Are you buying all this Avatar hype?

Recommended Posts

I remember when it was first announced, everyone was all stoked about it.

First previews came out, everyone was disappointed.

The medic hype machine is slowly dragging everyone back in this...I just read an article stating that this movie's technology used would change the movie industry forever.

IDK, I'm not buying into this yet. But I probably will catch it in theaters when the crowds die down...

anyone considering going the first day?

I'm gonna wait til word of mouth starts to spread. I gotta hear that it has a great story. You're gonna have to show me more than CGI and 3D or whatever to get my ten bucks.

I don't even think it's worth a rental.

it looks like a complete waste of $400,000,000

Maybe the 3D will be worth seeing? I we'll know soon enough.

James Cameron is a focking genius. He shot it all in a camera HE invented.

I thinked it's being over-promoted ... I just realized this weekend that it hasn't been released yet. Jeez, seems like the commercials have been out for a couple of months now ...

I might see it the first weekend or the second. I usually go to midnight shows for these kinds of movies, but not this time. I'm all hyped out, plus it doesn't seem like the story is all that.

amazing action.

this is why I speculate it will suxor.

the entire movie will be based on "amazing action".

Story? weak

Characters? weak

Plot Development?weak

but the action will be great.

A bunch of characters you don't know anything about, or don't care anything about, zooming around doing all these kick ass action moves for some reason you have no idea of.

hopeI'mwrong.

It'll make a ton of money and people will be all hyped about it "because they're supposed to" and because it looks great and will have tons of action and stuff. But meh, we'll see.

and this is why it may be worth seeing on IMAX. :pointstosky:

Other than that I'm not sure I'm buying into it yet either.

I wasn't interested in it, but then i read how it's the best CGI ever and the action sequences are incredible. I actually heard the plot and story-line were not horrible either.

These types of movies are the ones you go to the movies for imo. The ones that have a complicated, twisted story-line with a flawless plot and great dialog are the ones i like to rent so i can really concentrate on them. The movies with overblown special effects and CGI like 2012, Transformers, and likely this movie are sooooooo much better in the movies for a lot of obvious reasons. Like, i would never watch 2012 again after seeing it, because i know it's the atmosphere of the theater that made it actually awesome to watch. Also Transformers 2 was a terrible movie, but it was the best theater experience of my life.

So i will probably see it and report back :overhead:

Mike's coming out with avatars? :dunno:

That's what I thought, a tongue in cheek way to consider the lack of avatars around here.

I didn't realize there was a movie with that title, I only watch pirated TV so I'm insulated from that sort of hype.

No focking way I am buying the hype. Last time I seen something hyped like this was in that batman movie where the ghey guy played the Joker. All I heard was how great of a performance he put on. I just watched this movie last week and didn't see anything that would give folks that impression. He wasn't horrible or anything, but it was pretty obvious after watching it why folks were so eager to say he put on some brilliant performance, and it had nothing to do with how he played pretend in that movie.

Nope, not buying into it at all. The first preview (extended) I saw of it made it look retarded.

Ferngully : The Last Rainforest ??

Looks like another Hollywood environmental guilt trip laid on the audience. I hope I'm wrong, though, since I'll go see it.

Heath Ledger was greta in that. The movie overall was overhyped however.

heath ledger played a gay character in brokeback mountain, but he wasn't gay...unless you have some insider knowledge you'd like to reveal.

you must admit, even though the character strayed from the true essence of the joker character, heath did a great job.

I will not admit that. I just didn't see what he did that was so focking great. Again, he wasn't horrible or even bad. However, it wasn't this spectacular earth shattering portrayal everyone made it out to be. Way over hyped and it is very obvious why(He died being one of them reasons).

It was the joker character himself, it was such a memorable character than any good actor that got the role would've been remembered forever for the acting. Heath was a good actor, got the role, and mastered it. However, i think there are a high number of other actors that could've also mastered it just as well. By high, i mean like 15-20, maybe less.

And he allegedly was not gay, he played a gay in the gay cowboy movie, but he himself was not. That is like saying Tom Hanks is retarded, gay, and has aids.

Next.

But back on topic...I am actually buying the hype a little bit. I doubt it will be the greatest of all time, but with all the other garbage out there in the theatres these days, I am more than willing to see this.

It looks good, but I fell for the Watchmen hype, and holy hell, that was an absolute sh1t piece of crap.

My kids will probably want to see it, though. What's the word on kids seeing it (9 and 12)?

Why do so many movies nowadays have to be over 2 hours long? 2 hours and 41 minutes?? C'mon...for most movies, that's just too long. You better have an epic story here.

I might be going to see it tonight. If it does suck but is really awesome visually like Revenge of the Fallen, then seeing it at a packed midnight showing would at least make the experience fun.

Ok so it took like 400 mil to make and they were expecting this to possibly flop. Now they are talking of this possibly eclipsing titanics 1.8 bil. If it comes close to that it will be well worth it and will be a blockbuster.

never watched titanic. I prefer the real deal. There are documentaries on the titanic which are infinitely more interesting and real than

some made up silly story. I can suspend my disbelief just fine, but the moment my intelligence is insulted it's over.

Take for example Spiderman. I reluctantly went to see that in theaters with friends. I considered it decent, entertaining. but poorly written

and focusing too much on selling toys to kids. One of my friends who can't help but go to all these 'must see' movies, said that was the best

movie he'd ever seen. ever! yea. ok.

If you want a truly good movie you can watch for free....
