NYC to charge drivers $23 daily to drive cars in the city

Recommended Posts

NYC will be charging people to pay to drive in their city. And the cost is around $23 per day. Does not matter if you work there, have a doctors appointment, jury duty, live there, etc. You have to pay to drive your car now even more than paying all the taxes on it. Theyre trying to combat “congestion” but sounds more like a way to embezzle more money and give more to migrants

Works for me.  Less traffic, maybe more revenue to pay for all those illegals...of course it could also just chase more people away too.....the paying people who keep all those social programs alive.

I remember being there back in 07 when I use to drink and $6 a draft beer then, wonder how much they charge now ? I'm guessing $10 or $12.

I go there for work a couple times a year.  I would say 9 is the average.

Thanks and not quite as bad as I expected but still.

Unless it is a real dive, most places charge that for a draft beer. Unless you drink pabst or something similar.

What gets me is when they charge $15 for a tiny ass cocktail and they measure the pour.

Physically stopping folks to collect the toll would only add to congestion so I prersume they will try to charge folks using license plate readers.  How will that work?  They will have to add to a bureaucracy to send out tickets and to process payments. How will that work for out-of-staters?

In the end it will just drive more business and more folks out of New York, which is fine, but they then end up infesting other areas.

Rich people really, really like this. The rest of you can get on the subway.  Happy stabbings!

I think 23 a day is dumb. Not enough. I am all for less congestion. Charge more.

And now the trucks will be delivering at night. That will be fun.  I love the night life, I like to boogie.

I was surprised how little traffic there seemed to by in NYC last week Friday-Sunday.  It was my first time there.

They need to train their super rats to pull rickshaws.  Single occupancy rickshaws could travel side by side, two to a traffic lane, thus alleviating congestion.  Call them Less than Handsome cabs.  I figure four rats, in a team, to every rickshaw.

Going to suck for me because I assume a lot of drivers will start taking the Railroad which is already kind of crowded.

I'm sorry.  It was a busy couple days!  I don't anticipate going back anytime soon, but I'll hit you up if I do.

Congestion is certainly a real problem, but I don’t care for this solution. Penalizes the poor and middle class

This is why Democrat politicians are jackazzes and the people that support them are incompetent.  People are NOT going to stop driving and take public transportation instead.  There is no outcome to this that will improve the everyday goings-ons.

Most likely outcomes....

  • More people will work from home causing retail/customer service businesses to suffer.
  • More people will look to work for other jobs outside of NYC, causing some businesses to lose employees and reduce production.
    • The net result of this will be businesses raise wages to at worst cover a large chunk of this added cost.
    • That added cost by the businesses will get passed on to the end user and increase costs of goods and services.
    • Increase of goods and services increase the cost of living, and the money coming in from the $23/day/driver, will NOT help the lower income earning locals.  (anyone want to take a guess at what demographic that hurts the most?).
  • The people who lose the most are the people who need their cars and money the most.  In other words, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Ah, remember the days where the Democrats supposedly fought for the little guy?  Yeah, good times, good times.

I guess. I take it you agree it’s just another case of elitist democrats sticking it to the working class. As they do.

I don’t think he has them at heart. This is purely transactional. And after experiencing his first go round, I say let’s do it again.  He did a good job and kept his word on many, not all, issues. And that’s rare.

Well we can probably at least agree that Eric Adams shouldn’t be running anything

Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. As what was said about EA thirty years ago is true still. Eric is about Eric. Don’t let him fool you.
