The $15 million federal dollars are roughly 10% of their $148 million in annual revenue.

They spend $8 million out of $148 million on training and competitions.

Before I light my hair on fire over the federal cut I would like to know how much of that other $140 million spent each year is actually benefitting the kids.

Hopefully this hysteria sparks some intellectual discussion about non profits proper use of funds.

Gold, silver, and bronze medals and records can only go to downs syndrome and disabled and whoever else participates. Somebody posted this week about all the people who've left this board. It's this kind of knee-jerk reaction that's completely mindless and indicative of some kind of cult of personality or just the need to be contrarian that isn't even worth discussion.

Our zumwalt class battleships can't get past the Panama canal without breaking down. But would it kill somebody to say "hey, maybe 18 million dollars on something that actually does what it set out to do isnt the big problem right now."

"This is a dumb move. They had all the momentum after the meuller release. Why shoot themselves in the foot over something as minor as this?" And why the f*** proposed a 15% executive pay increase at the same time?

You can't nickle and dime the Special Olympics without looking like a jerk.... and all you're saving is $18M which is a half a drop in the bucket. When you have 400M people in the country, that's expecting everyone to cough up 4 cents each and you look like Scrooge taking money back from smiling, happy down syndrome and disabled kids.

The real money to balance the budget is in entitlement reform. You still have to put up with getting accused of being Scrooge, but at least you can make a real fokcing dent in to the tune of $hundreds of billions rather than $18 million.

I point out that the $15 million cut is only 10% of their budget, and they only spend $8 million out of $148 million on actual sports training and competitions. Last year they couldn't afford to have competitions in Oregon because they were broke, mismanaged their funds.

Jerry points out that Special Olympics is not a government agency, they receive most of their revenue (if you check the PDF in my first post, $100+ million) from private donations.

You have not addressed either of those comments, just more rambling about off topic and Orange Man Bad.

I think it was correct to cancel the funding, Special Olympics gets nearly 7x what the federal government was giving them from private donors. They do not NEED federal dollars to operate. They also do not use the money they have efficiently, only around 8% goes towards training and competitions.

The override was not necessary in my opinion, but the media for WHATEVER reason decided this was some huge issue that deserved wall to wall coverage. My guess is they are looking for anything to distract people from the fact that Mueller slapped his cack across their face and said no collusion.

I don't really care if Trump goes against DeVos and spends a paltry $15 million to shut up the hysterical sheep.

This is a non-issue that nobody really gives a fock about.

You do realize the DoD is a government agency and the Special Olympics is a non-government entity?
