The Real timschochet 6,448 Posted January 13, 2024 It’s a pretty basic question, and I’m asking it of conservatives in this forum. I’m not making any arguments or judgments. The right wing in Congress does not want to go along with the deal that Mike Johnson agreed to. They are demanding: 1. A return to Remain in Mexico, Trump’s other policies on the border, and funding for a complete wall across the southern border. 2. Severe cuts to the spending package, including the stoppage of all monies going to sanctuary cities until these cities end their sanctuary city status. 3. No more money for Ukraine. These Republicans, led by Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene, represent a minority of the House but there are enough to prevent a deal being reached. They will not agree to any deal without these 3 points and would rather see the government shut down. My question to conservatives here is: do you agree with them? Or do you think that Mike Johnson’s compromise should be accepted? Or do you have another solution in mind?

Far more Federal $ goes to Red states than Blue cities, which is something these nimrods usually remember after a couple of weeks of shutdown. Blue cities financially support the real welfare queens- the Red states.

RaiderHaters Revenge 4,243 Posted January 13, 2024 I agree with a complete shutdown. One of the primary and only purpose of the government is to protect the country. If they aren’t doing that then we have no country to protect

Raven Fan 362 Posted January 13, 2024 I'm a massive lib but the border is a disaster and is worth shutting the government down to address since sleepy Joe doesn't seem interested. A lot of the criticism leveled at joe on the economy are complete lies, but the border actually outweighs all the good. Something drastic needs to be done. It’s a garbage argument anyway because every study I’ve seen on the subject includes SS disbursement, pensions, Medicare and defense spending in their calculations. Blue states are the real welfare states.
Cdub100 3,843 Posted January 13, 2024 I'm not a conservative, but yes I hope they shut down. I hold no belief the uniparty will do it though. Conservatives are weak. They are all bark and no bite. Voltaire 5,203 Posted January 13, 2024 I support Ukraine funding and have been 85% supportive of what the Biden administration ahs been doing there. But not securing the border is a far more important issue and holding up funding of his priorities in order to force the administration to do something about it seems the only way anything will get done. Blue states are the real welfare states. None of what you listed counts as welfare boyo. The facts remain that the poorest and least educated states are overwhelmingly bright bright red. The richest and best educated are bright bright blue. Blue counties produce 75%+ of the country's GDP despite there being far fewer blue counties. And please save your tired "hur dur da baltimore city kids can't read hur dur" childish arguments. And also let's not try to blame the red states being poor on minorities since the bigly MAJORITY of voters in red states are cultist. And were that argument to actually hold water than bigly diverse blue states would be the poorest and dumbest, yet they ain't. Face facts, red states are about not progressing, sky fairies, and fear of minorities.

RLLD 4,143 Posted March 13 The Democrats are free to shutdown the government as they please, of course. We will ignore their past positions on shutting down the government, when they pretended to care about people, when it was really just about power. Later, should the Republicans do some shut down, the Democrats will once again decry the act as violence against the people of the nation. So, Democrats remain the enemy of the people.
