it will all be appealed and reduced if not retracted, and walt anderson will be fired.

This guy gets it. Make ridiculous demands during your investigation and then when the investigation fails to turn up what you had hoped it would, you can blame the target for "not cooperating."

"This guy" is another Patriots fan. Duh

And FYI, the NFL offered a controlled environment with him and his lawyer present to ensure they were just looking for particular calls/texts to particular people. There's only one reason Brady wouldn't cooperate and we both know what that reason was.

This is all just a circus to keep the NFL in the headline discussions until we get to training camps... Give an overly harsh penalty that will get talked about after dragging it out months, just to allow another appeal process to drag out and get talked about... And when it gets substantially reduced, guess what...we can talk about this too...

I've considered this angle, but would the league really tear down one of its superstars just to give the people something to watch? Maybe so but that's pure hubris if true

Dude, how can you be a lawyer and not tell by the evidence that Brady knowingly cheated? I get the whole homer-thing, but holy fock.

because if you read Florio's article... By Walt Anderson's best recollection, he used the logo guage pregame, which means the balls weren't deflated beyond ideal gas law... But Well poked at the 'possibility' he misremembered and used the other gauge... This is a ref who has meticulous preparation, was tipped off before hand and said at dinner the night before he had it covered. He had to know the process would be under scrutiny, no chance he doesn't remember using a gauge with a crooked needle vs a straight one...

"Maybe those guys (have) got to study the rule book and figure it out" said Tom Brady "We obviously knew what we were doing."

Well, they read the rule book and guess what, Brady cheated and then lied! Good luck with that.

He deserves a slap on the wrist penalty to prove a point that a useless rule was broken... We even agreed that a 2gm suspension was fair.. i think that is even overboard but i'd understand it. 4 games a 1st round is absurd coming out of that joke of a report.

The texts paint a poor picture, I'll admit that. However the rest of the "evidence" is garbage. The rather substantial disparity between gauge measurements is especially significant. If you give any benefit of the doubt (of course the report didn't) you could easily arrive at a conclusion that the deflation was minor across the board and entirely consistent with atmospheric conditions.

But that all obscures the real point, which is that this whole thing is much ado about nothing. Teams pull this kind of stuff all the time. Atlanta was just caught piping in crowd noise and they got nothing more than a slap on the wrist. But because the Pats are a very successful franchise that everyone is jealous of, the fans want blood and the league obliges. Just pure bullsh1t all around

Fortunately, Goodell is not going to accept any attempt to make this less than what it is, and is holding them accountable. The suspension is a decent fit, not so sure about the draft picks. Perhaps the punishment is in part to deal with Brady's cheating, and the lack of organization control/oversight and also in a small part to compel anything other team trying to cheat to reconsider.

This is BS... the only phones ever confiscated in these investigations are team issued phones... And with all the leaks coming from every angle, no way in hell Brady gives them his personal phone... That is just crazy. Its the leagues fall back position as their 'case' is absurdly thin and doesn't stand on its own... So the argument is just a mishmash of BS>

Rog and his league have shown time and time again that little of what they decide makes sense. For Pats' fans to think they were above it all and untouchable is laughable... And I guess you can call it what you want. Bottom line is Brady's defiance led to him getting popped for 4 games.

Yep, its all driven by jealousy and opportunism over making a big deal over a star player

There isn't a single quote from Bradys full cooperation in the 243 page report. Every text he sent to relevant personnel was captured on their phones and used in the investigation. IF that isn't enough to build case, its more probably than not that there isn't a strong case to be made.

Hey - this is the reign of Rog, get used to it........ My Boys were popped and docked $10m in cap space bcoz Goodell and his goons said that we violated the spirit of the CBA in issuing a contract - a contract that his league office approved!

I concur. i think if he comes out at the time, acknowledges that he asked them to get the balls where he liked them and mistakes were made etc, then this goes away instantly, no suspension.....nothing. But when you throw in the public denials, the fake outrage and clear trail of active participation by Brady in the text messages while he so emphatically denied....they effectively forces the NFL's hand here.

This was 100% their own doing. Perhaps worse, Brady really does come off as a true cheat here. His pretense of not knowing and such, lined up against the facts really makes him look very bad.

Well I got it wrong. The penalty is outrageous. Put your money on the Pats to win the Superbowl next year.

Link? The texts paint a bad picture but "clear trail" is a considerable overstatement

And the next time the Falcons get caught the punishment will be more severe

Your boys were popped because they agreed to go along with everyone else concerning the cap and then went back on their word.

Reduced.

The #1 draft pick was dumb to throw in there.

Suspend Brady 2 games...fine the team. Bam...done.

That would be a reasonable response. Still a lot more than the Falcons or teams committing similar offenses got, but perhaps that'd be warranted with the prior discipline for Spygate

To fine NE and Bob Kraft is ridiculous and hardly a deterrent - he's gone gazillions....Rog should of docked them cap space - that's an impactful penalty.

Did the falcons lie and obstruct?

How would it be a lot more than the Falcons got?

They lost $350k and a 5th rounder.

If Brady gets it for 2 games and the team gets fined...how is it more? Because of Brady...well yeah, he was involved.

If you had Matt Ryan telling the sound guys to pump stuff in and then lying about it after...he would have been suspended too.

Rapistberger was suspended 4 games for sexually assaulting a woman in a bathroom

Plaxico was suspended 2 games for shooting a unlicensed, unregistered gun in a club.

Vincent Jackson was suspended 3 games for his 2nd DUI charge

Ray Rice 2 games for knocking his fiancee out in an elevator

BRADY SUSPENDED 4 games for air in a football. Oh the hilarity is endless.

1 million dollar fine is the highest ever given to a team

Was Big Ben convicted of anything? Oops...nope.

The fine means nothing. Get rid of it. Reduce it to 2 games. Brady personally deserves it. Still lose the draft picks, that's the franchise's punishment.

And not one of those things challenged the integrity of the game or altered outcomes.

Had Plaxico shot a gun on the field during a game, I bet it would have been more.

Actually ray rice COULD have played. However the ravens knew better than to play him or even keep him. Bad publicity. But as far as the nfl goes he only got 2 games which, I think we all can agree, should have been ALOT more

2-2 start. Brady another year older. No longer allowed to have the balls the way he likes them. They'll be lucky to get 10 wins. And lucky for them, that'll probably still win the division by 2 games.

It must have. Brady and the Pats smuggled them into a bathroom AFTER the official inspection to make them the way Tommy likes them. Why go through the hassle if it made no difference?

it made a difference to him, clearly. It's called comfort. Doesn't mean it changed the outcome of the game. for fock sakes.

Fines are worthless, the team farts a million bucks. The draft pick is really the only thing thats a punishment. Brady taking an unpaid vacation pays them more than the fine and its not like they dont have a backup or a coach still.

You're pretty stupid if you think Brady's suspension doesn't hurt Kraft, Belichick and the team. Like they give a fock about saving a few dollars on his contract.

Can you go back and be issued a speeding ticket for going 55 mph on a road ten years ago that is now 45 mph?

Roids weren't illegal back then, so no - they weren't tainted.

I'm talking about when they were illegal, you think no players were using and tainted game outcomes before they got caught?

Outrageous, not even close to fitting the crime. The draft picks are particularly indefensible.
