I did watch it. To think that Charlie Kirk believes this resonates with anybody other than the farthest right true believers is hilarious. Comparing cars to guns? Cars have a very practical purpose - we all need to go to work. Guns are recreational for most people, let’s be honest about that. But if you want to accept his premise (which has been used before), then go all the way. Driving a car requires a learner’s permit, then proof of driving school, then a driving test. You must buy liability insurance. Your car needs annual safety inspections and registration fees. Everybody accepts this nationwide. So let’s apply the exact same rules to guns.

The point that comes across is that the 2nd amendment is more important than kids living into adulthood. That’s it. That’s exactly how it comes across to a large majority of America. I reject his arguments because they value out-of-date ideas over the lives of children. If the price of “conservative ideals” is thousands of kids being shot to death every year, then those ideals are meaningless. Not that any of Kirk’s ideals had any meaning otherwise.

Republicans would be wise to distance themselves from this guy and his ilk. The supporters of this guy and of these ideas were shocked that Trump lost in 2020 and at the non-existent 2022 red wave. Well, if the GOP thinks these are winning arguments, get ready for many years of Democratic rule.

As for leftist hacks? 2/3rds of Americans support gun restrictions. So if you equate gun regulation as a “leftist” idea, then you live in a country that is at least 2/3 “leftists.”

You don't see a value to guns, others do.  If you want the government to control your life, you are welcome to move to Australia or New Zealand or Canada.  We saw how they treated their citizens during Covid.  Now they know they can do it and the next time will go farther.
