Dak Prescott stakes his claim to the cowboys backup QB job

Recommended Posts

Yeah...Redskins are 6-3-1 only because of a soft schedule. Who'd they (the Redskins) beat?

See what I'm saying?

Yeah I see what you are saying, that any team you don't like has played a soft schedule. They have beat the Giants and Vikings. Let me guess both of those teams have played soft schedules too.

You know the NFL goes by record not strength of schedule.

They have beat the Giants and Vikings.

Yeah...okay so the Skins beat the Giants and the Vikes. The Vikes lost 4 in a row. Who'd they beat? The Giants? The Giants lost to the Packers. Giants also lost the Vikings (who lost 4 in a row).

I'm not seeing anyone here beating any of the top teams. Until I do, this is all nothing more than a bunch of soft schedules.

Now do you see what I'm getting at?

Its time to start thinking of the Boys as NFC title game favorites, Dak as potential league MVP, ROY and instant legend status among rookie QBs. If they make the SB this is one of the all time seasons for a rookie. Dont tell me this team would be undefeated with Romo. Tony has had plenty of great teams and gone 8-8 with them.

i'll mark you down as one of the "jerry has been one of the best drafters/traders/FA signers/cap managers in the league for a long time" club.

everyone else in that club eats crayons.

Not a totally dismissive stat - you do have to look at that too.

But okay, since we are looking at that - who then is a good team, Buffalo? Bcoz they beat NE.. Seattle, bcoz they beat NE. But the Hawks got beat both by the pitiful Saints, and even more pitiful Rams - and to top it off, they couldn't even beat an equally pitiful Cardinals team - so they're out, they can't be any good...... So I guess just Buffalo is a good team?

NE is a good team because their losses are flukes. ........

LOL,,...Cruzer...again...we are on the same side. Same with Polecat. I'm a Cowboys fan. Since football was even a thing in my head. Age 8?

I'm playing the part of "typical guy who will argue every way possible to not give the Cowboys credit" guy with these outlandish posts.

Its the NFL. You beat who is in front of you.

I dont see why, but do as you will. Has nothing to do with Jerry, im talking about Dak, Zeke and the Oline.

you said that "tony has had plenty of great teams." therefore you believe that jerry has been a fantastic talent evaluator and personnel manager since 2002.

that makes you one of like 17 people on the planet who think that. the rest of earth recognizes that he's been pretty bad, and has only gotten better in the last couple of years.

I took a swim thru comparable #'s of Dak and Romo - has anyone actually stopped to look at them?

Dak is on 2016 pace for:

* 4224 passing yards / In a 10 year playing career, Romo has only had 2 seasons where he threw more... The glory year of 2014, he threw for 3705.

* 27 passing tds / Romo was always really good here - 5 times he had more than 27, four times he had 30+.

* 225 rushing yards & 6 rushing tds / Romo's high mark was back in '09, went for 35 yards. And Romo has a combined 5 rushing tds - for his for his entire career.

* 3.20 interceptions / Romo's low mark was 7, which he did twice. Both times in injury shortened seasons - one year he played 6 games, the other 4 games.

* 12.3 yards gain per pass completion / Romo has had 4 seasons where is total was higher, but his career average is 12.1.

What do all these mean? Depends on how you look at them I guess. At the very least it give a little bounce to the notion that Dak isn't exactly the second fiddle that many want to think he is to Romo. He may not be doing it in the same kind of flashy style, but he's quietly putting up similar type stats.

Season by season for Romo vs Dak's prjected season.

Compare:

Yards per attempt

Completion percentage

Touchdowns

Interceptions

Yards per game passing

These are the stats that matter.

Romo to Denver in 2017, gets Elway a 4th ring?

Denver currently has the 28th ranked pass blocking offensive line. They've given up 26 sacks so far, the league average is 22.... Not exactly an ideal fit for a qb who you cross your fingers on every time he goes down of late.

Yeah, but who'd they beat?

Annoying. You know what makes a good team?

A team that has gone 10-1. Why? Well, average to below average teams don't win 10 straight.

Good teams beat the teams they're projected to beat regardless of record.

Average teams lose to teams they should beat.

Good teams have success on the road and find ways to win. Good teams take care of business at home. Good teams are able to climb out of a 14 point deficit. Good teams answer adversity in the 4th quarter when they're down or things are going well.

Had Dallas lost to the Steelers, Packers, Eagles, and Ravens all of those teams would've been above .500.

The NFL is having a down year. But it doesn't change the fact that Dallas is a top team in the NFL this year.

That makes them good. Very efficient. Top running offense. Smart QB who doesn't turn it over. They actually have a top 5 rushing defense.

Dallas would have to play NE or Seattle to play a good team. Obviously that's not going to happen until the playoffs. I never seen a fan dismiss their 10-1 team because of a ridiculously stupid question of "who have they played?"

With all this said, this great team we have right now will be doomed by its defense if that defense doesn't get its crap together.

I know. I was being sarcastic. To me, when someone is talking about the NFL..and they say "Yeah...but who'd they beat?" It tells me they are either retarded or fishing. Or, as in my case, making fun of those that ask the question.

One scary stat...at one point...Cousins had 53 drop backs...and Dallas mustered up exactly ZERO sacks. He dropped back more later...so...the state only got worse for Dallas. How is that even possible? I only remember one "hurry" the entire game for Cousins.

If we had ONE good/great pass rusher...the DBs are ALL suddenly much better.

We're 11 games in, I don't think it's a matter of getting their crap 2gether - I think it's just a matter of this defense being what it is. And what it is - is a patchwork of Bend Don't Break average talented guys who try really hard, but simply aren't imposing. And outside of Lee, this defense has zero playmakers, least none that worry offensive coordinators. Do you realize this defense has not had a turnover in 4 straight games? Notta, zip, zilch. The last was back in Week 8 against Philly. If Marinelli doesn't find a way to get to qbs, this unit is going to get eaten alive come January.

By crap, I meant pass rush. Like Tubby said above, 53 drop backs and not 1 sack.

Heard someone recommend calling Jared Allen. At this point, I'd be okay of bringing guys in who can at least hurry the QB more than once a game.

Dak is playing great, but I'm sure they would be this great if Romo was healthy and playing too.

Dak has come into the BEST situation for any rookie qb. He has the BEST OL and the BEST runner in the NFL. All he has to do is manage the clock and make no mistakes, which he is very good at doing that.

Like I said, he is playing great so I will give him that. I doubt he would be looking this go on any other team.

Agreed.

I hate to find downer moments in such a uplifting season, but I'm also tired of being Regular Season sensations and celebrating offensive Pro Bowlers... In a crucial, Divisional, prime time game, at home, this defense gave up 20 points in the 4th quarter. And in fact, were an on-side kick away from losing this game.. You pull that shiit in January - your ass is going home to watch the rest of the playoffs on tv.

He's doing far more than just managing the clock.

He's making plays with his arm and his feet every week.

His talent is undeniable.

You made a wrong assessment by saying all he has to do is manage the clock. That is true for a qb with a great defense. Dallas doesn't have a great defense. Dak must make the offense run well enough to keep up with opposing teams scoring on Dallas weaker defense.

Good point. I stand corrected. Dak is making big plays when needed so yeah, this is more than just managing the clock.

Shouldn't the title now be Dak stakes his claim to MVP?

I keep saying, Zeke might be Offensive Rookie of the Year - but Dak is the MVP of this team, and maybe the league.

If Russell Wilson was having the year Dak is - they'd already have the parades planned and the trophy engraved.

Now stop it. Zak and the Cowboys are getting plenty of accolades. And yeah, Russell Wilson is a champion and a bonafide super star, of course he would get more attention. That's the way it works. Whining that the whole league isn't genuflecting at the Cowboys awesomeness? Let's win a playoff game first. Ok?

I think it's totally fair, and I'll tell you why... The Pats go 3-1 w/out Brady, he returns, lights it up - and the MVP talk started almost immediately. Well before Week 12 and well before anyone started talking about Dak.. I'm not forming a campaign for Dak, I'm saying the doubters need to finally let go of the Romo bias and recognize what this kid is doing. He's not some random, spare bus driver.

Why would you pay attention tomthe haters at this point? A month ago, yeah. If they don't see what's going on that means they aren't watching or they are trolling. Forget them either way. The kids good. Anyone with working eyeballs sees that. If all you see is a game manager rookie QB then you don't know what you're watching. That being said, you can't think he's going to be looked at alongside Wilson or Brady. They have pelts. Do yiu remember the last time a rookie QB took the NFC East and Football by storm? You're going to have to wait for him to be anointed. It's the way it goes.

I hope so - overcoming adversity, competing and defeating great teams, rising to the moment and shining when it matters are the stuff of big time players. I want Dak to be one, I want him to earn it, don't want anything handed to him... He's off to a start we've only seen twice before by a rookie qb - can't wait to see how he finishes.
