Why Are Republicans Running From Their Greatest Accomplishments

So funny that you guys try to downplay your own crowning achievement.

Just goes to show — deep down, you know the American people don’t want the trash you’re selling.

Never have, never will.

But the marketing is pretty impressive, I’ll give you the that :first:

Happy to have you back.

It's funny how you're acting like a sore loser on this, when you didn't even lose.  🤣

Abortions can still happen.  The government will still pay for them.  Stop making this something that it isn't.

I did lose, because you won, as much as you’re now oddly trying to disclaim it

But no, I’m not a sore loser. Truly, honestly, this isn’t trolling—I’m impressed. To stick with a goal for 50 years like that, it’s amazing. I respect commitment and the long game, even where I disagree with the results.

Also, I’ve said this many times before, but I’m not really that pro-choice. At some point it is murdering babies, and who can really throw their whole weight behind that? My support was tepid.

I'm pro-life, but I'm fine with abortion at any time, as long as the person who's getting it... is paying for it.

What if Herschel Walker is paying for it?

Because it's a political loser. But in the end, most people want some abortion rights for women and just disagree on when it should become illegal. As always, there are radicals on both sides but I'd bet most people can agree it'd be sometime in the 1st half of the 2nd trimester.

Exactly.

The issue is a political loser. The issue to focus on is how the Dems are shooting themselves in the foot across every issue possible. The GOP does well when reminding of Biden* and the Dems incompetence, their destructive policies, and their radicalism and scumbaginess.  Let abortion slide, it's the one actual issue the Dems have to run on because they've sh*t the bed everywhere else, so they've been fanning the flames since June on it, which hopefully recedes as people get use to the new status quo/reality.

Don't care, as long as it's not the tax payers paying hundreds, if not thousands of dollars more than two people who should've spent $2 on a freaking condom.

But when I've said that here about people on the left the MAGA right here jumps all over it insisting that Biden is a far left whacko.

Of course they did, I mean do you really presume there are not people just like you on the right? Immaturity is not the dominion of either group.

I think there are people on both sides who are convinced they are the high road.

Again- as a centrist- I laugh at it all and like pointing out the hypocrisy.

It wasn't "overturned", it was pushed down to the state level.  Had the Supreme Court "overturned" it, they'd have made abortions illegal.

Wait, Roe v Wade wasn’t overturned?  Better tell Fox News that

Mooney said the nearest condom store to him is  5 miles away. So you have to factor in gas as well.

It’s either extremely delusional or intentional gaslighting. Either way, it doesn’t look great for TBay or the GOP :(

Are abortions still legal in the US?  Yes or No?

I do think that Republican's, in general, got what they wanted.  They want abortions to be at the state level.  If people want abortions, they'll allow it there, if they don't, then it won't be.  There won't be a federal guideline on it.

That's true.  The cost to drive the 10 miles round trip under Biden's America is more expensive than the condom itself.  The government can reimburse them $2 for the condom that they should've bought and $5 for the gas they should've used.  The people getting the abortion can pay the rest.

Roe v Wade was overturned and as a result abortions are illegal in some states. HTH

And you can’t say the bolded. The feds could probably make abortion illegal nationwide, and many republicans would like to. We’ll have to see what happens there, though it certainly won’t happen overnight if it ever does

So yes, abortions are still legal in the US.  Go pedal your b.s. somewhere else.

Lol, you’re either stupid or a liar. No, they aren’t legal everywhere in the US. They used to be, before — say it with me — THE SUPREME COURT OVERTURNED ROE V WADE

I don't think you understand the difference between court decisions and laws.  The Supreme court doesn't make the law.

Is abortion legal in the US, yes or no?  All that is required is a one word answer.

Depends on what state you are in.

I'll explain it to you.  Row v Wade decided that getting an abortion was a constitutional right.  That meant that a state could not make abortions illegal.  Roe v Wade was overturned, which means now a state can make abortion illegal.  There is no federal law that makes abortions illegal, just state laws, the same state laws that were illegal due to the Row v Wade decisions.

HTH.

Back to the OP topic, I applaud having a conservative court because I think that high courts should lean conservative.  Changing the law of the land should not be done lightly, for instance just because it is a politically woke position du jour.  We have very tough rules to create a constitutional amendment for this purpose; the courts should have a similar stringency.  Our country has been successful in part because, independent of parties, SCOTUS has never been super progressive.  I'm not saying change is bad; in fact it's good.  I'm just saying that it should happen slowly.

Basically Chesterton's fence:  don't tear down a fence without knowing fully why it is there and what purpose it serves.

Anyway, my desire for a conservative court has never had anything to do with Roe, even though I oppose abortion as birth control or eugenics.  I believe that both sides in Dobbs argued that there was no middle ground; the court should stick with Roe or not.  They chose "not".

I could be wrong but I don't think Dobbs was as much about sending it back to the states as it was saying it should be legislative, not judicial.  I wouldn't mind a federal statute protecting some of the edge cases (10 yr old rape victim, life of the mother or viability of the fetus, etc.).  Then let the states choose their limits for abortions of convenience.
