Mandatory education to a specific belief is indoctrination.  You want them to love and respect what you love and respect, not what their families may teach them or what they may come to believe on thier own in the due course of time.

 

I presume you came to your beliefs over the due course of time without having them force fed to you, or perhaps in spite of that.  Maybe you could allow that same grace to others.

 

If my comparison was gross it was meant to be, and it was also entirely apt.  When you raise the specter of mandatory you are crossing into oppressive territory.  For simple regulatory compliance it may be tolerated, but for shaping belief, no.  You support government sponsored orthodox belief. You seek the genocide of free thought and belief.

Every night, he shares some scripture and his faith. He doesn't force it on anyone, but is open to sharing his beliefs if people want to know more. 

I don't believe in God. I did go to Sunday School as a kid, and I fully believe that it helped me overall as a person and human being. Church is more than just "God", it also is a chance for community, friendship, mentorship and support. It's a conduit where people can show each other real humanity without motive. Even if they don't believe. When I was very young, an older Christian couple helped me. Very likely saved my life. They were not my blood family, but the principles behind their faith set the pathway for their empathy and generosity for the sake of a long ago but then very lost young man. While I do not believe in God, I believe in the power of faith beyond all measure. 

What the radical left and establishment Democrats, some and not all, are doing against innocent children is indefensible. It will align an atheist like myself and a Christian like @weepaws

But you'll see around the country, it's even aligning Muslims, Armenians, Russians, Latinos, single parents, the elderly, Asians, a huge melting pot of people who love their children more than anything in this entire world.  For nearly all parents in this country, if "you" come after their kids, you better kill them first. You better put them down for good. Because nearly all parents won't care if they lose their house, their money, their freedom, their own lives, anything, to keep their innocent children safe. 

A large cross section of Team Blue declared open war on America's children. They want to use them, churn them, brutalize them and spit them out like cheap cannon fodder.  If the enemy of my enemy is my friend - Then if you've done enough to actually get Muslims and Christians to shake hands, agree, find common ground, and join forces against you, then you as a political Party have truly and seriously f**cked up. 

America's children are not cannon fodder. They are not bargaining chips. They are not future woke shock troopers to be deployed for someone's political agenda. If the radical left wants those kids, they better come and kill all the parents first. And there are more of "us" than there are of them. 

Now THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE ONE HILL I WILL DEFINITELY DIE ON. 

I will proudly stand with @weepaws and other Conservatives and Muslims and anyone of any background and faith and culture, that honors what it means to be a true American citizen in defense of innocent children.

It’s a perversion of the term “free thought” for it to mean intolerance and bigotry. If you want to call reason and science and acceptance of others indoctrination have at it. If you want to call anti racism indoctrination be my guest. But you do a great disservice to those who actually died at the hands of the Communists and Nazis (I have relatives who died under both.)

Maybe you could honor your dead by not promoting indoctrination of youth.  The nazis too thought they had science and reason on their side in their indoctrination and the communists thought they had reason.  I would argue otherwise.  I argue against those who think they have the truth and are therefore entitled to force that truth on others, as you advocated in your original post.  

I note Jefferson in promoting state-sponsored  education proposed a secular cirriculum.  He wanted the basics of math, science, and languages taught as well as the arts and philosophy.  He did not seek mandatory indoctrination to belief.  He sought providing the tools of thought, as do I.  I would include in those tools of thought logic and rhetoric, something at which you fail, continually engaging in logical fallacies (your favorites are apeals to authority, authority you frequently misunderstand, and moving the goal posts though I dare say I have seen you employ nearly every logical fallacy in your time on this board) .  I do not promote racism or bigotry.  I oppose those as I understand them.  I promote allowing children the freedom to reach their own conclusions, just as you were allowed to reach your own conclusions.  You seem to not trust the next generation to make the same conclusions on their which  you have reached.  You need to indoctrinate them to your orthodoxy.   I need them to be creative thinkers, free from the shackles of indoctrination.  I need them to be free from overbearing government.  You often argue that the history of human thought is a progression to your way of thinking.  You should trust in that inexorable march forward.  From my limited observation of the history of thought the march forward is only interrupted by powerful institutions like church or state attempting to impose by indoctrination an orthodoxy of thought. Myself I reject religion though I have found certain religious scholars to be extremely intelligent.  Though I reject it I do defend the right of parents to indoctrinate their children.  Children belong to the parent and not the state unless extreme circumstances exist where stepping into that relationship is absolutely essential.  On this issue that means parents are free to support or oppose thier children's transitioning and I want no laws prohibiting the same. I could, potentially, support laws prohibiting state licensed professionals from taking irreversible action on a child.  Once a child reaches the age of majority, or can convince a court they ought to be emancipated earlier than the standard age of majority, then I see no legal reason to deny them access to medications or surgery.

This is true.  The entertainment level is priceless.  Just the other morning, about 0230, I was clearing up from a run and pulled my battalion buggy up to an intersection known for “action”.  I had my windows down to enjoy the fresh Spring air filled with the scent of garbage, booze, weed, and vomit and also enjoy the banter that I knew was coming.  Having “FIRE” plastered on your buggy always makes you a target, if you will.  After jumping out in front of my car and spreading their a$$ cheeks, they pleasantly mentioned that they had their own hoses, too and proceeded to wave their cacks.  We exchanged jokes about firemen, hoses, etc.  After politely declining their services, we waved goodbye, and I was on my way.
