Do you think American society is getting better overall?

Recommended Posts

Trending in a healthier direction, wiser, nobler, etc.

I realize there's a ton of grey area in assessing this...it's a big, vague question. There are many different trends to consider. I'm curious how people feel general sentiment wise though. Is the perceivable good in developments outweighing the bad? (Or maybe it's too close and complex to call).

What's more likely in a very general sense...you'll be more or less comfortable with society 10 years down the road?

This is the best time ever to live in America. Life expectancy is at all time highs, quality of life has never been better. Middle class has enough disposable income to buy nice electronics and multiple cars. The average housing size has trended upwards at a great rate.

Also outdoorsman like myself have it great. The conservation efforts of the 70's has finally paid off. One example is the Madison River in montana, one of the most famous trout rivers in America. In the 60's and 70's the average fish size was small and the only fish that were caught were fish that were stocked. Now, the madison river routinely produces giant trout and all trout are wild. The river has not been stocked in over a decade.

There are many other conservation success stories. The quality of fishing and hunting in America has not been this good in the last hundred years.

I feel like we are smarter, more intelligent, healthier and more educated as a whole. With that said, I think we are less happy, have a lower sense of morality and there are more problems. :dunno:

We are decaying society. The government has decided to rule rather than govern. That has created a nation of subservients and those who serve them.

American jobs are getting outsourced to developing countries.

American public schools continue to teach skills that can be done by cheaper labor or have an computer app created to do it.

The tax base is about to shrink with millions of American baby boomers about to retire and collect entitlements that are funded by an increasing borrowing debt.

People lack critical thinking skills.

There is a lack of face to face contact because people stare at cell phones all day long.

In my opinion, we're all fvcked.

There's tons of evidence to confirm whatever your preconceived notion is on the subject. I don't think anyone can say for sure until we're looking back on this era within an historical context.

Dude people can't even think for themselves let alone know who they should be voting for. When Massachusetts voted out Scott Brown and put in that fvcking moonbat Warren, I knew the tide had turned.

I've been reading about gene pool upgrades in the south and how it could affect voting patterns.

Maybe for the first time in 400 years, southern politicians will finally stop embarrassing the rest of us.

Both Warren and Brown were great options. I'm envious.

Fock, man. In Michigan we had to chose between Stabenow and Hoekstra. That was embarrassing. I wanted to annul the Michigan vote and just appoint the loser from the Massachusetts one instead. No one listens to me though.

Bro...you can't possibly be serious.

Brown is a centrist. Warren is an over the line liberal.

She's focking outstanding on consumer protection. And she couldn't be any more liberal than Stabenow but come with about 50 more IQ points.

And ...and...

It was Brown who lost.

We had to choose between a dumb uber-liberal with a labor union pedigree who's only known legislative 'contribution' was a failed attempt at harassing radio stations for "equal play of both sides of the issues" and a birther.

Stabenow is a three term backbencher. Meanwhile Warren is already a liberal superstar.

Nadar is "outstanding on consumer protection" but I would never vote for him.

We have been the equalizer to date. I once threw a fit that duke was considered. I spit on him.

To blame all the countries woes on us is retarded.

Not only is not getting better, I"m betting almost every aspect of it has taken a serious nosedive over the past 20 years. Morals, health, intelligence, you name it...it's an embarrassment how far we've slid.

Admittedly, I'm a pessimist by nature, but to me it's pretty obvious we're in a serious decline.

My justification comes from having conversations with people I meet. It seems most folks are concerned about similar things.

American people are more flawed and morally defective and generally stupid than at any other point in our nation's history.

Socially, the country is making great strides. WAY more advanced then they were 50, 40, even 10 years ago.

I agree that the internet and video games are a huge social problem. Young kids know way more than we knew as children.

And video games have turned a lot of kids into lazy nerds.

You know what I see when I read this thread?

A bunch of crazies standing on the corner wearing sandwich boards yelling at passerbys "Repent, the end is near!"

Jesus Christ, get over yourselves.
