Conversation With God, Book 1. Very spiritual and inspirational, even if the author may have made it all up.

The Things They Carry by Tim O'Brien

I read it in college then experienced it first hand. Very insightful book.

I would get him a life time subscription to Maxim magazine. Everything a young man needs to know is right there in the pages of that great magazine!

Technically not a "book," but an excellent read nonetheless. I did a paper on it in Comp II. Great story.

It's difficult to pick just ONE because there are so many, for so many levels of childhood maturity. Hence,

The Little Engine That Could has a great messageon perserverence for early childhood.

The Outsiders, excellent social commentary for teens.

Go Ask Alice, excellent anti-drug message.

Charlotte's Web, excellent all-around kid's story.

The Oxford English Dictionary.

I figure all the other books are contained within it.

The Complete Calvin and Hobbes.

I was going to say Playboy's Girls of the ACC. But C&H is good choice too.

Hmm..what kind of human would be created by reading The Bible and nothing else in their lifetime?

..I think it might resemble Pat Robertson, actually.

We're all getting warmed it. The forum has been down for a while so don't look for people to be on their A game so soon.

Mein Kampf

A world where children are only allowed to read one book is a nazi-facist nightmare, so I might as well train the little bastard appropriately.

ETA: I posted this without reading the thread. Holy crap someone else already picked Mein Kampf.
