DEI Destroyed Quarterback Play in the NFL ---

Recommended Posts

i don't think it's dei, rather gm's/coaches trying to get an edge with duel threat qb's (often AA). they seem get injured more frequently as it invites contact (though we'll see pocket passers take a beating as well), and are less accurate.

I agree, but also have to mention the elimination of the fullback position. Spread offense football is okay when a few teams do it. When the entire league does it, it makes for crappy football.

Awful take by this Uncle Tom.

15 mins more than I'll watch.

I'm assuming the accusation is teams are trying to play inferior black QBs which is absurd.

i've always just attributed it to the athleticism these guys use to dominate HS and college and it just usually doesn't translate to the NFL. In HS, they were the best QB, RB, WR, DB on the entire team. In college they could have likely succeeded at another position as well but their dual threat ability made them most valuable as a QB. A few go on to be Lamar Jackson (overrated but very talented),  but most don't because the talent/athleticism gap decreases so much at the pro level. Inaccuracy, inability to read defenses, etc really shows.

First he said people are obsessed with Shadeur Samders but not Josh Allen or Stafford because SS is black … completely ignoring that basically all the Samders talk is negative.

Then he pulled up a chart of black QB win / loss %, even though a lot of the QBs on his list are backups or rookies (Brissett, Cam) and W/L is a pretty dumb way to judge quarterbacks.

Basically they found a black guy to play Uncle Tom and validate the bigotries of his audience.

The guy’s day job is probably wearing a jockey uniform and holding a lantern on some white dude’s lawn.

Yeah, this might be a leading candidate for dumbest thread of the year.

Has Jason Whitlock always been a whackjob? I thought I recalled him being an enjoyable sports reporter/ talking head at one point, but I may have confused him with another DEI talking head. I'll skip the video.

This is an interesting point. We've already seen teams "revert" back to the run game at a higher % this season than in the recent past. I'm anticipating a time in the next couple years in which a few teams move to heavier personnel more regularly. The FB might be sort of an outdated term, I'm thinking more of the versatile Gibbs-type H-Back that can play all over the field blocking, catching and occasionally even running. Mixing a couple guys like that into the offense while the defense is playing dime with smaller personnel could wreak some havoc.

This is what I want to see make a comeback.

Hell yeah! That's the first name I thought of too. I remember when Alstott and Brees played at Purdue and I loved both of them even though they regularly smoked Minnesota. Then I continued loving both of them even though they were prolific Viking killers.

If you're old enough to remember the Joe Gibbs/ Dan Henning/ Joe Bugel Redskins, their offense was a beautiful thing. Can't believe more teams don't try to emulate that today.

Isn’t “hiring inferior people” the entire basis of the right’s issue with DEI?  So either

1) that is what he’s saying

or

2) he’s lying by saying it’s DEI

I did not watch video and no I cant see how people use phrase DEI here.

The running QB became viable when the league got softer and softer.

I find it less enjoyable to watch but you basically need to have some legs in todays game because a lot of it is gimmie yardage.

I watched the Eagles 2 weeks ago.  Hurts didnt run exactly, but falls back jump passes at last second with a guy right on him leaving himself totally exposed....yet knowing the defender wont be driving him through the ground.  In 2005 Hurts is hurt on that play all day.

"I remember when people tweeted this stuff about Colorado's offensive line. Shedeur shows up and teammates get thrown under busses. Shedeur Sexuals have a pattern," Whitlock tweeted.

Superstar: Browns rookie QB Shedeur Sanders has the 10TH MOST PRO BOWL VOTES among all QBs in the NFL.

Shedeur had only two starts but has proven to fans that he's a Top quarterback in the league.

He even has more votes than Bo Nix.

Correct about Sanders.

Sanders is a social media creation. Sanders might be a decent QB one day but why he gets so much attention makes zero sense.

Yes, John Riggins behind the Hogs.  It was a thing of... OK, not beauty exactly, but it was hella effective.

LOL, yeah, describing it as beautiful may have been a mistake. But it was stupendous. Big but athletic Oline, bruising RBs, versatile TEs and HBacks, dangerous WRs and QBs and coaches ready to challenge the defense vertically.

That 1991 Redskins team, IMO, was the most dominant single season I've ever seen in the NFL. Go look up the stats if you don’t believe me. They don't get mentioned with the all time teams because it wasn't a traditional dynasty. But for that one year, they absolutely demolished the league.

Preach.  Glad to see people recognize a race hustle when they see it.  Too bad it only seems to be recognizable one way.

I applaud Whitlock for getting rich by being the "one black friend" of so many white football fans.
