Coolest Thing You’ve Ever Seen In The Sky

Recommended Posts

Tripping one night with my bus, half of us are facing west, other half are pointing east, Out of nowhere a meteor flashed across the sky.  It raced across the sky low. Imagine seeing a giant purple golf ball with sparklers cruising across the sky. Lasted all of five seconds. And  it wasn’t fireworks in February.

Haven’t seen it yet, but when I see Jesus on that horse returning that will be it.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

The sun is pretty cool.  Not literally.  It's actually really hot, but it also enables all life on earth the exist and thrive, so I think that's pretty cool.

In the 90's, during a deployment in the middle east, I was  bivouacked out in the middle of the desert. There was one night that was particularly clear and I could see the entire milky way, it was a spiritual experience.

Two memories come to mind:

When I was very little we picked up my Dad at the airport. Was about a 60 minute drive home at night. I saw a bright light appear and then it spiderwebbed out across the sky. Filled up maybe 10% of the horizon sky but was enough for us and other cars to pull over on the highway. The guy on the radio said he was getting calls about it, made some joke about aliens. The next day they said it was a satellite that lost orbit and was skipping across the atmosphere.

The other, also with my Dad, backpacking in the North Cascades in an area called The Enchantments. It’s in a huge bowl of mountains, dotted with high alpine lakes. We were there camping during a meteor shower and it was a new moon. Every few minutes one would streak across the sky that you’d see. The one I recall though we didn’t see it as it was behind us, but it was so bright it lit up the mountains we were facing a bit. Was amazing.

The Intel Drones doing their light show thing was pretty cool. One of their corporate offices is here in my city, so we occasionally see them practicing and stuff like that.

Also, the Starlink satellites are pretty cool; all traveling in a perfect line...then suddenly gone.

Hailey's Comet. Went way out into the country, where there was almost no light pollution.
