What's the longest you've gone without taking a Mon-Fri off from work?

Recommended Posts

I think a lot of people don't take off or are in constant contact with work even when they do take off because they think it will make them stand out as a hard worker or something. It doesnt, personally i think it makes you look like a kissass.

That may be the case when you are in your early 20's straight out of school. Once you get into managment it is about responsibility and not wanting to work an 80 hour week when you get back.

Not sure, maybe a couple of years. I have a ###### load of banked vacation and get 5 weeks/year. We can not sell it back, so it's use it or lose it. I will not lose it. I tend to use more over the summer and take 3 weeks or so, usually at least 1 of those is a M-F.

Rather work extra for a while and experience life outside work than work consistently and never have a vacation. Then again, I can't stand management/admin work, and chose a job where I don't have to take my work home.

Experience life? Dude I've been to Vegas 4 times this year, spent a week in Key West, spending a week in San Antonio next month, spending Thanksgiving week in Breckenridge and I just got back from a 12 day work trip that included 8 rounds of golf in 3 states.

A lot of companies allow you to sell it back at the end of the year, as long as you've used some during the year. So people will take days here and there to qualify then sell 80 hours in December. That's one hell of a nice Xmas shopping spree.

According to a recent study people who do activities are happier than those that buy material goods. Years from now which would you remember more, a year end bonus or a week long road trip to some national parks?

So it sounds like you're willing to work a few 80 hour weeks. What's there to do at Breck in November?

I almost never buy wifey gifts other than trips or lessons - you'll never regret working less on your deathbed. Or any bed, for that matter.

Probably been 3 years since we took a REAL vacation with the kids its kinda tough but we do lots of extended stuff like this week was "Up North" saturday through Tuesday and I took Friday off to golf. I'm at work work on Wednesday then half day for Tigers game vs Yankees on Thursday, then will work Friday.

So lots of 3-5 day weekends but no 7 dayers in the past few years.

So lots of 3-5

Well now that you (NV) say that you own your own business that us totally understandable. When I owned my own business I was lucky that I had down times so I was able to take my time off. Have a friend that owned a bar and now owns three restaurants as he hasn't taken a day off in 15 years. Never travels.

Don't get me wrong he has PLENTY of free time but even though each location has a manager he needs to be at each one everyday- everyday.

That is just the mind set he has. If he is not there someone is going to steal from him.

Me on my salary job I take my time off - as mentioned it is hard these days to do so without contact with the office but that's ok. A few emails on vacation can't hurt and less stress then when I get back.

If your eyes aren't on bar/restaurant operations 24/7 you are going to robbed blind by your staff... Just the nature of the business. Operationally one of the toughest businesses you can get into... Bars are the absolute worst, restaurants right behind it...

I would guess this is one of the reasons these are the most failed businesses in the country.

The bored crash was the first time I've actually done a week's worth of work. :shocking:

Just got back from Italy and that was 11 days on the trip, 12 days off work.  I take a week 2-3 times per year.

My last job was use it or lose it and they didn't have this buy back option...

It sucked, but the last three weeks of the year I took off...

I get 20 vacation days a year, can only carry over 5.  Have to use at least 15, but the next year, I'd have to use at least 20.  I take them when the best opportunity presents itself.

I’ve taken random days off—didn’t work today. I just haven’t had a week since last summer and ended up working through the Christmas holiday.

As a black male, you shouldn’t be talking about not working. :ninja:

Oh taking a whole week off. I thought you meant not getting in a day. Not quite as bad but still sounds below average!
