The greatest dog/friend/companion that anyone could ever ask for. He will be missed terribly.

Beautiful dog. Sorry for your loss. What was the cause?

Thanks. The vet said that he had an issue with the back of his spinal column. He had been struggling with walking for a couple of days and today he couldn't move his hind legs at all or support himself any longer. It wasn't displacia but it was another issue that actually attacks the nerves in the spinal column.

Poor guy was suffering horribly..

Well, try to take comfort in knowing he isn't suffering anymore.

T&P's.

If you will allow me a GFIAFP moment:

I got Rex while living in Cincy shortly after my divorce. My son insisted that I have a dog so that I wouldn't be lonely. Rex was 8 weeks old when I bought him. He was the greatest. He didn't bark at all though he did chew up a couple of couches. The funny thing was that he knew when he did something wrong. I came home one day and he had tore hell out of a pillow. I looked around and saw him over in a corner, as far away from the door as possible, with his head hidden between his 2 front legs. He glanced up and saw me and then put his head back down... He always did this when he did something wrong. How can you get mad at that? He also was a chick magnet. I lived in an apartment complex and there was this HOT chick who had a Yellow Lab. We had a yard area between our two complexes where we could walk the dogs. Everyday when I got home this chick would release her dog and the dog would bolt to my sliding glass door until I let Rex out. Then the 2 dogs would take off and play while I tried to hit on the hot chick...

When I remarried Rex was great with my new step-children. He immediatly helped us become one big family... Great Great Dog.

Doing the right thing is always the hardest thing to do. I had to put down one of my dogs a while back. I found comfort in doing work for a rescue group for her breed. Transport, foster. That sort of thing. Helping save good animals helped me.

Damn dude, sorry for your loss. A pet becomes a part of the family, and their loss is hard to deal with. T&P!

Sorry for your loss. It sucks right now, but it doesn't erase ten years of great memories.

Thanks. Sorry about the can size. Tough day. Solid 36C's. Thin chick with a great rack. Her dog's name was Hefenweisen. Unfortunantly she was engaged and got married during our stay there. She was cool as hell though. Huge Buckeyes fan.

Many a hug to you and yours. The loss of a pet, esp. a great one, is hard.

My dad lost his "hunting buddy" a few years ago...yellow lab named Dee-dee. Got her when I was 13 and she died maybe 4 years ago??? She was 13 years old, which is great for a hunting dog (takes a lot out of them). I sincerely don't think I cried so much over the loss of a pet. It was very hard.

Thanks. This was tough. THe vet allowed me to stay with him for a while by myself. I was sitting on the floor stroking his head and talking to him. He mustered the strength to raise his head and sit it on my lap. That was tough. Then he was able to raise his front paw so I could scratch him on his belly one last time. I talked to him the whole time. The toughest thing was leaving the room. He watched me leave but you could tell he was in a lot of pain. I think he knew and I think he was o.k. with it. I hope so anyway.

My back yard looks so empty tonight.

I have cried exactly twice in my life that I remember. Once, when my son was close to death, the other when my dog was run over after neighbor kids let her out of my yard and she tried to follow my wife walking to church. I know what you are going thru.

T&P's man. Wish I could tell you that you can ever forget...........

Guess the best thing I can say is that not everyone gets to know what the complete devotion, unconditional and total love that a good dog will give you is something that not everyone gets to experience. You were blessed to be one of them. It does not change the pain, but it does help to know how very lucky you were. HTH

I guess there always has to be one...

"Just an animal" does not do justice to a companion and another living entity that is capable of feeling and giving love.

Don't be a ######.

He will be there when you get there. Just like Boomer will be there when I get there. Along with Ben,Wolf,Danny,Queen,Jack,Penny and Lil Mutt. Empty back yards are great for puppies.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It's always tough losing a pet, especially when he's been with you for so long. I'm sure you have plenty of good times to remember him by.
