I love when posters here try to tell others what the 3 major issues should be for them.    Reality is, it very much is an issue that gets the people out and the last few years have shown that.  It just seems the right refuses to believe or understand that and seems to want to push more and more towards bans that aren't popular at all with the public.

I spent 30 years in the media, so this whole conpiracy theory that the government controls it is baloney. I spent about a third of my career with a major media company, directing coverage and making the calls on what went on Page 1. 

I assure you that the Fourth Estate controls itself, albeit with biases that were kept in check when I was in the business. 

The only place opinions got discussed was behind closed doors in the editorial-board meeting.

I've been watching CNN a lot lately, and they seem to have moved a bit closer to the middle lately and get plenty of Republican perspectives in there without talking over or belittling them.

Thank you. I have also worked in news media, but on the TV and radio side. Currently work in healthcare, another profession targeted by MAGA. I will never get over the ignorant hubris of people making conspiratorial claims like the government controls media or that medical practitioners are somehow aware that a vaccine doesn't work, or worse, but still push it on patients.

All of it is 100% bullshlt, and only those that have zero clue about how those sectors work would ever make or repeat such patently absurd claims. So, of course, they pretty much all come from MAGAMOOKS.

I responded with, "I don't see it as a competition in which one cancels the other because one is perceived as worse. That is true.  But in order to be elected he has to lie like one.  Politics requires that one be able to lie as easily as breathing.   For instance, if the people of the nation are suffering under oppressive inflation.....you have to be able to skillfully lie that it does not actually exist....maybe for months....

Trump does not have that muscle.  And its wonderful.  Instead he will say something off the cuff that is provably false, but does not actually harm anyone.

He does not subscribe to the normal political lies we tend to observe, and from the media as well, which I find refreshing.   But in order to undo the damage done to this nation, I prefer he be elected if possible...and his antics run counter to that outcome.

Sure, it's a left-leaning publication. It always has been. So has the Washington Post. So what?

Consider their audience. But that doesn't mean the reporters on those publications don't strive to run down the facts and present both sides in their stories. 

I certainly worked for a few right-leaning newspapers. One of them canceled the subscription to "For Better or Worse," one of the nation's top comic strips at the time, because a gay character was introduced. I thought that was stupid

At a different paper, we ran the story about Texor gays being able to get married on the front page below the fold, where it belonged, and the publisher got  and said it shouldn't have been in the newspaper at all. That was even stupider.

It was a huge focking story regardless of anyone's viewpoint. 

A newpaper's editorial-page content certainly needs to reflect the community it serves. Buttmont is a blue city. 

The overarching point being is that the government doesn't control the media, and anyone who believes that is just ignorant and uninformed.

I actually think Trump could create a positive out of the abortion thing, or at least neutralize it.  Something like, "abortion is a contentious issue with strong feelings on each side.  That is why I'm glad that the court I appointed* sent it back to the states, to be decided on a local level.  My message to all of you who feel strongly on this issue is to use your powers of persuasion and the political processes** available to you to convince your neighbors of your position, and to create laws to that effect."

* -- I don't think "I appointed" is necessary, but Trump's narcissism requires him to look the bestest in any speech.

Intelligent voters understand basic economics and supply and demand. They understand the inflation causes rather than ignorantly blaming the president. 

The president doesn't set food prices. Food companies do.

However, Clownzo not only played a monster role in the overturning of Roe v. Wade, he's bragging about it and taking credit for it.

But if you want to give a president credit for something, how about giving Biden credit for slowing inflation and bringing down gas prices?
