Now that the transcripts have been released for deflategate.....

Recommended Posts

not really... besides some joking around...

Yeah...ok, other than multiple stories by brady and his agent about the phone being destroyed, why it was, and why he wanted a new one.

Im sure you believe them all to be true (despite it being impossible since several of them conflicted).

Only in the minds of Pats fans.

and Cowboys fans like me.....and New York Jet's starting cornerbacks.....and lawyers that served as special counsel for 3 MLB commissioners ......and countless writers that bothered to read the transcript of the appeal.....and a number of ex players in the media.

Would you consider the scenario that he DOESN"T destroy his phone.... He offered a transcript of texts with numbers and timestamps.. was told nothing else was required, and no further investigation into it was going to happen. it wasn't an issue. They weren't getting the phone either way.

Its completely irrelevant except as a sensationalist media headline.

Why is it so unbelievable that celebrities lik Tom Brady destroy their cell phones when they get new ones?

Maybe Brady was trying to hide something.

But maybe not.

I can't disagree with that really.....BUT...

My first football memory is watching the 49ers and Dolphins Super Bowl with my dad. Then a couple years later when the strike in 1987 happened, my dad was so upset at both sides that he declared he was done with football. He stood by his guns for 25 years....n the past 5 years, my brother and I had kids, and we do Sunday dinner at my parents house every week so the kids can spend time with their grandparents, uncles, aunts, each other, etc. And obviously we want to watch football when there. So he has now started watching again simply because he had to.

I'm not there at the moment, but I'm wondering if a little bit of those genetics are starting to creep in.......There are aspects of this league that are threatening to threaten my ability to enjoy the game with a clear conscious. This particular story wouldn't drive me past any line, but it does lend weight to the idea that the people running things and getting richest being of very low moral fiber. And that is a requirement for all worst case scenarios that could actually make me quit watching NFL football.

It's more about the scumbags that play in the NFL that I have a problem with. I've looked past all the criminals overrunning the place for now. As time moves on I may not look past it as much. If my fantasy league ever broke up I would probably just watch the Giants and a few other big games. I already don't love it as much as I used to because of the criminals.

His dishonesty about it is not irrelevant. That has been explained many times.

Can't believe this is still being argued. It's clear he was involved in cheating to gain a competitive advantage. While we can say that deflating footballs is no big deal, he (Brady) clearly thought it was a big enough deal to cheat and lie about it.

That's just a difference in philosophy between you and I then. If a neighbor steals my Jeep, I'll be mad and want him punished. And if I for whatever reason have to spend $500 to become whole again, it's not going to shake me really.........But if the police decide to accuse me of stealing my neighbors car, and the judge really needs some conviction stats to secure re-election, and they get together and lie about my testimony in order to convict me, even if I'm only required to pay a $500 fine, those events will leave me beyond angry and a changed man.

So why does one freak me out while the other doesn't get to me, despite it being the same crime and same loss? It's about losing the ability to control one's own fate......I want to believe that I can see my daughter every day for the rest of my life as long as I don't do anything too stupid. The scumbag car thief (or NFL Quarterback in this case) doesn't have the ability to take that away from me. The scumbag cop and judge (or NFL Commissioner in this case) does have that ability, and they can do so at anytime for reasons that have zero to do with me.

So yes, I expect more from people in power. They have a greater responsibility.....When they behave without honor, the normal people lose faith that they'll be ok as long as they do the right thing. Once enough lose that faith, it's every man for himself and the whole thing collapses.

Or we can stop thinking about it from a legal perspective and use some common sense. I believe he trashed it when he did because he didn't want to take any chances that the league would get a hold of it.

....Sure, maybe his lawyers and the league told him he would never have to give up his phone. But maybe he thought about what all was on it, and thought to himself "Why even take the chance?"........Isn't that a common sense answer that we can all agree on?

After that, we can go our separate ways where one side thinks he didn't want to take a chance on the league seeing texts that they already had gathered from other phones, whereas the other side can think he didn't want to take a chance on his personal emails, photos, videos, etc ever being leaked to the pubic. But yeah, he didn't want to take a chance on anyone getting a hold of his phone, and he decided to get rid of it when people were on their way to see what he had on his phone, Common sense in terms of timing.

Yes...its common sense that a guilty person trying to hide things would keep those investigating him from getting their hands on things.

Glad you finally understand.

The bs crap about being worried the league would leak his personal pictures is weak.

I'll side with Sho in saying that Brady's and his lawyers reasonings were completely different when they said what it was. That along with the fact he destroyed the phone does look bad. However, I believe it was because the nfl couldn't find any evidence that Brady manipulated the game balls that they released that information. He destroyed the phone months ago. Yet we just now are hearing about it leads me to believe the nfl didn't have enough to go on so they leaked that info to get the public riled up and on their side

I'll agree with you here. Anything that would destroy his image that was on the phone would have made it to the public. I wouldn't want the nfl having my phone. Even if I had nothing on there that would be relevant for the deflate gate case I still wouldn't want them having it

No I don't think that's why he destroyed it. However I do believe that's the reason he didn't want them to get ahold of it. I've already said that it didn't look good that he destroyed it. But that happened months ago and its just now coming out now when the nfl had no evidence to logically deny his appeal. So they leaked the info that he destroyed his phone to get the public support

By Kerry J. Byrne (@footballfacts)

Cold, Hard Football Facts Potentate of Pigskin

Now that Tom Brady transcripts have been released, let the Cold, Hard Football Facts summarize for you the entire DeflateGate controversy in 5 quick bullet points:

1) DeflateGate was fabricated by the NFL, based upon accusations by and apparent collaboration between two teams that can't beat the Patriots, the Ravens and the Colts. It was fueled by NFL executive Mike Kensil, a man who spent many years as a senior front-office executive with another Patriots whipping boy, the New York Jets.

2) The story, including faulty information from Kensil, was blown up by NFL allies in the media, including Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star, who covers a team that can't beat the Patriots, and Chris Mortensen of ESPN, who fed the nation a story that stood in contradiction to facts admitted by the NFL.

He only just retracted the story this week, seven months later.

3) The NFL's entire case against Brady is based upon innocuous texts about Brady instructing a ball boy to take care of the footballs ... like any QB would say at any time to any ball boy; and by the belief that a ball boy could rummage through a big netted bag and deflate 12 footballs to Brady's exact specifications in just 90 seconds in a cramped stadium bathroom.

Many of the accusations made by the NFL, meanwhile, are easily explained by science, including the Ideal Gas Law, which NFL officials admitted they knew nothing about before accusing Brady of wrongdoing; and by the fact that NFL officials have admitted that balls lose air pressure during games.

Keep in mind, this entire time, the NFL found that the Colts ALSO played the AFC title game with footballs that measured under the legal limit. The league simply ignored the fact that 3 of 4 Colts footballs measured under the hallowed 12.5 PSI (upon which the NFL tells us rests the integrity of the game), as if the rules applied to only one team.

4) There is NO proof, no video, no audio, no document, no text, no email, no admission, no data, no communication, no record of any kind that shows that Tom Brady had any role in illegally doctoring footballs so that they were below legal guidelines. None. This proof does not exist. , there is barely any evidence of wrongdoing by Brady, let alone a smoking gun.

5) The legal world has a term for a person against whom no proof of wrongdoing exists: "Innocent."

And for all this, Gridiron Godfather Roger Goodell and the mighty NFL endeavored to destroy the reputation of one of its all-time great players. In doing so, the NFL chiseled away at the foundation of its own integrity ... apparently without realizing it.

Nice job, NFL.

For Goodell, meanwhile, sounds like he'll soon learn what the Colts, Ravens, Jets and others have long known: trying to take down Tommy is a fatal mistake.

Can't believe this is still going. You guys decided he was innocent and have completely ignored the facts that show otherwise. Instead, focusing on the F-ups by the NFL as proof that he's innocent. Well, it's not an either/or thing. BOTH parties are guilty. The NFL of being poopbags for how they handled the situation and the Pats/Brady for focking cheating.

Exactly. All the screw ups in the world by Goodell don't change the fact that 11 of 12 balls were under-inflated, that the ball boys took the balls into the bathroom, that one of their nicknames is The Deflator, and that Brady destroyed his phone. It's just deflection at it's finest by the desperate pats fans.

Just for kicks, lets say the following:

- There is no explanation whatsoever that is plausible that could explain how the footballs could be under-inflated other than blatant cheating.

- The guy with the nickname has said nickname because he deflated footballs every chance he got.

Even if those statements are true, is there enough solid evidence here to say for sure Brady was the guy ordering it? It seems all we have is his refusal to want to give anyone access to his phone. What else is there that indicates Brady was involved at all?....Maybe it was some assistance coach and the motivation wasn't so much that Brady could throw a deflated ball better as it was the fact that deflating the ball means less fumbles. I've seen that angle speculated on before everyone decided it was so Brady could gain an advantage.

What, exactly, in what you just stated says that Brady "knew about, approved of, consented to, and provided inducements and rewards"

Pretend for a minute that you were a bit intelligent. Who else would possibly care enough to have his ball boys do that? Maybe a backup left tackle? lol
