Early data suggests 2023 had the lowest amount of violent crime in this country in over 50 years:

That includes a sharp decline in homicides.

This why when Trump warns of murderers coming over the border to rape and kill us in our sleep (as he did yesterday at the border) we need to ignore it. And why when guys like @HellToupee and @Maximum Overkill spend all their time focusing on the tiny number of violent crimes committed by undocumented immigrants, we need to question their obsession and motives. The stories they are posting are truly awful. But, same as I tell my liberal friends about mass shootings, they don’t represent a widespread concern: Not by percentage.

Yesterday I expressed real concern over the recent Monmouth and other polls which suggested that Americans had placed the border crisis as their #1 voting priority: if true this is not good for Joe Biden. 

But this morning I read an opinion piece that argued against that: it pointed out that the uptick here is mostly among conservatives, who always cared more about this issue but now place it at the top of their agenda. Democrats and independents saw some uptick and not much. In other words it’s still not going to be a motivating factor in November except for those planning on voting for Trump anyhow. So my concerns may have been overstated. I hope so. I also hope that many Americans will be as turned off by the ugly rhetoric coming from Trump and the right on this issue as I am.

That is unlikely. People love to hate and immigrants are a very easy and helpless target there. Even the supposed Christians, love thy neighbor and all that … they say well they aren’t my focking neighbor and it better stay that way!

Biden will lose the immigration issue, it doesn’t matter. The perception is republicans are strong on that and democrats are weak. No amount of analysis is going to countermand that.

To me the real issue is the economy. It’s been gangbusters for years now. Should spell easy victory for Biden. But for some reason Americans have been very slow to believe their eyes on it. And extreme negativity is the American way now

Yeah it’s sad. I agree with you that people love to hate. I never have so I don’t get the mindset but it’s certainly there. 
I also reluctantly agree that the perception about Republicans being “strong” on immigration, and Democrats “weak” is probably here to stay. It’s so untrue and especially false when it comes to Trump. I’ll keep on trying to point out the actual facts even if it’s essentially pounding my head against a wall.

Navalny’s funeral was this morning. Thousands showed up. Hundreds were arrested and the Russian police took down the names of everyone who came. They will probably all be arrested at some point, and many murdered. All on the orders of the man Trump openly admires and wants to emulate as President.

Again total BS.  You are making assumptions based upon a strong media bias which endlessly drumbeats for war.  There has not been a war since WWII in which our media has not exaggerated the case for war with one-sided propaganda.   In many cases it was our crappy covert actions which put horrendous puppet governments in place which lead to the revolts and anti-American sentiment.  

In the case of Ukraine, when you dig deeper the war was not as unprovoked as the our propaganda media keeps drilling into our heads.  We had numerous secret CIA bases in Ukraine on the Russian border spying on them for over a decade.  These bases still provide intelligence to Ukraine to help direct missile attacks.  The policy of a neutral Ukraine was the key concession in the Soviet Union breaking up.  The US has used Zelenskyy to break this promise and move towards getting Ukraine into NATO.  We could end this war anytime if we simply negotiated for Ukraine neutrality.  But the US will not allow that to happen, so this proxy war continues resulting in hundreds of thousands dead.  

Putin is a greedy ruthless dictator, but yet still more trustworthy than China which is quickly building an arsenal which will be bigger and more technically advanced than ours.  China is far more ideologically driven by communistic and anti-western ideals.   China is hellbent on world domination.  Putin is a self-serving bastard,  but loves to enrich himself through capitolism and embraces western culture.  

Our Ukrainian proxy war with Russia is the biggest waste of money and human life since the Iraq war.  But since American soldiers are not the ones coming home in body bags, the media can largely ignore the brutality of it and keep cheerleaders for it.

And as far as Navalny (who waa almost certainly a CIA operstive) goes, it is funny how upset our media is over that, but they were highly sympathetic to Ukraine putting a ransome on Tucker's head.

It’s really sad. In previous posts you’ve made it clear that you admire Trump for being a “tough guy”. You approve of what he plans to do about undocumented immigrants even though that will be a gross violation of civil liberties if it happens. I have posted study after study that demonstrates the exact opposite. Facts do matter. @TimHauck is essentially correct; we need them to keep prices low. It’s true that right now they’re coming in too quickly in too large numbers so we need to contain that, but in the long run the fact that they are a positive has been proven again and again and again. 

If you don’t believe me ask yourself this question: why in all the years of conservative proposals on this subject, including from Trump, there has never been a push to punish employers for hiring undocumented immigrants? If you truly wanted to get rid of them, punishing the employers, particularly the large agriculture companies, would surely be the fastest way: fines and jail time. Yet this has never happened. Why is that? What does it tell you?

I wasn’t being smug, The recent focus on undocumented immigrants as mostly violent angry criminals is not only false, it’s a form of bigotry IMO, and fuels xenophobia and the sort of Trumpian divisiveness which I despise. Frankly it terrifies me. I am relieved to see any pushback against it. There’s no smugness involved.
