Are either of those two things negatively impacting your life?  If so then sure, have at it.

I just don't understand giving up something you like if it doesn't negatively impact your life.  In my experience if you have to give that stuff up you would.

As Horsesass has tried to shame me with, for some inexplicable reason, I've had a ton of health issues the last two years.  Had one 10 day stint in the hospital and one 4 days stint within a year.  Both included long surgeries and my recovery included not being able to booze for 6+ weeks.  No problemo.

I think it's good to do occasional detoxes.  I've done a few in the past few years.  Then again they were for cancer surgeries/treatments... I did do a Sober October the previous year though.  Once you see how much better you feel and in particular sleep, you might rethink the "drink every day" habit (you need to give it a few days before you start feeling better).

Pron, meh, not a problem in my life.  I only use it occasionally to supplement sex with the wife.  I use it maybe 2-3 times per month.

Very healthy sexual relationship with a wife I'm extremely attracted to makes pron less than an afterthought.

I drink quite a bit normally, but at least once a year I go at least a month without to let my body detox and heal.  This year I went all of September, it's not that big of a deal, it's all in your head.  For a New Year's resolution it's going to be to lower the amount on a normal daily and weekly basis.  Less snaking and junk food to loose 10-15 and be at my ideal body weight.

I read about a concept called "damp January," where you still drink, but drink less.  I've already cut back some, but I'm thinking of doing a hard stop on weekdays, and limiting weekend drinks to wine or liquor with mixers (I like my old fashioneds, manhattans, negronis, straight bourbon, and end up drinking them too fast).   

First order of business:  is Sunday night a weekend or weekday?  And does that change if you are retired?
