Before I forget, I'm golfing with Bert tomorrow, he and his wife are in town.  This will be our third meetup I think; once here, the other in Vegas when we happened to be there at the same time.  Wednesday, we and our wives are going to a good local steakhouse for dinner.   

Anyway, I don't remember that thread, but it reminds me of something I meant to post upthread when somebody mentioned Bavaria.  In college and shortly thereafter, I only drank crap beer because I didn't know any better.  So if I did go to Union Bay, I'm sure I drank Bud or something pathetic.  That all changed when I went to Bavaria as part of a Munich work trip and the local marketing guy took us to Andechs Abbey.

I figured when in Rome errr... Bavaria, and tried some super dark, alcoholic, nectar of the gods.  I was like Barney with his first beer on the Simpsons.

Looks like it was completed in 1423, so probably the oldest building I've drunk in, although there was an awesome restaurant in Rome built on a buried Jewish synagogue called Spirito Divino, if anyone goes to Rome (they used it remains for their wine cellar)

That's awesome that you're meeting up with Bert. He, TRF, Jetdoc, Farmer Bernie and I have had a group text going for years. Jackal (R.I.P.) was in there for a bit. Lots of food porn and drinkin' pics in that group text. Lol.

 Legends in Nashville Tennessee. Behind it’s the original Grande Ole Opry (the Ryman Theater) . Johnny  Cash made it famous. Very interesting history.

As reporter for the Pasadena newspaper, I had to go in and find out whether the place was closing. That would have been a huge story back then.

As it turns out, they were just replacing the sign, but I did buy a six pack of Gilley's beer, figuring that might be worth some money down the line if unopened.

That six pack is sitting atop the fridge in my garage as we speak.

Somehow over the years, all the beer inside disappeared, despite the cans never opened.

The oldest haunt in Houston, La Carafe wine bar is less a ghost than a piece of living history, a timeless challenge to the contemporary nightclub scene.

Located near the northern end of downtown Houston, the cozy candle-lit tavern hasn't changed much in more than 125 years. The bar is similar to those in New York City from the same era: intimate and low lit, exuding a warmth and character that comes with the passage of time.

La Carafe serves only wine and beer and can only ring you up on its now antique cash-only register. The diverse jukebox complements the atmosphere with immortal tunes from Edith Piaf, Django Reinhart and Hank Williams.  There is seating outside and the upstairs and balcony are open on weekend nights and the view of the Houston skyline from the balcony is not to be missed.

 Cooter Browns here. Fun place that has raw oysters and beers from across the globe. I’ve never been to a bar quite like it. Fascinating place. 
 

 The Cadillac Bar in Houston. Best frozen margaritas I’ve ever had and a side of a shot they call a Mexican Flag. They light it up and you suck it up with a straw. They uil girl dressed up in this black leather outfit with a double holster with tequila on one side and some sort of mix on the other.When you shoot it she shakes your head and screams “ahh yaw yah yah ahh!!!” Very hot.
