Have you ever broken a bone ?

Recommended Posts

I have never broken a bone which is fairly amazing considering all the full force, pick up tackle football we played growing up and through our early 20s. Guys broke arms, legs, orbital bones…

I'm not answering this because if I answer it honestly I'll have 10 broken bones by sundown.  I ain't tempting the Gods.

No. My son shattered his wrist a couple years back. Was tough to see how much pain he was in. I had to go to the school to pick him up. He didn't cry, but my god was he in agony. He even said to me "Dad, are you happy I'm not crying"  I said. FOCK YES! Thank god he's not a whiny little liberal bastage

So no. Let’s keep the Gods at bay.

This. I only broke a pinky finger trying to catch a ball one day.

I partially shattered and dislocated my knee the first time I went skiing as a teenager. Some super douche in a tight ski suit and helmet cut me off at the top of a hill and instead of flattening him, I tried to be nice and took a fall. I mean I'd spent half that day on my ass, what's another trip to the ground?

Pop! Crack!

I learned that day that when someone cuts you off on the slopes, you plow right into the sumbitch and spread the pain; maybe throw an elbow or fist into his ribs on the way to the ground. Fock that guy. Still love skiing, though.

My elbow.

Was out training for the California International Marathon and fell.

Fell at mile 6 of an 18 mile training run. Knew something was wrong when I went to go push a cross walk button and had no strength in my thumb, I'd run and get little weird twinges of pain but nothing intolerable.

Finished my run. Got into my car and couldn't turn the key with my right hand/arm. Got home and couldn't remove my sports bra.

Hubs was out at a pub crawl/concert, so I had to call a friend to take me to ER. I was also on blood thinners at the time, so the ER visit was mandatory.

Sure enough, radial head fracture near my elbow. No cast, just a sling for a few weeks, then slowly moving it to get full ROM back.

Still trained and ran my race. :)

The worst was two Jones fractures in the same foot.  The name refers to a specific spot near the 5th metatarsal (pinky toe bone), around the middle of the foot, that for some reason gets very little blood flow, so takes forever to heal.  The first time it happened, I landed on the side of my foot during taekwondo. I had screws and a plate put in, then rolled on a kneelie-wheelie thing for 3 months.  A few months after they took out the plate, so that the bone could grow stronger and not atrophy from lack of use.  That was a fail -- six months later it broke again, this time from much less trauma.  Luckily I recognized it right away and didn't walk on it, and I managed to avoid surgery.  Still had no weight on it for a while.

Decades later I still occasionally feel something off in that area, which I've come to think (hope) is scar tissue and/or an imperfect heal.

To this day, I won't draft a guy in fantasy who had this break.  It happened to Julio Jones (name is a coincidence), twice I believe.  He was never the same afterward.

I've also had a broken toe and a chip fracture (forget the name) in my wrist.  The toe was from bashing a wall turning a corner, and hurt worse at the time than any of them.

Nothing crazy.  2 fingers playing sports.  1 toe.

Thought I broke a rib once.  Was just bruised.   That sucked anyway.  2 years ago went down like a sac of potatoes on ice.
