The Shawshank Redemption?

Recommended Posts

Who was redeemed? It wasn't Andy. He was innocent in the first place. Maybe his escape was "redemption" from being wrongfully imprisoned, but I'm not sure that makes a lot of sense. Was it the prison itself, since the Warden and Hadley finally get served with a little justice. Was it Red? Maybe King thought it just sounded good. :dunno:

Thoughts?

Since Red is the narrator, I always took it to be that the story is ultimately about him.

Hey fumble.

Could be, but he's pretty much telling Andy's story for the most part. That's kind of where I ended up too, but I remain skeptical.

The prison itself. Shawshank was "redeemed" from bad to good.

I would've changed the ending and called it "Where's That Damn Box!?!"

Nope, I would have changed the title to "Town in Mexico---Zappato, Zazlo...fock what was the name of that place???"

How do we know this? Maybe the next Warden/Guard combo was even worse.

There wasn't a sequel.

Does "The Green Mile" take place in Shawshank? They executed an innocent magical being. :dunno:

I don't know, but it was a mouse-shank redemption fur sure.

(yes the "fur" is intentional)

Agreed.. Red basically spells it out for us in his speech to the Parole board... For the 1st time since his incarceration, Red presents himself as a humbled, remorseful, rehabilitated man. His redemption is further proven by his desire to go back in time, go back and talk to that young, stupid boy - tell him how things are.

One thing I never got though... As brilliant, sharp and keen as Andy was - how did he not have a better lawyer, how did he get beat and convicted on such a bogus charge?

Probably got advice from an internet lawyer.

Probably cause if he had, then there would have been no need for King to write the story.

I thought it was a pretty solid case against him actually. That was extremely sh1tty luck though. His wife and her lover get murdered the same night that he was earlier sitting outside with a loaded gun.

This is correct.

I can't claim to have seen the movie, but I always assumed it was about a guy who uses a coupon from his local Shaw's circular to get a great price on some prime lamb cuts. Tell me where I'm wrong. :dunno:

You've never seen Shawshank Redemption? One of the greatest movies of all time.

The prison is Shawshank and Redemption means the act of saving or being saved from sin or evil. I think the title is pretty self explanatory but I could be wrong Stephen King is kind of a nutcase so who knows.

I was exaggerating - I have seen a lot of it over the years. Just not enough to refute my assumption, I guess. I'll give it another look.

Everybody catch what Red calls Andy's plan when they're discussing it? "A shitty pipe-dream." :)

Frank Darabont, the director. Seriously ... how did such a good film come from the same man who brought you The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, The Fly II, and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors?

Not to mention The Walking Dead.

I kid. TWD was much better when Darabont was involved IMO. Getting rid of him was probably the dumbest thing they did.
