Unfortunately the damage is done

Recommended Posts

Well kids, the election is over. Like it or hate it, we now have Barack Obama as President for the next term.

Many of you will be upset, many excited and happy. I wouldn't be surprised if some of you went away completely, though some will probably stay here.

But alas, I fear the FFT Geek Club discussion board is nothing more than a twisted hunk of metal, a carcass in the desert, a dead fish on the bottom of the sea.

It was horrible and painful to watch many of you take this place to where it is now. Quite embarrassing actually.

This used to be THE place to be. If you wanted a laugh, you came to FFT. If you wanted an early post with a link on something in the news(mostly non-political) this was the place to be. Good pron links. People ribbing each other lightly, with jest and genuine good natured-ness(Guess the Geek). Geeks would figure out ways to meet and have a beer. None of that exists anymore. Not here.

Now, sadly, FFT has become loaded with name calling, vicious, incredible one sided dialogue. I am just as guilty, watching this bored suffocate and die like it did was hard to take, knowing what it once was, made me occasionally post an attempt to stop the madness.

It's no one's fault really. Cant blame FFT Mike, this place was and always has been a free exchange of ideas, he never tried to squelch that. Sure he could have created a poilitical discussion forum, but we all know the extremeness of this place would have broken that wall down, without constant monitoring from Mike, it would have ended up the same

It's a shame, a genuine shame. This place was so great, so fun, so informative. Now, it is a political message board filled with extremests that quickly call you a d!ckhead because your views don't agree with theirs.

Sucks you all ruined this board, sucks a lot. I wonder if it will ever be what it was, doubt it..and that's too bad.

This used to be THE place to be.

...In 2005.

You can't roon what's already dead. Your mourning is 3 years too late.

If anything, at least the erection added some activity.

"What do you think of a board suicide?"

"Frankly, I think it's a good idea."

I find people pining for the "good old days" so boring. Always living life in the past. This bored has always been filled with a certain amount of jerks. I can't believe anyone would get so sentimental about a forum.

Although it has been dead for a while, I agree. The election filled this place with 90% garbage for months. Was real superised to see that many people argue for that long about the same thing, and spending that much of their time doing so. Kinda sad...

Why don't all of the old-timers who think the board sucks now, spend a week or two here and bring it back to greatness?

Let's see how it's done. Any fool can belly-ache about things. Bring the funny. Bring the info. Don't talk it, walk it.

I found the Geek bored in September 2004. Virtually every thread was about politics, torridjoe was in full force... it happens every election. Get over yourself.

Personally it wasn't/isn't the political threads that caused people to leave, it has been the uncertainty of the board staying up and running at optimum speed... With the site going down frequently and being slow at times, that will drive people away quicker than the political threads...

That was the beginning of the end.....Kidding

Maybe you're right, maybe it was this way for longer than I remember, it just seemed WAY crazy this last time.

Whatever, I am an old timer I guess...just like any generation. I will watch the "kids" ruin the board while I tell stories about the "better days"

You glorify the past when the future dries up.

BTW, when you found the board, I was doing all-day cage matches with TorridJoe. There damn sure was tons o' politicking going on in the "good old days".

Agree with Posty. So many times now, I have to decide whether I want to even bother responding when it takes longer to load the page than it does to type the response. Focking ridiculous. Not sure why it's so difficult for this one board - when every other one I hit (unpaid) is just fine.

I remember that fateful day when I was on the mange bored, somebody said once again "take it to the geek bored," and I thought "hmm, I should check that out..." Political threads were rampant, and as you've noticed I'm into politics, so I started debating with some torridjoe guy. Got a couple of "who are you"s and was accused of being an alias for a while, the usual.

Not saying the bored is better now in general, just that in 4 years, if it is still around, it will be the same kind of environment.
