY libraries. I looked through it once in college. How to be a terrorist should be the title. Back then it was a felony to own.

Then yes…because i dont think a 6th grader needs to read explicit sexual content or sex changes when they cant process what they are reading.

The answer should be yes in 100% of people.  But, of course, there are some actual libertarians out there.  Not very many.

Also, I would argue that banning books and saying that some books don’t belong in a public elementary school library or class are two different things.

I’d like to see anything written by Howard Zinn banned instead of it being used as an actual history book.

Not ALL books belong in schools.  :dunno:

Do you agree with school boards banning books that have been read in classes for decades?

If I am forced to read a book I should have the opportunity to say Fock you.

Wouldn't that give the school the opportunity to give you a failing grade then?

What book are 6th graders reading about that?

I suppose.  Do grades matter anymore?  I hear race is a big deciding factor.

How many decades? If it’s after the leftists  and the teachers union took over schools then maybe. Probably.

We all know if it’s not happening in your school district then it’s not happening anywhere. Never mind

Yeah, I’m sure there’s a few that could go.

Solid addition to the discussion, as always.

Why though?

Because the left is on a fifty year losing streak. They have screwed up eduction since they took  over , so if they wanted them, they should probably go. It’s like my Giants. The prior GM didn’t get much right, so I’ll assume what’s left isn’t any good either , so you can toss the whole lot for all I care.

That's a pretty crappy way to make decisions.

Just playing the odds. You do everyday, we all do. So why is that crappy?

Horrible take.  Obviously no books should be banned from SOCIETY.  But that’s not the question is it?  This is about which books are appropriate for school age children.  The PG books go in the Elementary school.  The PG-13 books (and lower) go in the Middle School library or curriculum.  On up the ladder…..

I could understand making small, personal decisions that way but I disagree on making important decisions for education that way.

What can I say. I play the odds and they tell me what’s most likely.  I take it from there. Odds are if leftists want it, I don’t. It’s not 100 pct but it’s a good start.

Not much of a free thinker then.  Makes sense.

I saw where schools in Washington were banning To Kill A Mockingbird because “it makes people feel uncomfortable with the racism”

I’d have to go back and look but I saw the clip of a mom reading excerpts out of some book here in Waukee that was pretty explicit…available at the middle school.

Is there a reason you make things up like this?
