Just going by objective reasoning, I can say with 100% certainty it will NOT turn out well for your side (which used to be mine until I got lied to one too many times by the Dems). You are correct in that this is a clear weaponization of the Espionage Act and is a gross overreach over it's functional intent. Also that there are a lot of ugly "Whataboutisms" used against Trump and Conservatives in general regarding this scandal. But from a technical legal standpoint, this case is the STRONGEST levied against Trump in the past 8 years of what is clearly structured persistent toxic and corrupt political persecution. Two things can be true at the exact same time. The first is that Trump is right in the he is being persecuted by the political establishment beyond measure. The "Deep State" aren't even bothering to hide it anymore. But second, that Trump is an idiot and a narcissist grifter who makes every situation worse, far more than it has to be, by opening his big fat mouth and never shutting up, and that leads him to being the legal jackpot right now. Standard disclaimer in that this case is not within my primary area of law. That being said, a lot of this is pretty fundamental. Only ONE of the 37 charges against Trump needs to stick to throw him in prison. If Trump manages to skate by having a juror compromised, then there will be endless rioting, looting and burning. If this gets to SCOTUS and they rule that the Espionage Act violates the Constitution, then there will be endless rioting, looting and burning. If Trump manages to survive all this and win the RNC ticket in the 2024 primaries, then odds are he will lose to Biden in a rematch for POTUS in 2024. He'd lose in a "free and fair election" Since I don't believe 2024 will be a free and fair election, even if Trump got more votes, likely Team Blue and the DNC would find a way to cheat. If Trump even manages to prevail against all that, likely the Deep State will just have him assassinated. Now if I said Trump would get assassinated by his political enemies back in 2015, some people would just laugh it off. But now? After all this? After watching the DOJ, FBI and intelligence services conspire with Obama, Comey, Clinton, the DNC, Big Social Media and the activist MSM to create a total sham of an investigation that became Russia Gate? "They" will never let Trump back into the White House. "They" will likely beat Trump in the 2024 general election even if they don't cheat. But odds are they will and you'll have 2020 and all that chaos over again. And in the rare chance Trump "wins" and they decide not to kill him, it will be more of endless impeachments, investigations, scandal, chaos and utter bloodshed. If you and others want "justice" for what was done to Trump as per the total persecution, not as a specific person with all his exhausting baggage, but as a matter of principle as a United States citizen, then you'll have to accept it will need to be someone else who gets it done. Not Trump. Maybe DeSantis. Maybe Nikki Haley. Maybe Tim Scott. Someone else. Is Donald Trump bad for America? In 2015 and 2016, when he went on the non stop attack against the establishment and activist MSM, he was the standard bearer that Conservatives and Republicans needed. But as of today, he's toxic for the Conservative base. He brings more harm than good, and it's very tough to see the good sometimes. Team Blue is actually right on a major point - As a baseline, Donald Trump is bad for America. But the CONTEXT behind that goes further. He's bad for America NOT because of the reasons they state and based on their own motives. He's not a white supremacist. He's not a fascist. He's not pushing open tyranny. He's a 4th rate failed reality TV "star" who is a shameless gutless narcissist grifter who needs to be at the center of attention no matter what, even if America is burning around him. Based on the information so far, this is a more than solid case against him here. It is NOT FAIR in how all this is being weaponized, that is true, but this is a matter of law. As per the actual law, Trump is very likely in the jackpot. I've only been posting regularly in the FFT GC for a few months now. And in that time, I've been beating the living sh!t out of anything woke, radical left and identity politics. If there was an escape hatch here, I'd say it openly. But there's not. But I'm waiting for a radical leftist to just come out and say it in the open - Even if Trump is cornered here and likely going to be put away, nothing at all can justify what has happened in the past 8 years against him. It's indefensible as as matter of principle. Even if you hate the guy and want to spit in his face, the way so many major elements moved against him, against the actual principle of law, bodes nothing good for our country as a whole. If some here believe that Trump is some kind of "disease" then the "cure" itself cannot be a pathway to set our entire Republic on fire just to get rid of one political enemy. But I have my doubts any of the radical leftists here could actually be that honest about it. There was a time in the past when what was good personally for Trump just happened to also be what was good for our Republic. But that's not true in current times. He needs to be driven out of professional politics, then the Deep State after him also needs to be purged too. We have a duty to defend our Republic, not defend the Big Cheeto beyond all practical reason.

Blue Horseshoe 348 Posted June 15, 2023 9 minutes ago, Hardcore troubadour said: If it isn’t political then why hire this prosecutor? He’s clearly shown himself to be an ideologue first and foremost, that’s why. Let's say the practical legal evidence is a "bullet" That's a figurative representation to explain a point. If the shooter is a hard radical leftist partisan, that doesn't change the fact that the weapon is full of "bullets" that Trump gave up himself. He literally handed them over. Trump being persecuted is indefensible, and you are exactly right in that Jack Smith ( and his wife especially ) is clearly compromised as a hard partisan. But that there is even a pathway to put Trump is prison at all is on Trump himself. What do coaches say to young guys sparring? "Don't make it easy for the other guy to hit you, even if you might lose" At some point, Trump needed to shut his big fat mouth and at least make some effort to try to help himself. If the other guy is trying to punch you and he has brass knuckles hidden under his boxing gloves, don't just walk to the center of the ring, put your hands down and beg the guy to pummel you in the face. That's exactly what happened here. Sometimes you need to lose a few smaller battles for the greater overall goal of winning the war. Trump feels the need to wage total all out war against every single battle period. This a function of his narcissism - That it's impossible for him to ever be wrong Unfortunately that attitude makes it easier to have the activist MSM deflect and gaslight when Trump is sometimes actually right about things. The willful Deep State corruption to put Trump down is not Trump's fault. In that regard, he really is a victim. But the part of this equation where Donald Trump is actually a total d!ptshit, that aspect is all on him. It doesn't justify the persecution, but if you keep doing the same stupid sh!t over and over again when pure tribalists are hunting you, eventually they are going to get you. paulinstl 296 Posted June 20, 2023 11 hours ago, Hardcore troubadour said: Espionage! Quote The Espionage Act does not merely target “traitors and spies.” Even during Trump’s own presidency, obscure citizens who kept classified material at their homes, and were never accused of communicating it to anyone or aiding a foreign country, were convicted and sentenced to years in prison under the very same Espionage Act provision Trump is now charged with breaking. The Espionage Act provision under which Trump was indicted by a Florida federal grand jury on 31 counts, Section 793(e), makes it a crime when someone without authorization “willfully retains” national defense information “and fails to deliver it to the officer or employee of the United States entitled to receive it." “The Espionage Act is routinely relied upon to prosecute individuals for willful retention or dissemination of national defense information. While the law’s name makes one think it only concerns actual spying, its provisions are far broader than that narrow concept and have been upheld by the courts time and time again,” said Bradley Moss, a national security lawyer in private practice. Keep that head in the sand, these facts are straightforward, enough so that anyone who can read should understand the Espionage charges are directed at his willful retention of the documents and has nothing to do with being a spy. It is just that simple, it has never been about spying, and it will never be. In this case, former President Trump hasn’t been charged with spying for a foreign government, or espionage as we normally think about it, but he has been charged with willfully withholding national defense information – which is the way that a case like this is normally charged,
