Not a lesser known horror film but since this is where all the horror stuff ended up- I’m finally watching The Black Phone right now. So far, so good.

Haven’t seen the movie but the book of short stories it was from, 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill, was terrific.

Figures, that’s the only one I haven’t read.

Worth reading, a few of the stories are bangers.

I’ll put it on my list, thank you!

Black Phone was excellent. I wasn’t sure how Ethan Hawk would do as the bad guy but he nailed it.

Bolded for the reading impared.

I had it down as HoU starting 10/2, bumbed it wasn't there last night, did it push to 10/12 or did I just write it down wrong?

As a huge EAP guy, I’ll watch this but I’m really concerned about how Netflix will handle it.  Based on the trailer, it looks like they’ve basically just taken the title and made a completely different story of it.

That’s what the director did with Haunting of Hill House, so you’re probably spot on. I wouldn’t expect a faithful adaptation.

The 2nd one was based off of The Turning of the Screw. I personally like how he’s added to them. Most of these stories have been overdone to death, anyway.

@IGotWorms

Do you think the thread title should be changed since it just turned into a discussion of all horror films?

Just a friendly suggestion...  You can do what you want since it your thread...

Gracias...

Watching The Visit right now.

Pretty good.

What did you think overall?   I watched it last night, and hated the kids and part of the ending, but stil thought it was decently made and creepy.

I felt about the same.  C+ I’d say.  More creepy than scary.

Smile is a good one if you haven’t seen it.

A couple dumb, silly, gory ones I love are on Peacock if any of you have that - Dead Snow 2 and Deathgasm.

Yesterday I watched Kill List, and that was pretty weird and gnarly.

Saw the Nun 2 this weekend pretty good. Sort of predictable, I guess to some people. But I didn't catch on until almost the end, hahaha.

If you go, stay after- there's a little teaser just a few minutes into the credits.

Does one need to see “The Nun” first before the second one to get the story?

Dunno, but The Nun is pretty boring. I’d rank it towards the bottom of the franchise.

Talk to me.

Was good, we liked it.  Australian accent which was mildly annoying but good flick, some good creepy scenes and uncomfortable violence/gore.

I watched this last night. It was better than average but never really scary and I had some major problems with the main character. 7/10. It was good but if this is the best horror movie of the year it’s a bad year for horror.

I didn’t hate it. Not his best work, but definitely not his worst. I’m conflicted on whether I prefer this ending to the one in the book.

Wife and I watched it a little while ago.  Not bad.  Funny seeing Ron Weasley playing a bigot from Bahhhhston.

How did book end?

The little girl gets shot and killed when Lenny and Andrew wrestle for the gun. It doesn’t count as a sacrifice so they still have to choose. They refuse, and the ending is a lot more ambiguous as to whether or not there was really an apocalypse.

I like that ending better.  Appreciate movies that don't always have a "happy" ending.

Edit: she was annoying anyways

I kind of appreciated the film version wasn’t as bleak. While the book version is probably more realistic- it’s nice to think that maybe someone out there thinks that humanity is worth saving.

Just got done watching toxic avenger on Shudder!!!  Classic!

They also have a series on there called in search of darkness (3 parts) that goes over all of the '80s horror movies. It's actually quite good.

In Search of Darkness was so much fun. I could watch hours of it at a time.

Fall of the House of Usher debuts on Netflix tonight! I know what I’m binge watching this weekend.

@OldMaid so I absolutely loved Twin Peaks S1. I’m now into S2 and it’s seriously declined in quality once they resolved the whole Laura Palmer / Bob scenario. It hasn’t had a plot for the last 10 episodes. Should’ve been a 10-12 episode miniseries.

I think they're remaking the Toxic Avenger.  Did yo watch the original or the new one?

I would have preferred the book version.  The movie started out good but fizzled out.

Finished up Ma.  Slow burn, kind of unusual.

Worth watching.

We watched "No One will Save You" kind of meh. No real dialog in the entire movie. Aliens, etc. I had to google the ending because it felt like one of those, 'there's more meaning here' and there was. Not terrible, but just interesting.

"The Call." A few years old, and we picked it on a whim. Found out that one of my FAVORITE horror queens is in it, Lin Shaye (Insidious) as well asTobin Bell (?) who plays Jigsaw. Not bad, some gore. Interesting premise to what's going on takes a bit to get going. Predictable in a couple of spots.

That’s too bad - looked interesting.
