Shoulder Injury for Mark Ingram - Put on IR

Recommended Posts

Uh-Oh...

From Rand Getlin on Twitter...

I'm told #Saints RB Mark Ingram is dealing with a serious shoulder injury. There is some fear it could be season ending.

I'm currently finalizing the early RB rankings for this week and its difficult to get excited about anyone at the position, an now this. Yikes...

Golden opportunity for Spiller to show if he has anything left in the tank. Just picked him up in 2 leagues where he had been dropped.

Spiller and Tim Hightower are the current RBs on the roster. It's hard to envision either one being a true difference maker. I'd probably jump on Spiller in PPR leagues and Hightower in standard scoring leagues.

Is there a point were I just give up? Getting close.

Luck, Foster, Forsett, then C Johnson, K Allen, M Bennett, and on and on with players missing games or multiple games.

Not much to have a team and watch it fall apart.

Just jumped on Hightower in 3 leagues. Spiller seems to be non existent. I don't think there is anyone else.

I dunno. Spiller has been more involved than Hightower, hasn't he?

EDIT: looking at recent usage, my own answer is now "no". :)

keep reading that HIghtower would step into the Ingram spot.....and that Spiller would keep his role.

I would agree , I'm not going to go fishing for either one of them , but if I had to pick one I would get Spiller first .

I am so done with Spiller. He was supposed to be the receiving back, what happened? He keeps getting opportunities as players fall. He has done nothing. Good luck with him.

Highwater got 11 carries week 10. For a WW RB he could get 15-18 touches.

They might as well cut Spiller. They don't want him involved for some, likely good, reason.

I'm grabbing Hightower if I can.

Okay. Might as well. Spiller is rostered (not sure why before today), but I dropped Diggs for Hightower. Three weeks left, my receivers are awesome, I can't see starting Diggs anymore. Hasn't done squat recently, tough matchups to end the season. Hightower may go on a tear, and I have a flex spot I've been sticking Langford/Ware/Hill/Blount into and out of for two days.

Can't see me starting him this week, but if I survive and he goes off, so much the better. Plus, no one else grabs him. Diggs I can lose.

i don't even have room to c0ckblock in the league I'm in that would benefit from this the most. :wall:

Edit: Dropped R Fitz and rolling with Roethlisberger and no backup QB for at least a week. If I win and Hightower doesn't do anything, I can pick another BU QB just in case Ben gets hurt again. Best team in the league and #1 seed had Devontae Freeman and Spiller, this is a big blow.

Oh yeah, that's the other reason. The Ingram owner in the league where I grabbed Hightower is left with...Gore, Sproles, and Gordon. He's in the bottom bracket, I wouldn't see him until the ship, but still. Guy's been in the league with me since the start. That's funny.

Grab Hightower, why not? Could end up being found

money. I like that he could be good in the MNF game

at home wk 15 vs Lions. 2 teams currently 4-8 just running

up & down the field on each other.

Jax for a good pass-catching back in 16 is nothing to sneeze at either. That's the thing, Hightower is solid as a pass catcher. This may play out with Spiller not getting any more touches than he already is.

I realized that I'm starting Roethlisberger this week and if he were go down during the game I'm screwed anyway, whether I have a backup QB or not. If I somehow won, there's good QB's on the WW and less people grabbing for them anyway. Dropping the backup QB was a low risk move for me, but blocking the run-away best team from getting a replacement player is a good tactic. Done deal and here's hoping that Hightower blows up!

Who'd you drop, just out of curiosity? Your reasoning makes perfect sense to me.

FWIW - my $ is on Hightower getting the bulk of M. Ingram's carries.

Spiller has had z-e-r-o weeks with double-digit carries, while Hightower has at least one.

I *might* drop Stevie Johnson for Hightower - but more of c0ckblock nature (already have Rawls, D. Johnson, Ivory, L. Miller, C. West and D. Woodhead!).

I just DID drop Stevie for Hightower, funny. I don't like groin injuries... might nag him the next few weeks and I won't trust him to play him.

My team also has way too many RBs now, lol. Ivory/Freeman starters and bench Bilal, Coleman, Duke J, James White and now Hightower.

Team with Ingram has been so lucky all season. I have first round bye in my bracket, their team first round bye in other bracket. Losing Ingram is a death spell (ie they've been starting Dez as a WR, Ertz as TE all season). They've ridden Ingram/Rodgers/Crabtree/Marshall to a bunch of single digit wins over superior opponent teams.

Nice piece here on the Saints RB situation from Saints beat writer Mike Triplett....

For one thing, I don't expect either guy to step into a No. 1 role like Ingram has had. But there will be a ton of snaps available. The Saints could have used Spiller a lot more already, but his snaps have decreased as the season goes on. Spiller played only five snaps in last week’s 41-38 loss to the Panthers and has just four touches the past two weeks. Hightower, meanwhile, could replace Ingram in base packages as more of a first- and second-down type of runner -- perhaps getting some goal-line looks.

I'll reiterate, they should just cut Spiller already.

Just dropped Rivers for Hightower. Hope that's not a stupid move.

But he's too inconsistent lately anyway. Plus, he faces KC in week 14, and Denver in week 17.

My other QBs are Carr, Tyrod and Winston. Carr actually faces Denver in week 14, and KC in week 17. So I'll be rolling with Winston or Tyrod this week.

Ha, nice call. Hightower was ALREADY seeing the Ingram role a few weeks ago after the injury apparently happened (until Hightower got dinged up). The Saints were using Robinson over Spiller earlier in the season too. It is possible the Saints use this to prove out Spiller one way or another since they're out of the playoff hunt. And that happens all the time. Barring a trial period if you look at history and on field performance this year, Hightower will get 15-20 carries. He has fresh legs and isn't a total stiff. That right there my friends is a worthy stab at that end of season waiver wire gem, something that happens every year.
