There was an earlier phone call in April between trump and the Ukrainian President. White House was supposedly going to release a “transcript” of that call as well but so far as I know it hasn’t happened yet

They are concerned about lack of leaks, you say.  Maybe it's because all their leakers have been exposed by the Mueller investigation and this hail mary of an inquiry.  A blessing in disguise?

There have been a sh!t ton of leakers exposed. 'The leaks are real; the news is fake'.

It's possible that these phone calls were bait as well. The Dems took the bait, then gather speed towards impeachment inquiry thinking they've got him. Once the Dems committed to it, only then do we begin to see all the dirt about the State Dept in Ukraine and the river of dirty money starts coming out. Trump knows the Dems have one shot at impeachment and he made them use their shot on a Snipe hunt.  Brilliant.
