How was everyone's weekend?

Cubs pitchers showed up. 3 shutouts and a series sweep of the Brewers.

I also saw parts of the Yankees last 2 against the Angels. Thats a damned good team.

The Sox are no joke. Yanks and Sox heads up games should be some pretty good baseball this year.

It's great that they are both playing well and seemingly, the rivalry is back, or soon to be. MLB needs it

They need to get back to hating each other, too. Too much hugging.

Judge needs to take one in the teeth (preferably a line drive), tired of seeing that ridiculous gap. You're not David Letterman, you can afford to get it fixed

Stanton hasn't got going yet. Not to get ahead of things, but the Yankees/Cubs WS that was supposed to happen in 2003 has a chance.

Good a chance as any I guess. That would be fun.

How about that Bellinger benching? Good for Roberts. Guy goes from ROY to world famous lollygagger. Fock him.

Its early yet, but the Dodgers arent looking so hot.

Meanwhile,

The marathon-high pile of ugliness Major League Baseball foisted on the world this April warrants every iota of hyperbole henceforth. The weather was terrible, and the game did everything in its power to match it. Pitchers walked more hitters than any time since the turn of the century and are on pace to set single-season records for the most wild pitches, hit-by-pitches and strikeouts. Hitters, never ones to let pitchers one-up them, are fighting bad with worse. Eight teams are hitting in the .220s, and antiquated though batting average may be, the staunchest sabermetric disciple would agree on the grimness of it all, particularly when three of those teams currently own the best record in their division.

Cubs own Brewers this season. Too bad they can't play them everyday. Darvish and Quintana have looked good twice this season...in their four combined starts vs Milwaukee.

Congratulations baseball??

For the first time in Major League history there were more strikeouts in a month than hits in a month. At the end of April, there were 7,335 strikeouts and 6,992 hits.

A strange month for offense. Probably just an anomaly though. I doubt pitching has suddenly gotten that much better after one off season. Im guessing things will even out.

One would think, but also for a lot of hitters it is a now or nothing game... Most don't care if they go 1-for-5 with four strikeouts as long as the hit is a home run...

Yep. There are plenty of those guys. I was thinking about how people say both the offense and defense of the game has evolved pretty much in step. One of the reasons they say the game is perfect the way it is.

But then I started wondering if its really gotten so hard to find the gaps due to the speed of the defenders and the specialized shifts that some of these guys just give that up and swing for the fences no matter what.

Pretty shocking - considering Angel Hernandez and Joe West are still umpiring... Those two clowns wouldn't know a strike if it hit them in the ass.

Our Babe Ruth field had cement behind home plate, below where the backing fence was.

Can't recall an ump ever getting hit in the ass, but MANY a kid was out at home on a wild pitch that bounced back to the catcher
