Twitter

Recommended Posts

News, sports, comedy.

I mean, what's the point of this message board? What's the point of CNN.com and ESPN.com? What's the point of Facebook? What's the point of television? Radio?

It's all simply communications for the purposes of entertainment or information gathering.

Twitter is the same. But it's new to people so they don't embrace it yet. I use it to gather news from a number of differing sources all in one place, to get breaking sports news and rumors long before they hit the news sites, and for the random laugh as its an outlet for comedians and whatnot to tell jokes.

I started an account to follow various writers, musicians, bands, etc. that I like.

Honestly, I rarely log in. I just find it difficult to impossible to read for two reasons...

1. Reading your twitter feed is like trying to read 500 different conversations going on at once.

2. Twitter seems to have developed its own corrupted dialect of the English language. I don't speak it.

Not a big fan of either, but of the two, I'd take Twit over FB.

Ultimately, I think both are useful for about 1 percent of the population:

1) Teachers trying to share their Europeran (or whatever) vacation with their students.

2) New bands looking to keep in touch with their fans.

3) Celebrities

4) Young families living far away from their extended family.

(probably many more)

But "OMG - Why does life have to be soooooooo hard?" or "Hanging out at Fishbowl with da Brahs! Party!" - Jeegus, seriously, kill me now.

And unfortunately, that's where the technology has taken itself. But, I'm seeing that trend change significantly.

For the oldsters out there, face it: FB is the "Yearbook" of this millenia: "OMG! I've got 149 people who signed my yearbook! (aka "friended" me) I'm SOOOO popoular!" - Get the fock over it. - That's EXACTLY what it is for the majority of FB Phags. - "Dude - did you SEE the pics I just uploaded of us having fun just 2 hours ago?" "Uh, man, I was WITH you, remember? WTF?" :o :o

(And in this case, I mean "Phag" to be gender neutral.)

it's good for aggregating feeds from news sites in one place. I follow other things like a local microbrewery so I can find out when they release new beers and stuff. It's all about knowledge.

Haven't figured it out yet. I got an account to tweet stuff for my consulting business. Then I realized I never log on because if you follow just a few people it is info overload, most of it useless. Then I tweeted a few things, mostly retweets or reposts of stuff I saw. Then people started following me, some of whom I knew. Then I felt some pressure to tweet more stuff. Then I realized that I never log on, so why should I tweet more.

That's about where I am. :dunno:

Honestly, I don't think it is best used by us ordinary folk like us for tweeting. You can get your quips out on Facebook. Twitter is for following organizations, columnists, writers, musicians, and chosen celebs.

People that use LOL are either 14 year old girls or queers. Hope this helps.

Not that I recall. If a major social media and news platform crashes it's news. It's happened several times under Musk.

It's been three widespread outages today. There were also outages in March and November of 2024 and in July 2023.

It appears that a lot of users have had problems, to the point that "My Twitter" is trending, which is amusing after Elon's rebranding to X.
