Speaker of the House discussion

Recommended Posts

I’m frankly surprised there’s been no discussion of this. Jordan is likely to become Speaker tomorrow, and for MAGA types and modern day conservatives (which form the bulk of those posting here) this is in many ways nearly as big a victory as Donald Trump winning the Presidency in 2016, if not more so. If there was a civil war in the GOP, Jordan’s victory will mean it’s over. The establishment types have lost. The party has been fully transformed into the Freedom Caucus/Trump vision: nativist, nationalist, anti-woke, and no compromise with Democrats whatsoever. Since that is what most of you guys want, you should be pretty happy about it.

If Jordan sticks to his pledges it will mean aid to Ukraine cut off, Joe  Biden impeached, and an impending government shutdown unless spending on things Democrats love is severely curtailed. And that’s for starters. Of course we will have to see if any of this actually happens.

Maybe. Except that I wrote MAGA AND modern day conservatives. I believe that most of those who post here are one or the other or both. Wouldn’t you agree? (I would include modern libertarians as modern conservatives since, although they still disagree on social issues, they’re in general agreement about illegal immigration and nationalism , whereas old school libertarians had very different positions on these issues.)

The KKK are less stereotypical than you are in this post.

I don't have an opinion or know much of anything about Jim Jordan. I do want to note, I prefer being described as simply normal as opposed to anti-woke. Thank you very much. :)

Fake outrage from the left.  I do not care much for Jordan but if he gets in the Democrats are getting what they asked for.  Everyone complains that there is no compromise in Washington.  So McCarthy works with Democrats to get something done and what do they do?  Work with those they claim to hate most to pull the rug out from under the guy that worked with them.  This just proves that no good dead goes unpunished.

And I'll bet you are happier than most Republicans that Jordan may be Speaker because it gives Democrats and MSM something to complain about.  So can you admit that you are really getting what you want?

Jordan denied being aware of sexual abuse at Ohio State despite multiple people saying they told him personally.

No. I don’t like it. I’m committed to helping Ukraine and that may not continue,

Also I don’t live for scoring points against those who I disagree with,

I didn’t think I was being rude in the OP. Sorry if you fell otherwise. Normal is whatever a majority believes, if the majority of the country is now anti-woke (no way of knowing how true this is) then that is the normal position.

I think the House Dems should have voted for McCarthy. I wrote that here. But as far as deserving stuff sorry I don’t really think like that, if Jordan is bad for the country it won’t be the politicians who will suffer.

I wasn't offended. Anti-woke is fine. I was just being facetious.

I must have missed that but I believe you.

Still they had to have known what would happen.  If you are correct about Jordan, the Democrat house members did not mind voting to fock up the country because it would not be them that suffered.  Sounds like a bunch of self serving aholes to me.

Hadn't had time to pay attention lately but I like Jim Jordan quite a bit. Be it McCarthy, Scalise, Jordan, or anybody else, this may well be an impossible job to perform well in, but the country does need a SotH, so good luck if Jordan does land it.

Yes I have thought that for some time. These are the same folks who supported MAGA candidates in primaries with the hope they would lose general elections without being concerned about the damage that was doing to the Republican Party and thus the nation. A lot of them are jerks and I don’t trust them at all. As a liberal I prefer their positions to those of conservatives, but that doesn’t make them good people.

I do not hate the guy and I hope he gets in because they need someone.  I just think what the Dems did to McCarthy was typical Washington B.S. And now they want to complain about what they made.

There is enough of that to go around.  Some Republicans would help AOC become Speaker if they thought it would help them in the next election.  i just think the outrage here is fake.  They knew what they were doing.

I think we are all in wait and see mode.  This has been a cluster because the majority is so slim.

He will make a fine speaker.  If we get a clean election in 2024 he will preside over a supermajority and be critical in pushing the MAGA agenda through the House. That will be beautiful.

The sick liberal bastards are always going to be miserable no matter what. They dance and cheer that decisions were made to allow in millions of illegals until they are faced with having to dealing with them. Then they whine and moan. Same for every other topic they stick their greedy little hands into whether it be sex, war, economy, elections, social issues, etc. They all are a bunch of do nothing, no good leeches on this nation. If every liberal dropped dead today, I would be fine with it and even offer help in throwing their dead corpses into a massive fire pit to rid them completely from this earth.

It a well known secret in Columbus that well connected homosexual men used to have access to the same showers used by male athletes in the 1970’s and 80’s. It was a creepy situation.  I am sure they were allowed to ogle Jordan as well and he had to deal with it.  Remember this university was heavily funded by Wexner/Epstein.

This is pyrrhic victory for the Dopey Right.  Jordan's a good soundbyte for the DNC in regards to House seats in 24.  If he tries to do anything stupid in the next 12 months, the Democratic Party will rope a dope him in Congress.

That being said,  if the Republicans could actually back normal people who are strong Conservatives instead of ass clowns who are strong Conservatives.....they'd be able to win two or three election cycles.

I expressed my disappointment about that in another thread too. I get the temptation to help the GOP imploded on a national stage, but I would have been much more impressed when the vote to table motion came if they had just voted present, let it be tabled and not been involved(if it worked that way, otherwise vote for the tabling). While watching them self-destruct has it's political advantages, it doesn't help the people who need the government to actually govern.

Giving Matt Gaetz what he wants will prove in the long run, if not also the short run, to be a huge mistake. Letting a small minority comprised of venal idiots dictate the party's path forward will haunt the party.

Care to tell us what you think of what Gaetz wants? Besides saying he’s an a-hole?

He wanted to get rid of McCarthy as speaker for personal reasons, not for the best interests of the country, and he got it.  Not sure what more you're looking for.

Multiple accounts of specific conversations between wrestlers and Jordan:

https://www.si.com/college/2023/10/13/jim-jordan-speaker-candidacy-roils-osu-wrestling-community

The odd thing is that there's even a report of Jordan confronting Strauss:

https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/former-ohio-state-wrestler-shares-time-he-confronted-jim-jordan-about-dr-richard-strauss/

So it's not even like he did nothing at the time, he's just pretending now that it never happened.

A lot of people got silenced.  It was almost as sick as Penn State.  Powerful people are able to do what they want.  Jordan was a nobody at the time.
