Sho Nuff 720 Posted March 29, 2016 Gun violence is not the bigger threat. Gun nuts have no plans I get a hold of a nuke or biological weapons and use them. And if guns are a bigger threat, why is he directing so much more resources to fighting Islamic terrorism than he has guns? Gun violence has gone up on his watch, and he hasn't done too much. I don't think him or you understand what "bigger threat" means. I don't think you understand much of anything to be honest.
Sho Nuff 720 Posted March 29, 2016 Oh, and on the "he will hire great people" side...how can we think that? His spokeswoman is involved in a sex scandal with his GOP opponent. His campaign manager is now being charged with battery for grabbing and bruising a reporter (he denies ever touching her or knowing who she is despite video of it happening). Yeah...he hires awesome people.

What do you think Trump and Cruz mean when they say "We need to go in and utterly destroy ISIS!@#!" Trump even wants to do so outside of NATO and go it alone there. Kasich believes to actually defeat this group you simply have to have some folks on the ground in Syria and Iraq where these people are located. Not doing so is just dragging this out. What he doesn't want is any nation building or going it all by ourselves. Get in and get out and then work with the other Arab nations to try and change the hearts and minds as to stem the tide of the radicalization of the religion. Don't get me wrong, I loathe everything that is Cruz, and trump is well....trump. out of those three choices, it's Kasich by a mile. I just hate the idea of getting involved in another ground war/civil war/search and destroy type war in the middle east. Eta: we will never defeat terrorism. We beat isis, another group will pop up. We created a never ending war over there. We opened pandoras box. It will never go away. Eta again: NATO is worthless to us imo. I'm not a huge fan of nato. It should be called usato. But Trump is going to do it without putting American boots on the ground. Like the Mexican wall he's going to just magically get "people from that part of the world" to put up the manpower and apparently work at our behest. Oh, and btw, we're going to be paying less money into the effort as well. We know how similar strategies have worked out in the past, but of course it's going to work this time - "AND FAST" - because it's Trump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xSN6n0Bm80

Sho Nuff 720 Posted March 31, 2016 Michael Flynn is his foreign policy advisor right now, I'd call that more then just an endorsement. I answered the question about him being incompetent on foreign policy, but here is where you and I differ. 1. I don't think anybody has a great grasp at foreign policy. Are some better then others, of course. That's why presidents have cabinet members or advisors. 2. If someone like Paul was added to his ticket as VP or some aspect of foreign policy advisor, I'd start to warm up to him. If Trump surrounds himself with quality staff, I'd take a look at him. Yes I think he's horribly unqualified, but that doesn't mean he'll be a disaster, that's why I said you're making assumptions. Surround him with competent, intelligent, and experienced staff, he could flurish. Nobody knows for sure how he would do. Looks like Paul is about to endorse Cruz. KSB2424 3,148 Posted April 1, 2016 Op-Ed of the day. From a political historian. Well worth the read. Why and how we have the electoral college process and where it was rooted. Our Founders were sorta smart. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/03/trump-founding-fathers-electoral-college-213777 Donald Trump is the guy our fathers warned us about. Our Founding Fathers, that is. The drafters of the Constitution distrusted the opportunist who played on popular emotions in the quest for political power. They created a republic, a system in which authority was rooted in the people, but they were leery about letting the people actually exercise power. To the founders, the preservation of freedom meant they had to be wary of popular rule, or pure democracy, which they saw as an invitation to despotism. The fiercest enemies of the republic, Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist No. 1, were those men who begin “by paying an obsequious court to the people, commencing demagogues and ending tyrants.” John Adams declared of popular rule: “It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” The founders thus fashioned a series of checks and filters to keep the people—and the demagogues who might sway them—at bay. Possibly Trump will fail to amass a majority of delegates in the primaries. The complex rules that govern the awarding of delegates might trip him up; more likely the four-way split of the primary vote will hold him under the 1,237 needed to win outright. The Republican convention might then function as conventions did for much of American history. Trump has already obliquely threatened violence in case the convention deprives him of the nomination. The founders didn’t foresee conventions, but they did anticipate just this kind of demagoguery. And they built the electoral college as a final barrier against the likes of Trump. Electors were expected to exercise their judgment—their reason—in selecting the best candidate for president. But the founders were onto something. The virtue of democracy is the legitimacy it confers on those it elects; its vice is the temptation it affords candidates like Trump to inflame the baser passions of the electorate. The founders understood the need for the system to step back and take a deep breath before conferring great power on mere mortals. The return of the electoral college to its founding design is unlikely, but the next best thing might be the revival of conventions as places where the will of the people is filtered through the judgment of those who make a study and a practice of governance. This might happen as soon as July in Cleveland, and it might save the Republican Party and the country from a demagogue such as Trump.

That article is much more than that, which tells me you didn't read it but decided to press the reply button anyway. I read it. And learned nothing I didn't already know. But good looking out. Edit: I learned the author doesn't like Trump. And your political historian leaves out the genesis of the electoral college, which was to ensure that less populated areas had a say in the election process. Keeping it out of the hands of demagauges is more by- product than reason. It's a hit piece on Trump, insinuating that the founding fathers were so wise, when in actuality it was never their intention. A shame you couldn't see through it.
