I've always thought of him as an average QB; funny that his regular season record is exactly average.

One big play in each SB otherwise won by their defense.

His fans argue he is 7th in passing yards all time, but that is more about the era.  He is tied for 86th all time in yards per attempt and 45th in passer rating.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_rating_career.htm

Yeah, he's only getting in because he played in NY.  Andy Dalton is Eli without defenses to win him rings.  Flacco is no different.  Neither of them will get in... nor should they.

2011-26th ranked defense. Quiet.

not a bad career for the 3rd best QB of the 2004 class

kinda strange to see two of them go out on the same day

2nd best. Stop with the Rivers nonsense.

Guess that means that Nick Foles is only an average career away from being a Hall of Famer then.

Dan Marino, Jim Kelly and Warren Moon are all in the HOF. Eli should be there. 56,000 passing yards 300+ TD passes and two SB rings. People saying he shouldn’t be in there are retarded.

Yards mean nothing he’s never lead the league in any statistical category other than interceptions which he is no 1 active all time. 56000 yards in 15 years is under 4 k a year. He’s Vinny testeverde

hes never been one of the 5 best qb in the league in any season

i personally have stricter criteria than most

If Testeverde won two SB’s against Joe Montana (the goat of his time) he would be in the HOF. Guaranteed.

Eli in the HoF is easy $$.

He has the numbers and multiple rings. Everybody arguing otherwise is wasting their breath. You may not like it but, that's the way it is.

Probably better to accept it now. You can automatically discount anybody saying he made one play in the playoffs, that's simply dumb dumb talk.

Im not opposed to him being in necessarily.

But what is this numbers talk?

Andy Dalton will be higher on all time statistical  categories than many HOF QBs.

Eli didnt have good stats.  He had had longevity and no injuries.  Which counts on its nmown merit.  But like has been said he hardly ever finished real high in TDs Yard %.  His stats per season...per game are very average for his era.

Top 10 ever in yards and TD's. Like I said, this stuff is pretty simple. All-time numbers and 2 rings, I didn't make the rules but, he's easily HoF. Easily.

I love the Rivers comparisons. He spent his prime playing with Ladanian and Gates. 2 of the all time greats at their posistions. Nothing to show for it. Eli had Plaxico and Victor Cruz.

Look HT is a tremendous doosh but he’s right in this case. The Giants won 2 Super Bowls thanks to all time great plays by manning. One (to Mario Manningham) was an absolutely perfect throw at a critical time. The other was a g0ddamn miracle of a play (helmet catch), which is what the greats pull out when needed. You just can’t question that. Sure he had some down years and yes he stunk at the end of his career (as does nearly every QB), but he won two freaking titles on wildcard teams and that’s really something.

So yeah, HT may be a flaming loser and an embarrassment to his own mother, but in this one instance he happens to be correct and you guys should respect that.

So the helmet catch guy should be in the HOF. Fine. Manning never cracked the top 6 QBs of his peers in any year he played in the league.

Yes you can.  A stopped clock is right twice per day.  You can't attribute greatness, let alone HOF greatness, to a few plays.  Heck, the helmet catch was nothing great by Manning, it was a wing and a prayer.  So basically one play and a career of average stats gets you in the HOF?

You’re right — let’s just agree HT is a pathetic creep and leave it at that

So let's compare with say... Kurt Warner, who was controversial somewhat in getting in.  Didn't have the stats, only played 11 years.  Played on 3 teams -- Rams kicked him to the curb for Bradford, Giants for Eli, Cards signed him to back up Leinart.  Yet he excelled everywhere, winning a SB with the Rams and taking the Cards to one.  The Cards.  That year he beat Aaron Rodgers in a playoff game where he had more TDs than incompletions.  No helmet catches tho...

The Rams were the Greatest Show on Turf with Warner at the helm.  Were the Giants ever the Greatest Show on Jimmy Hoffa's carcass?

Did anyone ever target Eli Manning in a FF draft as anything other than a serviceable mid-late pick while you stocked up on position players?

:dunno:

I judge qbs for the hall of fame based on whether in 30 years, if I'm in the hof with my hypothetical grandson, would I say he's one of the best of all time.

Eli was never close to the best even among his contemporaries, let alone all time. Hell, he isn't even best at his family Thanksgiving dinner table, and might not be second best.

So we're I a voter, I vote no. He had two great SB runs, and a very respectable career. Tip my hat and all that. But he doesn't deserve enshrinement. And if he had the exact same career in almost any other city, he wouldn't get it. But he will, because new Yorkers love to smell their own farts.

The 2011 Giants were the 32nd ranked running team and the 26th ranked defense. But yeah, Eli only made one play. Damn skids, I count on you as a man of science, not part of the biased ignorant mob.

I agree that he’s in the hall but Eli’s career passing yards is inflated by the era he played in. 7 of the Top 20 in alltime passing yards are currently playing. Matt Ryan is 11th alltime and will probably end up Top 5-6. Kerry Collins has more career yards than Montana and Unitas. Totally meaningless stat today.

It's pretty stunning how poorly people remember the helmet catch play. You guys should rewatch that one, what Eli had to do to simply get the throw off was pretty incredible. In that spot, with what was on the line, phenomenal.

And people think that was the only big play Eli made on that drive. They had a third and 11 after that catch.  Eli hot Dteve Snith with a dart on the right sideline for a first down.

Reminds of how people claim the tuck rule call gave the Patriots the win in that raiders game.

Um no.. it didnt

Hell of a drive. Hell of a game. Hell of a playoff run.

A real shining moment in an otherwise good, but not outstanding, career.

By the "Eli" standard, he's ahead of schedule.  Has a better winning %, better TD/Int ratio, better passer rating.  Really, the ONLY thing Eli has over Foles is the counting stats... which are easy to obtain if he stays healthy.  It's not hard to be an average QB and start for 10+ years.  Eli, Flacco, and Dalton have proven that.
