Julio Jones no catch last night

Recommended Posts

The refs got the call right. That was not a catch. I said originally that it was, but after taking a closer look they were right. He slid out of bounds before he maintained full possession of the ball.

I don't know what a catch is, you don't know what a catch is, the announcers don't know what a catch is, the refs don't know what a catch is.

The rule makers have a vague notion what a catch is.

I agree that what is a catch may still be unclear, but to me this was clearly the refs making the right call

Looked like a catch to me.

It wasn't easy to spot unless you saw the proper angle. While he is sliding out of bounds the ball bobbles just the slightest amount. Plus he didn't seem to have full control before his shoulder hit the out of bounds line

Earlier in the game someone (I think an Atl player?) made a catch where the ball was moving around and touched the ground. If that was kept a catch I think Julio's was also a catch.

Based off the new rules, in my opinion, that's a catch. Yes, the ball may move a bit, but he still had control of it.

The receiver actually has to control the ball before they call it a catch. He was still bobbling the ball as he slid out of bounds.

Great call by refs. That is not an easy call.

Also, nice job getting Julio Jones 169 yards through the air. Too bad Atlanta forgot that they were playing real football and not fantasy.

Nothing like having your leading rusher get 6 attempts for 36 yards on the game.

Sarkisian is a moron. Theu tried using their undersized starting rb as the goal line back while having Julio out of the game. Freeman is great at finding his spots to run through, but he isn't a goal line battering ram. How OCs like him keep getting work idk.

Catches are like pornography. "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of actions I understand to be catches... but I know it when I see it."

They should have just given Jones 75 targets and kicked 7 FGs for the win!!

Julio Jones had 1444 yards last year with only 3 TDs. Wow.

I'm glad I didn't draft Matt Ryan.

Matt Ryan or Dak?

You forgot the third alternate... or take the year off of FF and go to Vegas for the winter and just bet and drink and watch the games in the casinos.

I saw it a few times. Bobble bobble bobble bobble out of bounds. Easy peasy. The refs were all over that one.

No catch, easy call.

Disagree... but, regardless of who is right, the thing that bothers me is the they don't show us a better angle or a close-up or simply a better view on the telecast. You know the technology would let them zoom in...

I get your point but this is not a zoom in determination. It's over time. He can look like he has it in a zoom in, but it could move a second later. I think it was a no catch.

Here's the point where he stopped bobbling the ball:

And the ball is allowed to move now in a player's control. So it's easily a catch.

My guess is is wasn't a catch since they ruled it not a catch on the field.

You zoom in, slow it down and see if the ball moves... Not that hard.

Fantasy aside, consider that the call had a big impact on the outcome of the game and its hard to justify not getting the best possible look.

After watching that game, I got the feeling Jones could have caught 600 yards worth of passes and still not have gotten into the endzone.

Thats the thing. The new rules make it clearly a catch too. Other than the fact he simply did catch it and did have it in bounds.

Good thing the refs are full time now. Hope they can learn the new rules better.

The refs are already showing that going full time is paying off. Good call on the field on a tough play to judge. Kudos all around. Let's see if they can keep it up this coming Sunday and Monday. They threw a lot of flags but that was because the teams played like garbage. The flags were warranted.

One thing though, are they going to start putting red or yellow jersey on the QBs? Do not touch? It is getting tougher and tougher for defensive players to actually tackle the QB without the team getting punished.

That's the only thing it could have been because he made the catch.

It's true. There is no rule stating receivers are not allowed to catch the ball out of bounds. It just doesn't count is all.

If he would have stayed in bounds then it would have and should have been a catch
