wiffleball 4,790 Posted April 4, 2023 So the deal with the potassium is tough. You mentioned fluid buildup. So they most likely have your dad on one or two different water pills. And specifically lasix. The downside to those things? They leech away potassium as they drain excess fluid out of the system. So, while getting fluid away from the heart and lungs is without a doubt a good thing, a lack of potassium can directly impact heart rhythms. There's another medication that I take as well as lasix. It has potassium in it. Just because of the above. I'll try to look up the name. https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a682627.html

Fluid in lungs, a few blood clots and a mass. was doing better until Saturday night (was in a different unit for a couple weeks), but they readmitted him Sunday morning. Mother called me and I shot down. More stable but has a tube to breath. He was very sedated yesterday and a quite a bit today… but more responsive. Episode last night, but treated quickly. I'm sorry Buddy I'll pray for your Dad

I was going to mention that when my daughter went to the hospital for her diabetes diagnosis (she was in diabetic ketoacidosis), most of her time in the ICU was to slowly raise her very low potassium levels. @Bier Meister, fantastic to hear the good news.

Bier Meister 1,710 Posted April 7, 2023 3 consecutive nights with no episodes. Looked pretty good yesterday with positive spirits. Difficulty speaking due to the tube. Cannot eat yet (also due to the tube). A lot of optimism. Will need surgery to repair a valve, but moving in a good direction.
