My BIL had an intruder try to break in a while back.  He and his wife were not home.  The intruder tried the door, a few windows, and then was trying to climb the fence to the back yard.  The intruder learned a hard lesson about that particular community.  Denver required their police officers and all city employees to live within the city limits.  That community was primarily cops, and fire fighters.  A few of his neighbors saw what was going on and walked on over and arrested the intruder.  The prosecutor and eventually the judge dealt with him firmly.

When it comes to my safety I am not going to be an idealist. I'm going to be a realist. I have lived in enough rough neighborhoods in my youth to be smarter than listen to the bullshlt you push on the world around you.

It's the same thing as someone walking around and saying "it's a free country and I have every right to be here just as much as anyone else does". Sure. Feel that way, but when you get your ass kicked, get raped, or killed, because the people in the neighborhood you are in do things like that to other people, don't come crying to me about it. 

Ideally you could wish for heads coming up 80% of the time on a coin flip, but stats say otherwise. I'm going with the firm hard stats on the picture as a whole.

And to think, if we didn't have knives/cutting instruments, those 1000+ people would be living healthy happy prosperous lives today.

I know I always have a problem with my pocket knives getting out of their drawers and trying to kill us while we sleep. I scold them and they are initially apologetic, but they always just keep trying to kill everyone in the neighborhood.
