Cold weather coat recommendation

My cold weather coat fell apart so I bought this as a replacement: Link

Not cheap but not too expensive either. Really well built and lightweight but super warm - I was walking around in 25 degree weather the other night completely toasty. The Sherpa interior is so comfy you could probably wear it with a tee shirt and be fine. I’m 5’11 about 170-175 and a medium fits fine with probably room for a sweater.

Just throwing this out there with Christmas and cold weather coming up.

This wouldn't be for you but I just bought it for my daughter.  I had it shipped to her in college and she just showed me over Thanksgiving break.  I was impressed with the quality and she says it is extremely warm.

I have a different/warmer Carhartt coat provided from my company when I was working on the north slope of alaska during the winter.  It is very warm.

 

Below is my other winter coat, it is also butt ugly and very warm.

I generally am not dealing with cold like i used to in CO. I have many coats for different conditions.

 

for colder temps i have a north face (cannot find the style online)

 

on colder nights here at home i have something kind of like this:

Actually this is what I do as well. I wear a cheap, 10 year old coat from eddy bauer and i remember it being under 50 dollars when i got it on clearance. I wear that coat when i rarely need a winter coat. I do not wear my ski jacket out.

The ski jacket is only for skiing.

I have to shower in the morning, hard for me to start my day without one.

I've been working from home since Covid, don't think I'll ever go back to an office. Worked 2 days from home each week before, so it wasn't out of the ordinary to begin with. I can run projects from my office at home or a beach bar in the Keys or on a golf course. As long as my phone has service, I'm good to go.

I have changed back into sweatpants from nice clothes already. I took my wife out to eat for lunch today since Friday is my work from home day and Friday lunch time is our "date night" time, since it is the only chance we really get to talk without the kids. 

 

Edit, unlike reality i work from home only 1/2 days a week. My office is so close that it is nice getting out of the house. If the office was in a bad location my company only requires 2 days a week in the office. Theoretically I could work 3 days from home a week.

I was way ahead of the WFH craze; started it in the late 90s and haven't had an office since.  One day back then I was getting dressed and bemoaned to my wife that my sweatpants were all in the laundry; I should buy some more.

Her response was something like: "ORRRRR, YOU CAN STOP DRESSING LIKE A SLOB EVERY DAY JUST BECAUSE YOU WORK FROM HOME$#@!"

I got the subtle hint.

I had gotten a white puffer Calvin Klein jacket in NYC when we went last year. Thing is extremely warm so it’s hard to wear it that often here. The one in your link is nice and I really like it bro

London Fog. Pricey, but great quality. They have a button down wool ones in black and camel toe that are insulated. I have both but rarely wear them as it rarely gets that cold down here. Cheaper versions you can get, Dockers, at JCPennys. They come in leather also. Good deal. 
 

 I once bought a rattlesnake jacket  in Arizona. Spent seven hundred on it. Ex-wife sprayed lighter fluid on it, whilst I was wearing it and lit me on fire. I loved that jacket.

Black matches with everything.  

Buying a colored coat limits your wardrobe.  

You can get away with dark brown leather or similar, but blue coat with any other color underneath you look like a dope.

long long ago I bought a really nice Polo wool jacket. It's like a weird cross between a peacoat and bomber jacket (black, has a collar, zipper not buttons, not long etc) but it works. It's not overly heavy but pretty warm and works for a lot of occasions. If its in the 20's or something I've got a heavier coat. 

not that i've looked very hard but I can't ever seem to find another jacket like it so I take good care of it. 

 

on a slightly different note, here is a weird clothes shopping thing about me... I don't really like to shop but I used to find that I would end up with something I really liked... a pair of shoes, a golf shirt, a pullover.. whatever... and when I wore it out or lost it or it got ruined in whatever way, I could never find the same thing again. Could sometimes find on Ebay but that was hit or miss. So a few years ago I started immediately buying a second of the same item If I realized I really liked it.  For example a second pair of the same golf shoes and just keep them in the closet for when I chuck the first pair.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but, all the denim companies (we should just say CHY-NA) have switched to stretch flex material for jeans.  Fok that.  I'm not fat and don't need my jeans to stretch.  I was able to find high quality real denim on Poshmark, the only place really.

Yep. I’ve got a couple different colors in jackets but the one I mostly use is a black one. The white CK puffer I got is really nice but it just doesn’t get cold enough to wear it that often. Got a dark blue one that I match with a good bit of stuff

Ha! That’s my dads favorite brand  coincidentally his name is Eddie with the last name starting with a B. He tended to wear a lot of those clothes and any time we got him stuff for Christmas it came from there lol
