NYC buses homeless to other states without notification

Recommended Posts

Liberal Cities pawning off their issues due to failed policies to other states.  🤬

You just know L.A. and San Francisco are next.  Not cool De Blasio.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Bracing for a city showdown, Fayetteville is looking to take on New York City after a handful of homeless families were reportedly illegally bused from the Big Apple to the Sandhills.

An investigative report from the NY Post found that it's part of an assistance program in New York but Fayetteville's mayor says he had no idea it was happening.

"There were a number of cities in the country that New York was sending their homeless to and we were one of them," said Mayor Mitch Colvin. "In fact, I think we were the largest recipient in North Carolina and this was troubling."

Mayor Colvin says he found out about it when a reporter from the New York Post contacted him earlier this month for comment on the estimated six families that were reportedly bused to North Carolina as a result of the SOTA program or Special One Time Assistance Plan.

"I really didn't have a vast understanding but I understand the concept. That they were taking their problems related to the homeless that they're struggling with and moving them to other communities and I think that's completely unfair," said Colvin.

ABC11 researched the program and found that it offers a year worth of rent to move to other cities in New York, out of state or even as far as Puerto Rico.

For Fayetteville, the problem then becomes affordable housing, the availability of it and whether the resources available there are enough to take on a growing homeless population. Even with the Tiny Home project and Homeless Day Center, Mayor Colvin worries that the long term impact of busing people there could put a strain on resources.

"We're struggling now to keep up with our own homeless population and putting the amenities and resources in place to deal with that and we certainly can't take anyone else's issues," said Colvin.

Neither can the citizens, Colvin said.

"I think it's a big ask to ask these tax payers to use their tax dollars to take care of other people's homeless population," he said.

Buried in secrecy are the safety concerns, Colvin says he has no clue who's being dropped off.

"You very well may import people with sex offenses, criminal backgrounds and all of that," said Colvin.

Mayor Colvin has a message. He joins the tune of dozens of elected officials across the country asking Mayor De Blasio to stop the busing.

Wish Seattle would do this, as far as shipping homeless out of town. Not giving the receiving community a heads up is total bullsh1t though.

Oh yea. I had heard about this but I thought Fayetteville was willingly taking them in. Had no clue the mayor didn’t even know. Seems like something NY would do. Place is filled with sh1tty people who’s only solution to problems is to let others take care of it

It's still better than bussing the homeless.  😬

Good for new York. You don't have a right to live on the street. If you can't afford to live in Manhattan or San Fran, gtfo to the sticks where you can afford to live.

Fock that.   NYC should be taking care of it's own and not putting the burden anywhere else.  They created their homeless problem and it's on them.

The homeless problems in NY were under control until liberal DeBlasio got in office. Rudy had us addressing the issue effectively.

Maybe kick them out into the woods. Not in another focking city secretly, pawning your problem off to other states

I'm sure the nice folks that have property out in the sticks will be less "nice" about having them around than the puzzy city dwellers.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

These recipient cities should start busing their homeless to NYC.

I ince asked one of the homeless regulars I had to deal with why he doesn't move to a warmer climate down south. He told me NY is where the money is.

There really shouldn’t do this without notification. But then again, won’t they figure it out when they get on the bus? :dunno:

Aren't those just the buses that go to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun casinos?

Boom!  Good on NJ, all the states should join in the lawsuit.

Officials in Newark are suing New York City and Mayor Bill de Blasio in an attempt to shut down a program that relocates homeless families from the Big Apple to New Jersey.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in New Jersey federal court, accuses the City of shipping its most vulnerable residents across the Hudson River — and then dumping them in squalid and inhumane conditions.

I wish MA would do that with junkies.

Connecticut seems perfect.

It's an interesting thought.  NYC just pays the rent, they aren't the landlords.  And if they are paying for you in NY, then they should be able to pay for you anywhere.  Am I missing something? :dunno:

Rent is much cheaper if you llive somewhere else. NYC cannot afford their own rent control housing. Priceless,

I was raking / blowing all the leaves in my yard this afternoon.  Instead of making a pile of them on the curb for the city to pick up, I just raked and blew them all into my neighbors yard.  It was much easier on ME and he wasn't home either.  His problem now!@#!

Imagine Newark NJ as being the better option in your life. Maybe it's time to get off the dole.
