Gordon/Welker vote TOMORROW

Recommended Posts

I heard the vote is to include the domestic violence rule where all suspensions resulting from it will be void. Ray rice is back baby!

Since weed is legal in a few states and rice can knock his wife out without being handed any legal penalty, it is assumed public opinion has shifted in marijuana and domestic abuse cases.

I think given the heat on the NFL for the Rice debacle, now way they loosen the drug standards now. The NFL is in deep doo doo with the morality police right now and the last thing they want to do is make it worse.

I think it could be the opposite. The 2 game suspension for Rice showed they were out of step with public opinion. The year long suspension for Gordon showed the same. They get a chance to fix that.

I think the NFL is pretty pathetic if they are solely basing their suspensions on what they think the public opinion might be.

I would disagree. They desperately need some good press. Testing for HGH would help that. Lessening the marijuana rules to be in line w other sports is not giving up a lot especially when a majority of America wants it legalized.

And where does this majority of America want it legalized come from?

Are you asking where people from America come from? I know we are a melting pot but I don't get your point or why that matters in this discussion.

Edited to add latest Gallup Poll

For First Time, Americans Favor Legalizing Marijuana

Support surged 10 percentage points in past year, to 58%

The 32 player reps have a conference call in 18 minutes, but from what I'm reading they still have no idea what they are voting on.

and........ what about our other bad boy.............. Justin Blackmon.

Stay suspended or not?

They said he was suspended before the policy expired. He's not coming back.

For whatever reason, it was scheduled for tonight, even though they had all day...then they were probably clueless as to what they are voting on! :ugh: Doesn't seem like anyone associated with the NFL has a clue nowadays.

Even if his suspension is overturned he is unemployed and I don't see any team taking on that PR nightmare.

:dunno:

I don't know about national public opinion, but I'm sure that a poll on this board would overwhelmingly approve of your lady drop kicking you right in your frozenbeernuts. :o

I don't think that applies to Gordon or Welker (the subjects of the thread FYI)

Here's the latest from ESPN:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11497297/nflpa-vote-revising-drug-policy-tabled

(good news: if it passes, Gordon is reinstated. The hangups have nothing to do with Gordon, but with two other issues. See article. If they can't get a vote soon, there is fear that the whole thing will get tabled until end of the season....which would simply suck fat D).

From the above article: "It is unclear whether the NFLPA will continue negotiations or table them for the year. It is possible the union could set a deadline by next Tuesday to reach agreement, a source said."

WTF!

What good would it do to table it until next year? I don't see the point in that logic.

I was speaking on the assertion that the vote would get Rice back in the NFL. Sorry the quote didn't appear.

Rice wasn't even brought up in this thread!

Wow, for those who thought this was a pipe dream are now wishing they picked up Gordon. Anyways, this is good news and bad news. Good news is if they vote yes, Gordon would be playing as soon as Sunday. If not then looking at an entire year. Man, that's about as extreme as you can get.

Anyone think that he doesn't get reinstated?

"Whether or not Gordon is reinstated will depend on how the rules are written. If they allow players back in that were suspended in the new league year -- which began March 11 -- he might have a chance.

If they base it on testing positive in the new league year, he might not be eligible considering he tested positive sometime before February, a source told Northeast Ohio Media Group."

I could see them being douches and typical NFL bc they don't want other no names to come outta the wood work and start asking for reinstatement and law suits etc. I own him in 3 outta 4 leagues bc I snatched him off waivers and am floating out crazy trade offers to get some sure thing value outta him while I can

Another source said that if the NFL and NFLPA allow Gordon, Welker and others who were suspended in 2014 to have their suspensions altered, others who have been banned since the new collective bargaining agreement went into effect in 2011 will be banging on the NFL's door.

"It opens up a whole can of worms for players who have been impacted by the policy,'' said one source. "They would be better off not letting anyone back in.''

If Gordon does not get reinstated he will lawyer up and sue the NFL. Seems as if he is playing nice under the belief the "new" policy will clear his name.

I believe Gordon already had a lawsuit with the NFL, but canceled it recently...maybe he's planning on being re-instated??

to address some of what has been written above---if the NFL/NFLPA agree on a new drug policy, Gordon and Welker and others will get reinstated. It has been widely reported that the reinstatement of these players is not a major hurdle in the agreement.

There are two issues holding this up concern neutral arbitration and HGH testing protocol.

If Gordon ends up not playing, it is because the two sides could not agree to a deal and decide to just table it until next year.

Bottom line: if a deal is reached, Gordon (and others) gets reinstated. If they don't reach a deal, he doesn't play. If you ask me, the NFLPA is being way too demanding in what they are asking...both issues essentially boil down to the NFLPA wanting provisions that will allow players caught doing HGH to prolong/delay their investigations. If you do the crime, do the time....I say.

Sue for what?

He was busted (disagree with the threshold the league sets all you want) under the collectively bargained rules for the players.

He may get a few games back...but doubtful his suit would do much.

Policy is clear...get popped 3 times, get a year.
