If Im getting a truck I want a full sized truck. I dont qant a small bed.. to me that is useless and you might as well not get a truck. Like the sport model trucks, dont get those what so ever.

A kid I grew up with had a beautiful deep red f 150. So it was nice lookin But he hauls nothing. We asked him to give us a ride with our canoe and he basically wouldnt for fear of a scratch. If you asked him for help moving furniture....nah.

Only really ghey status seekers drive trucks and dont use them as trucks. If you want to be a prissy little girl with a shiney vehicle then get a car. I always laugh when I see these big bad trucks on the road, shiney as hell all detailed. I really cant stand driving vehicles for status. More than anything trucks that you dont utilize. Guys who cant even use a hammer will buy these big ol trucks and not use them.

I agree. Trucks are utilitarian, and should only be used when hauling things or off-roading. Not as daily drivers.

Everything runs for 100k+ miles nowadays. The superior quality of Honda and Toyota is no longer actual, it is just perceived and reputation at this point. Ford, Chevy, and Dodge have all wised up and now build quality vehicles. In fact, I would say that as the domestics have gotten better in quality, Toyota and Honda have slid a little bit.

This is fairly accurate. Just about any vehicle is reliable nowadays.

Again not saying you arent happy with a Toyota truck you may have or had.

But what years? Any new ranking have the Tundra last and the Tacoma maybe not last but never in the top 2 of smaller pickups. Both classes seem more expensive than Ford Chevy Ram GMC. Both classes seem tohave the worst MPG of its class.

So what are we basing this off? Im just looking at reviews which seem consistant. I dont test drive trucks each year or put them through test and I'm sure no one else here does.

Depends what types of reviews...predicted or actual reliability and so on over the years. Historically and what I have drive...I have preferred the Tacoma over other midsized trucks and they seem to rate pretty well.

Ive seen that awful Honda Ridgeline rated well...but have driven it and looked at it and its one of the worst to me. Ford doesn't really make one anymore. The Colorado is ok to me. The Dodge was decent though. Have not tried out any nissans lately.

Id rather test drive and read up when Im ready...but I don't let everyone else's opinion sway me much.

Then look at dependability ratings among brands (not just trucks but overall company) and Toyota is typically near the top.

I just don't think its all crazy to drive and/or like a Toyota truck as some are making it out to be.

Hell the Toyota Tundra I bought was made right here in America. It was made in the city I bought it. San Antonio, Tx. Toyota makes a great truck. Fords are what I hear the most complaints about for being sh1tty and breaking all the time

Thing was designed here, engineered here, and built here. I think 2014 it was rated more American than the Chevy and Dodge.

Ford has beat it out...though, they also count Canada in there and I think the Ford had a bit from Canada.

Get a Honda fit or toyota yaris if you want a cheap quality vehicle.

This. My Fit is most* everything I was expecting - peppy, roomy, great on gas, and so far nothing major has gone wrong with it.

And AIDS

This is unfair. Yes, owning one has directly led to me having a lot of unprotected sex with strange men, but I have not been tested since buying it, so this is really jumping the gun.

Best is relative.

I once had a Honda truck that was very useful and dependable, but uncomfortable as hell for anyone over 6'0" tall.

*This seems to be the case for the Fit, too. :( The test drive was not nearly enough to realize it, but the driver's seat doesn't provide enough upper leg support and puts you at a weird angle to the pedals, making the gas pedal feel way too "soft" and causing you to have to hold your foot up when not using it or pressing it lightly. On long drives you can definitely experience "shin fatigue" (cruise control is a must) and lower back stiffness. (This is a problem, as I like to drive around aimlessly.) Lots of talk about this on the Fit forums, and I'm trying some of their modifications before giving up on it. But yeah, really bad design which seems to stretch across Honda models.

I drive an older Honda Civic and I am 6'1" and do not have any problems. I even have another inch that i could slide the seat back.

We are driving the civic 700 miles with a 2 year old in a few days. I will probably wish i had a homermobile or at the very least a minivan.

Foot and leg angles were a definite problem for me on the Ridgeline

The left foot platform position and angle aggravated my plantar fasitis so badly that I had to take my shoe off whenever I drove it. Severely annoying.

However, I also has a 2007 Accord that was much more comfortable.

Timely thread. We're looking for a gently used mid-sized SUV to replace my wife's 2001 Suburban (so, a little smaller but still 3 rows). Went and looked at a few, Didn't like the Honda Pilot interior, at least the ones we saw. Liked the Highlander with the Limited or XLE (?) higher packages. GMC Acadia looked worth considering. Acura MDX was nice and, while more expensive, not as much more as I expected. Probably still more than we want to spend.

Thoughts or experiences?

One that intrigued us that we hadn't planned to look at was a Buick Enclave. Sux or anyone else -- opinions? Nice interior and overall look. They had a 2014 with 29K miles for $28K, loaded. I think we'd be looking at $7-10K more for a comparable Highlander. Wife had last one 15 years (bought it new). I've never really considered a Buick but the dealer sorta positioned it behind Cadillac in the GM luxury hierarchy.

TIA$#@!

I'm looking at Toyota Highlanders currently. Trying to decide between new vs 1-3 years old. Problem is people seem to like them so there aren't a lot of used options out there

We had some inventory, although the Toyota lot sorta turned us off -- most of the cars didn't have prices or infos, so I guess you needed the help of a salesperson. Only in our 20 minutes of walking and looking we were never approached by one. We bought an old Corolla there for our kids to share which was a great purchase experience though.

Very little Acadia or Enclave inventory. Could just be because a lot more Highlanders are out there. :dunno:

Very popular with uber drivers. Keeps inventory for used ones low

Thanks. Why?

Also Sux, what about the GMC Acadia? I presume you will highly endorse the Highlander.

I didn't like the Highlander, but mostly because the local Toyota dealership is a cattle factory, you wait forever, you get a twerp that gives you a script for 15min before looking at a car, and they didnt stock a single limited model to compare it to the competition.

It was also smaller inside than it looked and the interior was spartan

I liked the Explorer and MDX the best, even though they were very different SUVs, both are borderline 3row (kid seating). Durango is also a pretty decent package.

The problem seems to have started in 2008, so you just made the cut there.

Here's an artist's rendition of me (6'2") driving my Fit. :( You can see that my weight is concentrated on my butt, and that I have to hold my foot up over the gas pedal. Seat height is not adjustable, and the steering wheel doesn't telescope. Either of those things would help. This car was made for a family of small, well-behaved Asians.

because he rides a bike and eats kale

It ain't just when I'm riding a bike. Trucks waste gas and take up too much space, blocking the view of everyone around them. Plus full size truck drivers, on average, are amongst the dooshiest on the road.

It's not just about how long engines go. I have a 2006 Tundra with 130k and it literally does not have a single rattle despite being used off road fairly regularly. I traded in a 98 F150 with 115k for it. There were times I thought the dash was going to fall right off that Ford. It also had multiple major electrical issues. I've never had any of these types of issues with my Tundra. That's not even to mention the 60k head gasket replacement due to a mismanufactured head.

I own 4 Toyotas and would own 5 if we hadn't stupidly traded my wife's first Camry on her second. Wish we had kept it for our younger daughter.

The only real Truck options are the following:

Ford F150

Chevy Silverado

Ram 1500

Each have lots of different trim levels and special editions to choose from with a wide range of prices, and you get several thousand off on any of them.

Read up on each and test drive each. Eliminate all others. Who the fock buys a Toyota, Honda, or Mercedes Truck? LOL

I do. I drove my first one (2004 Double Cab purchased in 2005) for almost 10 years and traded it in (248,000 miles) on my 2013 Crew Max (Purchased 2015). Great trucks all around.

Who buys a Toyota truck? A lot of people, they make great trucks.

Tundras are some of the best trucks around HTH

Toyota or Honda are the best and most reliable.

Hyundai and Kia are cheap but be careful of the "mandatory" maintenance required to keep the 100k warranty... some of their "routine" and required maintenance (40k, 60k, 100k, etc) can bee nearly $1000 and if you don't have the "maintenance" done, the warranty is void.

Chevy? want to like them... but everytime I fold and "buy American" I end up with buyer's remorse... from overall engine/reliability/performance to annoying ergonomic designs (ex. can't use the phone charger and cup holder at the same time) - they just always fall short of Toyota and Honda.

It also seems like the entry-level Toyotas and Hondas have far more amenities and features than their American competitors - you don't have to buy a premium trim package to get a few extras on your vehicle.

Plus almost every new truck is pretty damn close to zero emmisions.

He's also wrong about the mileage on newer ones.

The future is smaller engines, GDI with single or dual turbos.

Forgot about this thread...Give you more info tomorrow.

Much appreciated.

Topics of interest:

- Why avoid the Enclave?

- Thoughts on the GMC Acadia?

- Is the Highlander really worth $7K-10K more? Acknowledging that my wife will drive it for at least 10 years, longer if it still drives well.

- Thoughts on a new Highlander? Because they retain value, the new ones aren't THAT much more, and dealerships are doing 0% deals.

Same on Acura MDX?

ETA: How are Gigi's funbags these days?

Thanks again!

Sux, what do you think about the Chevy Traverse?

I would say it depends on which year Traverse, you are interested in.

You guys have to know that I don't get the vehicles in my shop until 3-5 years after new .

What GM has done with the "new" GDI technology (been around for 60 years) is kinda bad.

The high pressure fuel pumps they use are prone to failure.

Seriously, don't listen to me. Mebbe they have fixed it and I don't know about it. :dunno:

One great thing about my underpaying job is the tech aspect that I'm supposed to know / learn.

This sh1t just fascinates the fock out of me

I didn't mention emissions, but can you clarify: are you saying newer full-size trucks have comparable mileage to a typical sedan? If true, that still doesn't negate trucks impairing other motorists' view and truck driver dooshiness.

The future is EV.
