Saudi Golf Tour

What does this even mean?   What a weird post.

I have no issue with a golfer taking the big payday, I'd do prolly do it too.  But I wouldn't then take a bazillion dollars and cry about not being able to play on another Tour anymore.  JFC.  Have some balls, you made a decision and live with it.  Get your money, (good for you) but stop selling the public why you did it and stop whining.

Get paid, and play on the LIV Tour.  Good for you.

At least we know your only gripe is some of the LIV golfers wanting to play in majors too.

With all due respect, when you sign a contract for 100 million dollars to play on a golf tour and you know in advance that it  "might" preclude you from all other tours and tournaments.  Nobody wants you hear you cry.  Play on your Tour.....it 's so awesome after all.

That was the best when JT was whining that he didn’t like how LIV guys got to play LIV as well as the majors. As if the PGA tour owns the majors 😂

They have convinced some that they do own them. If they start to exclude players, then I guess the PGA is right.

Both the Open Championship and US Open are, by definition, open. Anyone qualifying for them, regardless of affiliation, should be eligible to participate. In fact, every year both amateurs and golfers not affiliated with the PGA or R&A play in those events. This past year the USGA and R&A proved they’re not beholden, or cares, what the PGA thinks - least for now.

The Masters, they for real don’t give 2 shiits what Jay-Boy thinks and will allow whomever they want to play in their event.

To suggest the PGA Tour has total autonomy over the majors is a bit ridiculous.

LIV Golf nearing cable TV deal with Fox Sports 1, per report

Quote

According to a report posted by Golfweek on Tuesday night, citing multiple unnamed sources, LIV Golf is nearing a deal in which it would purchase airtime on U.S. cable television for its events to appear on Fox Sports 1. So, unlike most sports television deals in which the networks pay rights fees to show league or tour competitions, LIV, which is funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, would purchase the time and then be responsible for selling its own advertising

Citing a source familiar with the specifics of the negotiations, Golfweek reported that LIV asked to receive a rights fee in Year 2 of any deal, as well as a guaranteed time slot, but both requests were rejected by Fox.

It is unclear, Golfweek said, if the deal would begin this year or in 2023, when LIV plans a full slate of 14 events that will run February through September. The fledgling circuit has held five events thus far, with three more scheduled in October—in Bangkok, Thailand; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and at Trump Doral in Miami.

In mid-September, while making media rounds before the LIV event outside Chicago, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman told a local radio station that "the interest coming across our plate [to broadcast LIV] right now is enormous.

“We’re talking to four different networks,” Norman continued. “And live conversations where offers are being put on the table. Because [the networks] can see the value of our product, they can see what we’re delivering in the four-and-a-half-hour window.”

In reality, LIV has faced formidable barriers to many of the top networks and streaming services because of the media companies' current ties to the PGA Tour, their disinterest in golf or their concerns about aligning with a circuit that is controversial because of its ties to a Saudi Arabian kingdom with a history of human rights violations.

I read somewhere yesterday, they are paying Fox to be on and no one else was interested.

Obviously, any business person is going to claim their company is in talks with multiple companies / multiple offers out there. In reality it was and is going to be hard for LIV to be aired on a major network because of all the reasons cited.

I thought they might end up partnering with a streaming platform like Hulu or something.

You could already watch for free streaming from their website so it's really just about gaining traction and market share at this point... so them paying fox is just basically paying for advertising like any start up. It's going to have to be proven before any network is going to make offers to them.

I just hope whatever they do, they bring back Kostis and McCord

Hey Jay-boy, you've banned or suspended all who've associated with LIV - when can we expect to see your big swinging diick sanction FOX Sports next?

FOX is in a no lose situation. If the PGA does give them the boot, then they will air the LIV right next to them.  And I really don't see how they don't get the boot.  Bold!

How embarrassing is that?  Jesus.

Yup. One of the Murdochs told them they had to.

Meh, LIV buying TV coverage amounts to nothing more than glorified commercial spots - which all companies do, including the PGA Tour.

The really funny part - all the cash the Saudi's keep dishing out, all the $$$ Jay-boy and the rest keep boo hoo'n about - comes from the very whiny biitches crying about LIV.

Keep buying those SUVs Billy Horschel, keep flying all over the globe in your jet Jay-boy!

Just like LIV Tour events.  Nobody cares or watches.

It’s a picture of an lpga member winning lpga Europe event title sponsored by Saudi and the Saudi public investment fund. There is a whole series of these events and the PGA has no issue

or are we past SA being the narrative and now it’s just derrrp no one cares about LIV anyway derrrp.

So, Fred Ridley and Augusta National give the big FU to Jay-boy, Rory, TJ and the rest - basically telling them to eat shiit and letting any LIV players who qualifies to play.

Good.

Thanks for the read. I feel like both sides sound pretty stupid. LIV sounds dumb and the PGA sounds dumb stating that LIV was formed to take attention off of Khashoggi.... I've heard more about Khashoggi because of LIV

I'm also a little confused how the subpeona would reveal phone numbers, names and e-mail addresses or how the lawsuit would help build an intelligence file on 9/11 victim families. The PGA said it's not working to help organize 9/11 family member protests so where would this info come from via the lawsuit? .... the accusation that LIV has hired someone to track the 9/11 justice group is terrible if true.    9/11 is something people on this bored know I don't take lightly so by no means am I defending LIV Golf if this is true.

Who knows what’s true.  Hopefully this is not and just posturing.

Possible broadcast deal coming with CW?   Just read in a golf digest e-mailed article that Feherty hinted at it.

I watched a little bit. There are some awful aspects but without sounding like a LIV fanboy, which I’m not, this is the first event of their first real season. How much can you expect?

It’s already miles ahead of where all the haters thought it would be. Remember when no one of note was going to go? Now their mid level players are well known names.

No, they’ve got names- no doubt about that. It just feels like an exhibition. No sense of urgency. Cameron Smith drinking beer out of a shoe. Lots of other ridiculousness. Not at all compelling.

LIV had a better field than the Honda.  Yet the Honda was the far more interesting tournament. Apparently.  I didn't watch LIV.

I said it from the start.   Lower level guys are going to win the tournaments.  They are going all out.  The names who are paid will just show up.  The small field is going to lead to run away victories.   Or 3rd rounds with 2 guys in the mix.  Howell won it at 16 under.  T5 was 6 under.

Yeah, it’s not about field. LIV field was better- by a lot. But the PGA Tour product was so much better. There was no sense of pressure and urgency at the LIV event. No passion. Everyone gets paid. A lot. It’s a bad model.
