Our educational system is also dominated by Leftists who are openly spewing their politics on kids.  Kids come out of college brainwashed with Marxist ideology and believing that white men are the source of all the country's problems.  These kids aren't committed to America's founding principles.  They are so intolerant and fragile that they don't want other opinions heard.  They are taught to hate America's founding fathers, to the point where they are literally tearing down statues of Jefferson and Lincoln.  Radical activism is actively encouraged or conveniently excused, all under the banner of "social justice."  Violence has been tolerated so much that it's pretty much known that when a black person gets shot by a cop it's completely acceptable to burn and loot.  And the Liberal Mayors and Governors do nothing to stop it.  "We have to give them space to destroy."  The Left now caters to the very worst among us - the criminals.  They legalized shoplifting, implemented no cash bail, and released thugs right back to the streets to commit more crimes.  They have destroyed America's cities, turning them into giant, filthy, homeless encampments, surrounded by used needless and piles of shittt.  

And then there's the MSM, the all-important Fourth Pillar of Democracy.  Today they are nothing but propaganda pushers.  The greatest thing Trump ever did was smoke them out so we could see just how corrupt and biased they really are.  The American Leftist media rivals the worst of Soviet Union's Ministry of Information.  It was bad enough when they just ignored stories that didn't fit their narrative, but now they've crossed over into overt lying and misrepresenting reality.  Fox strays into this space as well, but the Liberal MSM completely dominates in number and in reach.  The corruption and collusion with Big Tech during the 2020 election was the worst form of election interference this country has even seen, and it's not even close.

There's other things - the entertainment industry ramming filth and propaganda down our throats 24x7, the disgusting embrace of cancel culture, the targeting of children with all that transgender garbage.  Essentially what we are seeing today from the Left is the onset of tyranny that our founders knew would someday come.  Fortunately our founders were brilliant people, and they built many safeguards in the Constitution to stem this tyranny.  The greatest safeguard of all is the 2nd Amendment.  No matter how authoritarian the Left gets, they will never gain full dominion because of all the guns in the country.  It's the last line of defense, which we are approaching very quickly.  That is why assault weapons will never be banned.  Ever.  This isn't 1994.  At a time when the Left is moving toward a totalitarian state, the last thing Conservatives will allow is an assault weapons ban.  Handguns don't work all that well in a civil conflict, and at this point it looks like political violence is already among us.

It's entirely clear to me that the United States isn't going to survive this period intact.  The divisions are too great, and both sides are living in their own information bubbles.  It's confirmation bias at an impenetrable level.  Liberals have always had some degree of hatred for Conservatives.  What's different today is that Conservatives have developed an equal if not greater level of hatred toward the Left.  Conservatives tend to keep their emotions in check, but I think things have gotten so bad that many of them are at the boiling point.  What's put them over the edge is the crossing of a red line - our institutions being corrupted and politicized.  It's blatantly obvious that there are two different standards of justice being applied.  An ex-President and leading candidate for the next election is being targeted for purely political ends, and we literally have political prisoners being locked up for long periods of time for the crime of walking into an open door while being escorted by police.  On a positive note, the police joining sides with the protesters is something the Left should be very concerned about.  I think the same thing would happen with the military.

I hate to puke on the forum like this, but it is pertinent to the discussion of an assault weapons ban.
