I would also venture to guess that most of the posts in this thread are not even about Lamar Jackson specifically. You're failing to realize that you had 1 poster enter this thread and immediately cry racism (followed by another usual suspect doing the same) and much of the following 4-5 pages of posts are a discussion on if Edjr was being racist / why pointing out something about a person doesn't automatically equal racism / etc etc etc. rather than people piling on Lamar Jackson. I didn't even watch any of the posted clips, for example. My interest in this topic was to discuss why starting a thread about someone who happens to be black, makes the poster racist, which I find absolutely ridiculous. There is no "sounding like you". I would venture to guess that we have some people at the geek club who sound like uneducated hicks.  and I know there are some pretty dumb ones. Weepaws can barely type coherent english sentences, for example. No one would ever call me racist for pointing that out.... But if I started a post calling you dumb, the resident race baiters would be right there calling me a racist.
peenie 1,896 Posted January 19 Here are 2 rappers: Uncle Luke from 2 Live Crew and Trick Daddy and a classic rap song that came out the same year Lamar Jackson was born. All 3 were raised in the same metropolitan area (I think) in southern Florida and have a similar dialect and accent.  If anyone has read what I wrote and still canât understand my point of view of why calling a black person with a southern accent dumb and didnât graduate kindergarten despite that person having a college degree and a career that requires intellect: a career formally denied to blacks for the exact reason that blacks didnât have the intelligence to be a QB and Lamar Jackson manages to lead his team to the playoffs year after year⌠If you still canât understand why itâs racist, you may need to step away from this topic and revisit it 10 to 20 years from now when your ego is ready to accept that itâs racism that makes you think itâs okay to call a black man dumb who clearly is not dumb. That only racism makes you think he sounds dumb.

Gepetto 1,285 Posted January 20 Peenie, you're attributing comments about one specific person, Lamar Jackson, who is black, and taking that as a statement on all black people. That is a stereotype. jerryskids 6,546 Posted January 20 I think that peenie has a point; I've learned that I do indeed equate "speaking differently" with stupidity. I would argue that I don't consider it "racism" though, as I think the same thing about pasty white chowds from Bahstahn. I think I'm more of a "differentist" than "racist"

Their own words keep reinforcing the perception of their racism.   Lamar Jackson was insulting and degrading this fan by calling him an âmfâ who wasnât man enough to play football and saying all he does is âeat .â That says Jackson thinks eating is unmanly and deliberately used it as an insult, something gay men have faced, like, forever. Therefore, itâs homophobic. (I like this phrasing from a gay person: âTo get down on your knees and put another guyâs in your mouth, is, to a lot of straight men, the most degrading and disgusting thing they could think of.â) Jackson could have thrown out a whole bunch of other non-homophobic insults, but he resorted to a gay slur as what he saw as the f-you capper to his tweet. And deleting it shows Jacskon knows he crossed a line.
peenie 1,896 Posted January 20 For those of you who watched Breaking Bad, would you make fun of the way he speaks or say he sounds like he didnât graduate kindergarten or that listening to him makes you feel dumber? I doubt you would. Why? Because you know he has a physical ailment that affects his speech. You have been taught not to make fun of handicapped people. Iâd argue that prior to the 80âs and political correctness, bullies made fun of kids with disabilities. Do you know there are schools that talented high school athletes go to that helps them become better players AND teaches them how to speak?  These schools are preparing these kids so they can get endorsements and how to handle themselves during interviews, etc. So there are kids that you are unaware have been trained and practiced how to speak. A lot of talented athletes come from disadvantaged backgrounds and have not had the money like some kids to help them sound polished. For some reason itâs not okay to make fun of the way that Breaking Bad actor speaks. You wouldnât start a thread about him being dumb. Yet, despite you know LJ has a southern accent that he didnât manufacture. Iâm sure he sounds like his family members. For some reason you feel itâs perfectly okay and a free for all to make fun of LJ but youâd hold your tongue about that Breaking Bad actor. Yet both are simply a product of the life they were born into. Society has said donât make fun of the disabled but itâs still okay to make fun of the urban accent and claim itâs a sign of stupidity instead of the unique history of blacks and isolation. I donât care that he went to the best schools, he went as a tool for the school not to get a great education. I donât know a damn thing about LJ or his character. Iâm just discussing him to address you all making fun of the way he speaks.
