Maximum Overkill 1,884 Posted September 11, 2024 I was on what was Fort Dix at the time, not far from the attack. We went on high alert and locked down. We thought we were next.
MikeMatt 49 Posted September 11, 2024 I was in the Trade Center the prior Sunday - Windows of the World - restaurant- knew a lot of the staff there - a lot of them lost their lives that day. There was an old ladies club breakfast that Tuesday.

I was in a C++ class and everyone stopped paying attention and the teacher was oblivious as we were all looking to see if it was real or not. The websites were all freezing up because of the volume. Fireballer 2,641 Posted September 11, 2024 It feels weird, like it’s importance has diminished. So many people who are adults now weren’t even born. I guess it’s the same way with Pearl Harbor or D Day. Most people who were old enough to understand it are dead and now it’s just a day pre-printed on your Hallmark calendar. I still take the morning of memorial day to go visit someone I know who may not know much about WW2, and bring a bottle of whisky and chat about it. Yep, early morning visit to have a drink and chat. It's always welcome believe it or not.
Hawkeye21 2,390 Posted September 11, 2024 I was in my apartment, freshman year of college. Was getting ready to go to class. Turned on the TV and saw coverage of the first building in smoke and watched the second plane hit during live coverage. Nothing has come close to making me feel the way I did in that moment. supermike80 1,874 Posted September 11, 2024 We were at work. Guy had a radio on and we heard the first and second hits. Internet was slow and nothing would load. Our office went to a local bar that had a TV and watched the towers fall. Every time I drive by that bar(which has changed names many times) I remember that day.
Twinsdad 53 Posted September 11, 2024 I was on the way into the office when a co-worker called and said a plane just flew into the World Trade Center. We had one of these VCR carts with a TV on top and setup some rabbit ears on it and a bunch of us were watching when the second plane hit. Spent most of that day around the TV, not much work getting done.

MikeMatt 49 Posted September 11, 2024 I went to sleep 9/10 pissed that Ed McCaffery (sp??) broke his leg on MNF not knowing the next day would make me forget about Fantasy Football and the Giants.
MLCKAA 563 Posted September 11, 2024 Was walking across the bridge from my company’s private garage to the office building. Dude walking toward me told me a plane hit a tower in NYC. Assumed it was something like a cessna and a building I wouldn’t have known. By the time I got to security at the entrance, no one was even paying attention to who was coming in the building. It took my breath away when I watched the collapse on live TV. Part of my heart still has not healed to this day.

Yeah, when the attacks started my first thought was that McCaffrey's broken leg is not important at all...

Not me. I worked all 9/11 on my team and let the distracted fools ignore their teams and the waiver wire. Won big that year.

I remember McC’s leg flopping around like a fish on that play but had no idea that was the day before 9/11.

TheNewGirl 1,440 Posted September 11, 2024 Hubs worked nights, so he had just gotten home from work and I was still in bed. He came in and woke me up to tell me something was happening and I got up just after the first plane hit. Watch the second plane and the buildings collapsing. I remember yelling out, "Holy shiiite the building is falling!" and hubs didn't believe me, said was just a lot of smoke. You couldn't really see anything other than the dust and smoke, but I was just like, "The top is gone, look, it's falling." And then the news announced it had fallen. I sat there just in awe. I remember that day like yesterday. I can rarely watch anything about it now, upsets me every time.

Then news about the pentagon came across and I remember someone saying we're under attack we better be scrambling to defend all other targets and our coastline. Surreal.
