AP Celebrates Independence Day By Explaining Why The Word ‘Patriot’ Is Problematic

.....The Associated Press kicked off the Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday with an article explaining why the word “patriot” has become problematic in recent years....In the article, the outlet argued that the word had been overtly political and taken up by extremist groups, used in ways that made it less about love for the country and more about hatred for certain minority groups.....“The term ‘patriot’ in America has become infused in political rhetoric and school curriculums, with varying meanings, while also being appropriated by white nationalist groups,” the outlet tweeted along with a link to the full piece......

....“Today, the word and its variants have morphed beyond the original meaning. It has become infused in political rhetoric and school curriculums, with varying definitions, while being appropriated by white nationalist groups,” the article alleged, using data from the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center to support the idea that radical right-wing extremists had coopted the word. “Trying to define what a patriot is depends on who is being asked.....”

"Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism."  - Kenny Powers

This tactic of finding common terms being used by small groups to diminish the good things in this nation is a wierd way to behave.

People who are go out of their way to try to own “patriotism” are usually annoying as hell or worse up to some thing.

I do wish people who lived here would realize how amazing it is and appreciate that. There are also many things to improve and to be critical doesn’t necessarily make you unpatriotic.

I'm actually not patriotic at all. I feel no relation to someone who lives 1500 miles from me and lives a completely different lifestyle. They aren't my fellow countryman

I’d lump people who get triggered by the flag and people who have 20 flags on their car and wear a “fuxk your feelings” in the same pile.

Avoid at all costs.

What's the over/under on when the New England Patriots will be pressured to change their name? 5 years? 10 years?

I suggest the new name be the New England Fock Faces!

Suck it, Pats!

Just officially change their name to the Cheatriots.  Their logo can be a giant asterisk. *

Not So Fun Fact:

The term "Patriot" was appropriated by Republicans in the late 60s with slogans like "America, Love It Or Leave It"

Patriot Definition: A person who loves and supports his/her country.

Patriot Front  - Nazis

Patriot Prayer - Nazis

Moms for Liberty - Nazis

Most of the III% weirdos put Patriot in their group names too - Nazis

Patriot Act - let government spy on us

Anytime I see a group using Patriot or Liberty in their name, I expect it to be a cover for something very un-American.

Also, the NE Patriots were the biggest cheaters in NFL history, so… yeah be very wary of anybody using the word to describe themselves.

They’re not wrong.

they are wrong unless you can give me some sort of legal definition where it has been appropriated by a group and from whom.  otherwise its just nonsense.

a SANE person might say "i feel in my opinion it has been appropriated..." but you take the INSANE train of thought and say "they arent wrong to say it has been appropriated" as if there some legal definition somewhere and can be proved in court.

Now the liberals are pushing bowling ball figures. You can see them on the cover of Sports Illustrated swim suit editions.

The only two things I know about Mrs. Tardcore are 1) she had a rough pregnancy at 50 years old and 2) her husband can’t get it up for her without Viagra.

:dunno:
